Fellow Skyrimmers, I call upon you for aid!

Ok, so here's the deal. I made it my mission in my last play through to play a wealth obsessed character in the fashion of a Tolkienish Dwarf. Now, it wasn't enough to have money. All of us have had 1 million + gold in our inventory before, etc. No, this was not enough. I wanted to be able to visualize my wealth. I wanted to experience it...feel it.

So, I downloaded a mod that allowed me to smith coins into gold bars. I felt that this was a perfect solution. As my wealth increased, I would be able to see my pile of gold ingots literally growing. Well, all was going well until I hit about 8000 gold bars. Apparently at that point, the game can no longer handle the number of items in the save file.

Now, I know it's not my rig. This is evidenced by the fact that I can hit said pile of 8000 ingots with my unrelenting force show, spraying gold all over like a shower of golden glory, and my fps doesn't drop at all

(rig: 2 gtx690s in quad sli, 16 gigs of 2133 ram, ssd, i7-3970x cpu).

So, it's not a computer issue. What happens (I think) is that the game save file gets so large it can no longer load. Essentially, when I try to load into the game, it gets stuck at the loading screen forever.

Now, I have no intention of ranting or raving about the inability of the game to handle 8000+ gold bars (on top of god knows how many other individual items. Being fair to Bethesda, what I'm doing is well outside the realm of normal gameplay so no complaints on them. My question is this. I need the help to realize my dream. Is there a mod that allows me to craft expensive golden statues? Awesome! Is there a way to make gold bars worth more then 100 gold each (effectively reducing my pile of 8000 gold bars to 1600 or even lower?

Basically, I want to turn the basement of my house (hearthfire) into a giant treasure room, something that appears similar to the ridiculousness halls of gold seen in the intro to the Hobbit and I'm looking for every mod I can find that I've possibly missed to make that dream happen.

OR

If someone could help me fix the issue while allowing me to keep my piles of gold bars, that would be even better. Other symptoms: as time goes on, I'm developing this weird periodic stutter. It's not lag...game play doesn't freeze, it's just like the camera zooms in on my character for a second and then back out.

Any help, and I'll love you forever!

Interesting issue - and quite relevant for me because I'm currently playing a thief character who loves all things valuable and shiny. 'm afraid I don't know how to fix your issue - it's most likely one of the limits beth put in. Check your save file size - it's normal for it to be larger the higher level you are, but excessively large saves (e.g. 25mb+) usually indicate save game bloat. I once had a character at level 20 with a save file 55mb large u.u that was one glitchy save.

Have you considered jewellery? There's a gorgeous jewellery mod on the hot files at the moment - you could drop shiny trinkets everywhere. Also snoop around for statues of dibella, they're quite shiny. Also if you join the Thieves Guild and do some of the jobs you'll get jewelled goblets, candlesticks etc. They go straight to those shelves behind the cistern desk, but you're quite capable of taking them.

Once my modding skills improve, I'll be sure to create lots of shiny treasure :) I also love the idea of a room full of gold and coins and jewels, and to watch it all go flying, shining in the candlelight as it falls...ah, lovely.

Well, I've improved my own modding skills somewhat. Considering I had zero experience doing anything "programmish" I must say I'm proud of myself. I've gotten it to where I can make the ingots worth more. At the moment, I've done the following:

10 gold ore --> 1 gold ingot

500 coins --> 1 gold ingot

1 gold ingot --> 500 coins

1 statue of dibella --> 4 gold bars

4 gold bars --> 1 statue of dibella

Of course, I went through and modded the values of the objects so as of now:

1 ore = 50 coins

1 bar = 500 coins

1 statue = 2000 coins

The main problem I've having at this point is that I do not know how to create the object maps (is that even the right word?) to open in Nifscope, and I lack the ability to pack a mod into a bsa, esp, or esm (nor do I even know the real difference between those, or which I should be making. At this point though, I've decided that skyrim is moddable enough, the resources are out there, and the community is friendly enough that I will just create my own damned mod and be done with searching. So, I will be moving this conversation over into a more appropriate forum. Anyone interested in helping me make this mod (whether it be helping doing the actual back-end work, or just coming up with ideas) please feel free to contact me via message or in this thread.

Just for clarification: The purpose of the mod I am creating is to create beautiful and dynamic ways to display and save your wealth in the physical environment of the game, rather than in your inventory.

Thanks everyone who made suggestions!

@Ginger

Good ideas, but I lack 3d modeling experience (of any kind). Are these assets pre-existing in the game? If so, I can handle a dupe-and-reskin, but if I'm going to be making assets from the ground up I'd need the help of someone with those skills.

Well, I have to say that currently I too lack the capability of 3D modding. Just yesterday I introduced myself to the world of retexturing, and had to consult Nexus for help on resolving this weird issue that turned out to be lack of alpha channels. I am planning on learning the whole shebang though, and I learn quite quickly, so I'll contact you if I get to that point. My main aim is to be a Khajiit modder, I have so many ideas, but I also have a great passion for the valuable and shiny, so I'd certainly like to help with making some gorgeous glittery things.

Oh also: there's a mod on the workshop called Diamond Smithing which allows you to make weapons and armour out of jewels and gold. The armour in particular looks very shiny. I never downloaded it myself because gold is a very soft metal and it didn't make sense to me that it could stand any kind of damage - but for the purposes of flaunting your wealth, well. Maybe you could go check it out? :)
