Don't know how prevalent they were during the 90s, if at all - but I'm currently listening to stuff like Aesop Rock, Sage Francis, El-P, MF Doom, Despot.

Good stuff. MF Doom is probably my favorite out of all the ones you listed. If your bored and want to check out some good music, look up Hieroglyphics, Souls of Mischief, Deltron 3030, Murs, Dilated Peoples, Gangstarr, The Roots, Slum Village, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, GZA, Mobb Deep, Rakim, Tha Alkaholiks, DJ Quik, Kurupt, Goodie Mob, Cali Agents, Ras Kass, Jean Grae, Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, Necro, Sabac, Ill Bill, Steph Pockets, Kendrick Lamar, etc, etc, (the last half aren't from the 90s but are still good)
