Texximus
>ears down and back, eyes wide< that. . . is a lot of mods. What size is your page file(virtual RAM)? If your processor is bottlenecking your graphics (I counted three HD tex packs, not including lighting overhauls and other graphics-intensive eye candy), I would suggest getting the IOBit GameBooster or other similar software to lighten the load on it a bit. If your GPU and video ram is the problem, then find a good streamlined card, one that will fit even with the SSDs. I know ATI doesn't have the same level of graphical control as NVidia, but the cards work well anyway and also come with their own cooling systems, good overclocking interface, and massive video ram even in just the 7000 series. Check your task manager to see how much of your processor and page file are being used as a gage of how much stress you are putting on the system. If you are overfilling ram, bottlenecking either your CPU or GPU, or just overwriting textures between packs often enough that the game has trouble loading, then just drop some of the extra eye candy. >ears droop< Sorry if that doesn't help, it's all I've got. The issue here is not a hardware one at all... You hit briefly upon the real issue...but the VRAM has nothing to do with it... The drivers use the pagefile to adjust to whatever the hardware VRAM of the card is this is part of the API layer that allows a modern game to function. What occurs though is that the Windows Default is that it is on your "C" drive and that it is managed by Windows... Both not good... so go into your, Control panel/System/Advanced System Settings/Advanced tab/performance/settings/advanced tab/virtual memory/change you will find that windows has defaulted to the "C" drive... and that it is being managed by windows... this you can do a few things that solve the issue.. You have 16 GB system memory... You want a custom sized page file 8GB Min (initial) and then up to your 16GB Max. you need to set the PAGEFILE to a different drive than your O/S and when you do this it will require a re-boot. Come back to the same place after to confirm the changes in the pagefile. That should stop the the pregnant duck effect, and reduce lag as well as give the drivers more virtual memory... The game is a 32 bit application. There are review after review at HardOCP and Anandtech that show VRAM does not effect frame rates in fact the 4 GB cards are no real help other that at extreme resolution (IE Exceeding 2560 x 1600) HardOCP did it with a heavily modded skyrim as well..OK I set the pagefile from the C: drive to the SSD I have skyrim on. Texximus
Also... when I run TES5Edit it loads up with no errors. Which I suppose makes sense since I'm not CTD on startup I just can't get a save to load without Skyrim going into not responding mode.... btw... thank you for your insights... you guys rock. Texximus
ARGH!!! So frustrating lol... try to load ANY save and I watch the task manager and the Memory usage by Skyrim creep up to 2.1million k and then "not responding".... I should also note this is a NEW character, just getting out of Helgen.
ripple
I'll get the 'elephant in the room' out fo the way first: you are using way too many mods. Skyrim for PC is intended to be modded, not 'heavily modded.' To stabilize such an extensive load order would, at minimum, require the ability to interpret plugin records in TES5Edit and making custom compatibility patches (automated dynamically generated patches would be insufficient). As a last resort, you might consider trimming that load order and starting a new game (so you don't need to deal with problems generated by orphan script data left in existing save games). But before that.... 1) Cleaning: download TES5Edit from the link in your BOSS log, follow the instructions on the page, and clean the plugins flagged by BOSS as containing 'dirty edits' (including the DLC and update esm's). You will need to remove identical to master entries as well as undelete/disable deleted references. 2) Maintenance: go through your BOSS log and look for any error messags, for example.. ClimatesOfTamriel-Interiors-Warm.esp ActiveIncompatible with: Realistic Lighting OverhaulThe base CoT mod is compatible with RLO, not the optional interior plugins, since they edit many of the same imagespace, cell lighting, etc. 3) back up your current game ini files, then delete them and let the game generate new ones on the next launch. The default ini settings are optimized for stability. Performance related tweaks boost performance by sacrificing game stability. I recommend not fiddling with ini tweaks (except for non-peformances related tweaks like enabling papyrus logging or increasing autosave counts) unless you have a below requirement spec and need to tweak the ini files just to sustain playable framerates. 4) Rogue mods: you have many mods not recognized by BOSS (because the BOSS database has no information on them). After you run BOSS, they go to the bottom of the load order, and override conflicting edits from the other plugins. Ideally, their load order position should be adjusted manually. The best way to determine where they should load is to check the plugins in TES5Edit, compare them with the other plugins in your load order. If they do not contain conflicting edits, you can safely load them any where in the load order above your compatibility patches (e.g. AV patch, Bashed Patch). Otherwise, you will have to decide, based on which conflicting record should win in order to optimize the stability of the load order. If all of this is going over your head a bit, then I recommend you uninstall the mods not recognized by BOSS, so you don't have to deal with the aggravation (since you have so many). 5) I am inclined to suggest that you uninstall 'Better Cities.' If a modder does not understand the kind of instability that can be introduced just by deleting default game stuff in the CK without using TES5Edit to subsequently clean those plugins, they don't really understand what they are doing. But I am also inclined to believe that the modder for 'Better Cities' is perhaps still learning and may sort out those issues at some point. But you might consider uninstalling those mods for now. But you might consider uninstalling those mods for now.Woah that's a lot. I'm not very comfortable with cleaning cuz I really don't know what I'm doing. But I can follow along with Gopher's instructions just fine. The unrecognized ones are alot but they aren't doing me any good if I can't play so I suppose I can drop them (cry). Better cities I was debating dropping anyway because in TES5Edit there are a lot of "deleted" references and I don't know if I'm just supposed to delete that whole item or what. This is cool tho cuz I'd like to learn more about this stuff so maybe I can volunteer to the BOSS team at some point. Like I said... I'm a mod addict and if I can help that community I'd love to. WolvenEdge
>ears up< All advice I have given is based entirely on the hardware itself. . . I like learning this stuff, so I will follow this thread for advice as well. If I am ever going to make any mods I want to do it right, and I am turning into a bit of a mod addict myself. Unfortunately, my poor computer has an older processer (P IV 3.0 GHtz) so my graphics card (with a lovely 700 MHtz core clock and 1 G video RAM) is pretty much running my games for me. I find that my CTD's often happen when I enter a major forest cell, but never when in a dungeon, city, or house, so I think I am overloading my poor 2 G RAM thanks to still running windows XP x86, so the page file tip will be a big help. >head tilts right< Are you having trouble loading any and every game, or does loading into a smaller area like a cave or house help? Texximus
Ooohh... this is what is scarey & I don't know what to do.... I'm looking at Dawnguard.esm in TES5Edit... which automatically loads Update.esm (which I just cleaned) & Skyrim.esm, Now there are a bunch of red background lines where Update.esm made a change from Skyrim.esm and now Dawnguard.esm changes it BACK to what was in Update.esm creating a conflict. I can only assume that this is intentional but I don't know enough yet to know what if anything I should do. Learning is fun! LOL
