Random CTD's and saves won't load

I found culprit in my case: it's Expanded Diversity optional for Skyrim Flora Overhaul. Disabling it made CTD to go away.

@Texximus

I looked at your load order and all I can say is that your save is beyond the hope. You really need to cut out number of mods running and start new game. That's the only option.

Just post your new load order before starting anew.

I've resigned to that fact... it's just finding which ones. Before I load any new mod I always check compatibility in description but thats not always accurate I know. I wish I knew which mods were the problem. I have a lot of added, weaps, textures, utilities, beatuification etc mods. And I don't have enough knowledge to determine how to figure that out.

Is that the 32 bit or the 64 bit version?

64bit I've just started a new game and am about to head to Riverwood.... <shudders>

Well got sidetracked into Oakwood and crashed after a few minutes in the Inn. I love this game so much and have already beaten it in Vanilla.. now I just want a pretty version so to speak along with the DLC's. Is that so much to ask?

Well besides a few CTD's and having to back track a couple saves now & then its' running better overall. The CTD's don't happen anywhere near as much as they did before. And I read somwhere that if you save a game then quit right away that can create a corrupt save file.

Man so much information overload and yeah still not completely resolved and some of the suggestions you awesome folks have made are WAY over my head. Guess I can just keep "plugin" away... see what I did there hehe

I've never heard this one (and I do it all the time). Are you sure you didn't mistake it with something like 'don't keep saving over the same save game slot'? Because that will contribute to corrupt saves.

If the situation has not really improved that much, and you feel the CTDs are still too frequent for your taste, the last thing that can be explored is a complete reinstall of the game and (a more modest number of) mods. If you do this, I recommend you use a mod manger like the 'Mod Organizer', which won't install mods directly into the game data folder (so if, by chance, you ever need to do another 'full reinstall', you actually won't need to 'reinstall' the game because there will be no loose files in the game data folder, if you installed all your mods via the MO). You can list the mods you'd like to 'add back' to the new installation, and I am sure many users will drop by to let you know their own experiences with such mods. Aside from that, I can't think of anything else to try.

Well this is overwhelming. I'm not getting CTD's per se but they may as well be... the game just locks up not responding... there's be several times since the cleaning that's I've had to go back a few saves when loading. I'm thinking the full install is what I need. I've never heard of or used Mod Manager... just NMM, Wyre, BOSS. If anyone can take a look at my mod list and let me know if there's know crap with it then I know what to exclude.

Here's the list

I would get rid of 'Immersive Patrols' and all of its optional plugins. It's a great concept but any mod that adds more spawns and spawn points to the worldspace will make the worldspace inherently less stable. Most of the time, it's not the fault of the mods, just a limitation of the game engine. It's why vanilla Skyrim has the population of a post-apocalyptic world. If you run all of IP's plugins along with the ERSO plugins that add even more spawns in the worldspace, it's bound to create trouble. A mod like 'Interesting NPCs' is quite different from IP, and would be fine, because it adds unique NPCs, sparsely, and mostly in city spaces and interior cells, as to minimize any performance or stability impact.

You might also consider using something like 'Texture Optimizer' to compress the AV packages you want to use, and be selective about which AV packages you use. When I was collecting AV packages, one of the things I noticed was that not all AV packages were of equal quality. 4K textures for AV is just insane. Imagine multiple spawns of the same creature type using different 4K textures--that's just unnecessarily punishing the GPU. In fact, I suggest using TO to compress all AV textures to 1K or less (actually, I should do that myself, as I am fairly certain I've downloaded a couple of 'new' AV textures that were 2K). An efficient way to do this is to extract your AV packages into a 'work folder', use TO to compress them, then repackage those textures so you can install them using NMM or MO (when you reinstall).

If you are using ENB, I'd recommend getting rid of it or switching to a more 'performance oriented' ENB.

You'll have to start a new game, of course. There isn't any point to reinstalling without starting a new game. The idea is that you will have a completely 'fresh start', and hopefully, if you do everything 'right' from the beginning, including careful selection of which mods you will install, it will prevent more problems from occurring down the road.

So there's no avoiding a fresh install then... thank you for the insight on the Immersive patrols mods... I wasn't aware of the problems it can cause. Going forward... and I'm not sure how to tell.. I would like to only use mods that were created after the Creation Kit was released.

What do you think about the overhaul mods... specifically: Skyrim overhaul: Guilds and followers, Skyrim Overhaul: Enemies and Skyrim overhaul: Factions?
