Messed up sounds

Problem: My sounds when I walk in heavy armor sound as if I'm walking around in slippers. They're very quiet, and I don't hear the CRUNCH CRUNCH BOOM BOOM BOOM IM A BADASS noise while walking. Sometimes, when swinging a sword, my sounds are cut short. Same with when my sword strikes a surface. The sound cuts off in the middle.

My theory: It's my modded sword and armor, but I doubt this

My PC specs:

Operating System: Windows XP SP2, modded with a Direct X 10 emulator (This problem happened before I got the DX10 emu)

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.4GHZ

Memory: OCZ 2046 MB DDR2 800MHz

Motherboard: NFORCE 680i LT SLI

Graphics Card:: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260

Soundcard: RealTek HD Audio

Monitor Size: 20"

I run the game at full high everything with HDR lighting, and 1680x1050 res.

My mods:

Adonnay's Classical Weaponry ( I use the Kinslayer sword, one handed version)

AliveWaters

Argent Iron Armor

Book Jackets Oblivion

CM Better Wine

Cosmetic Compilation (No NPC changes)

All of the official mods and expansions

Exnem Rune Skulls

ImpeREAL city Unique Districts

Natural Environments (All of the plugins for it)

Open Cities Full

Rosenthorn Hall Expanded

Red Sonia companion

Stock Armor/Clothing for Exnems

VA Better Gold

Qarl's Texture Pack 3

Darker Crusader Armor (This just alters the texture of the Divine Crusader armor, which is what I wear all the time)

----

As you can see, I know NOTHING about Oblivion/mods from a technical standpoint. Also, I already posted this in the mod troubleshooting area, but I figure that was the wrong place. This may be a problem with Oblivion itself. I've tried soooo many different things to fix it, but nothing seems to work.

Is this a common issue?

Also, if this has already been posted at one point, point me in the right direction. I can be incredibly absent minded at times.

armor and /or weapons mods will not change your sound unless a audio file was included...not likely. Try defraging and then a hard drive clean. then use this to set your load order

General Load-Order Guidelines

Here are the guidelines that I adhere to, personally.

~ Unofficial Oblivon Patch should always be first on the list. The fixes are great, but most aren't essential, so if a mod overwrites them its not a big deal, and the fixes have the potential for screwing up other mods if loaded later.

~ Offical Content (DLC's) should be loaded last, until you complete all quests associated with them (that includes buying all furniture for the houses and whatnot). Once they're complete, they can be safely moved up in the list. This is especially important for Knights of the Nine, which will have some fairly major problems unless loaded last (unless you get the UOP for KotN)

~ Major overhaul mods (OOO, Frans, MMM) should be loaded near the end. That gives you the most complete experience with any of those particular mods. It also lets you carefully choose which other mods to load afterwards... only move mods that you know will conflict and that you want the changes from. For example, I have Improved Soul Gems below OOO because I know that OOO changes the icons of some of the SG's, and ISG needs to be below to show through.

Some people will recommend putting larger mods first, but personally I disagree. There are a number of mods out there that make minor tweaks, and loading after a large mod will end up completely overwriting a chunk from one of the bigger mods because of the way conflicts work in Oblivion (even one minor change will take precedence over the entire record... for example, simply tweaking the speed of a weapon can cause every stat of that weapon to be retained to vanilla levels if loaded later).

So basically, it stacks up like this...

Oblivion.esm

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

<Minor Mods / DLC's (Post-Completion)>

<Major Overhaul Mod/Mods>

<Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence>

<DLC's (Pre-Completion)>

Expanded Load-Order Guidelines

by dev_akm

I would extend this to include:

Oblivion.esm

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

<Weather/Environment/Sound Mods>

<Minor Mods/New Items/Houses/DLC's (Post-Completion)>

<Major Overhaul Mods>

<Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence>

<DLC's (Pre-Completion)>

<Quests>

<Compatibility Patches/UOMP/Merged Leveled Lists>

And a special-case warning for Knights.esp (Knights of the Nine) -- you may not be able to move it earlier than some other mods (some people have had problems after moving it before OOO, for example).

That's basically the structure I use and I have 140+ mods working well together.

Another way of describing this (posted by DMan77):

....

Oblivion

unoffical patch

Deeper realism mods that add sights and sounds

added content like weapons/items

gameplay changes, like 'must eat and sleep'

The OOO type

the 'new begining' type mod..

I don't think that's the issue, but thanks for the reply.

Turns out that I get the same problem without any mods. My new theory is that when I get low FPS at some points, my sounds get all jumbled. Seems to me like a normal Oblivion error. I just wish I knew why it would do that. I also wish I knew why I was getting lower than 20 FPS on Oblivion. It just seems weird to me, since I can get 30 to 40 FPS on Crysis, very high settings.

Beth games sure are system hogs. I might try to find some mods that limit the sounds around me. That might solve the issue. I heard too many sounds can hog the system resources just as much as uber graphics.
