new player's new mod question (problem might be at lack of understanding on install.)

hello. I tried this game through gamepass, and after 4 days of modding trial and error to get sky ui to work but not mcm, I decided I have wasted 4 days for just 40 dollars, and is currently day 4 of doing same thing on steam version of the SE.

 

---- background story that might be better skipped--------

my main goal was to make sandbox game, closing to mount and blade (despite owning bannerlord.) where I have not seen a dragon after helgan was it. Instead I have been just traveling by road, doing storm/imperial quest and fighting just about anything in the path. so my mod choices were also leaned towards adding more enemies.

 

However I skipped out on high difficulty stuff, as I usually just use godmod on flip switch to allow myself liberty of 'watch' a battle go out time to time. been huge fan of wench series mod since it had enough plot that i can get it without reading and there was fun of capturing enemy elites. (kinda large but looked like moder wants them large.) but its also because its like the only mod that is working for sure, rest I can't really tell.

 

initially getting mods to work without skse was pain, and when i switched to steam, sky ui stopped working despite having skse now, and after day of fighting, fixed it by simply editing steam text file. (symptom was skyui was always disabled.)

then spent most of the time trying to get skyfem to work, adding various mods as i found it.

managed to fix black face bug by installing more enemy mods somehow

ctd fixed when blackface got fixed

learned that mcm is slow and i just had to wait, instead of trying to change load order in vortex for hours thinking its not loading.

learned how to sorta use ssedit and got skyfem to work. fnis was easier than I though atleast. still cant change loading order.

fixed symptom of ctd whenever i enter a certain regions, by trying some skeleton fixes that worked somehow.

then wrestled alot to get deadly mutilation to work, just to give up.

got skyfem to work finally after hours of trying to understand its installation guide. i somehow got tes5 without exe was the biggest problem.

current issues-

wenches do not show up among bandits or guards (deadly wench)

wenches do not show up in other mobs, nor are there reptile mobs (EVW)

bald people (started to occur after fixing black face by installing all those EVW stuff other than the BSA i had earlier.)

invisible clothes (99% its bikini armors.)

frequent statis from improper dialogue endings? npc doesn't let me go for a long time before next dialogue and such.

followers constantly 'unfollowing' me and go rogue. seemed like rescuing and capturing enemies fill up follower spot and kicks out oldest members to make room.

not being able to test the game properly. has only been around two capitol, thieftown, whiterun, and markarth.

too many mods. though its me assuming that I have too much. I am kind of expecting most answers to be to reduce mods I have installed, order number hitting 114 right now.

what is the level tier was it? that apparently could prevent some mods to work because they aren't configured for it?

 

tl:dr

1. why do i need body slider? how come its not included in the mod pack? is it because mod makers can't tell what kind of fetish a user may have?

2. despite saying female npc all share body... my body seems different, is there no way to just update generic base body?

3. am i making mistake by using vortex?

4. should i really be messing with some text heavy gadgets like sseedit and skse when I am just a user?

5. whats a good tip on these? does disabling mod break the mods or just the save file? if just the save file, should I test it by turning off most recent mods one by one until game seems functional again?

6. is there a mod pack I can just grab and be done with by any chance? :D

7. how to copy paste whole mod list with correct title and load order?

lastly a silly question. I've seen lots of meme about dovakhin with headphones craft m16 and shoot a dragon and stuff, but i do not see any mods like that at nexus I think, atleast for se. automated weaponry sounds tempting, but definently want to try line infantry stuff if theres mods to go with the rifle one.

CBBE has a Body Slider tool in the CBBE archive, so read the readme of how to use the Body Slider

FNIS also have a tool that must be launched every time you either install or deactivate or uninstall a mod before launching SSE

Yes, you definitely need to use TESxEdit, LOOT, Wrye Bash especially the bashed patch in Wrye Bash in order to get a modded SSE stable

As for using Vortex I cannot comment that since I don't use it myself, but if you want to know more about Vortex then ask here

It's not recommended to remove mods in SSE without having a working backup save (of course without the mod you wanna test) just to go back to in case things goes wrong

dunno whats going on, but after few hours of cooling down and killing bunch of patrols, wenches started to show up as officer-likes. i guess mod doesn't have priority so it requires vanilas to die off a bit first? the respawning AI now has similar body too.

  1. Bodyslide is used to define the basic body a player is using and for fitting clothing and armor (and other wearable items to that body), escpailly if one is using a femlae player. Racemenu is for fine tuning the body built in bodyslide (In my opinion) or for finetuning a face (I do use racemenu to fine tune my male's face, since the vanilla one is even more butt ugly than what he looks like :wink: ), (edit: or for swapping out using a qualified racemenu preset). While not necessarily a must for male players, it's (edit: Bodyslide that is) pretty much a requirement for most people using female characters unless you're ok with using the vanilla UNP body and the clothing/armor choices available for it. TBH I don't use it for my male player game vector. I *do* use it for my female player vector.

     

    Oh, and the "outfit studio" portion is useful to many for tweaking unruly armors and or for replacing the reference body used in an armor, and for qualified folk even for adding bounce and jiggle to armors that don't natively have it. TBH, I'm not one who fiddles much with Outfit studio, but for completeness that's my understanding of why it's there.

  2. Some mods provide a mechanism that makes other female bodies (ie any other female NPC who uses your body assets) slightly different, but once built (unless you opt for the unique player body mod and work it requires to make it work) all the female NPCs (with a few exceptions caused by other mods like Bijin wives and other bulk replacers for named characters, or for custom followers that come with their own body spec and texture) will share your base body and texture (as I noted, there may be slight changes in breast size, height, weight, other racemenu slider adjustments, etc, but afaik that's from additional mods designed to introduce variation) Their faces will remain unique per however they were created. They do not share your face.

     

    Note: since I use the vanilla male for that vector, I don't know if the same applies to males when they're built in bodyslide. ymmv.

  3. I've been using Vortex since day 1 (~2-1/2 years ago). It's made life very easy (for instance, LOOT and FNIS are basically handled in the background, quietly and accurately). And tbh, I see far more fundamental problems posted by MO2 users than by Vortex users. But it's not for everyone. Some people are adverse for one reason or another. Meh. whatever, different strokes.

  4. SSEdit is a nice desktop utility to have on hand if you want to make some change that can't be made using a mod. (as are Fallrim Tools, NifSkope, and several others). SKSE64, on the other hand, is a fundamental underpinning for a huge number of mods. Don't want it? Don't download any mod needing it. Simple as that. I will say this. your loss. Don't come whining (figuratively, not sniping at you) when you can't use <insert mod name> because it requires SKSE64. It expands that abilities of the game beyond the original, limited spec. (just as do things like Address Library, NetScript Framework, and several other underpinning resources often called out as dependencies).

  5. I haven't had a lot of issues from temporarily *disabling* a mod or plugin (as long as no other changes are made to the load like installing some new mod or uninstalling some other mod), but uninstalling can have some serious ramifications depending on which mod is uninstalled. However, I can't say authoritatively that it's a "good idea" so I'd be cautious when doing so.

  6. I don't trust mod packs. I'm old fashioned. And moreover, I don't like anyone else dictating what I run. My load is, afaik unique (although statistically speaking, I suppose it's possible that someone else out there has coincidentally chosen exactly the same mods I have for my game)

  7. posting a Mod list? idk. That's a total PITA with Vortex, since they don't offer a text file with the mods (afaik), you'd have to do snapshots of your mods tab). One area they could improve imo. However, a load list (ie your installed plugins)...that's easy

     

    a) visit /(your name)/AppData/Local/Skyrim Special Edition/

    b) open loadorder.txt

    c) right click inside the text, choose select all

    d) choose copy from the notepad menu

    e) in the Nexus txt editor, click on the green and white striped icon just left of the FONT box (right of the eraser icon) and scroll down to "spoiler"

    f) paste your loadorder into the provided content area.

I am under impression that the EVW is to be loaded later than wenches and such, but vortex forces it to load ahead, even when group wise it should be 3 groups after wenches. curious to see if this is the cause of problem, but can't debug it in my knowledge.

If Vortex automatically loads a given mod 's plugin before you want it loaded or before some mod advises to load it (it happens on occasion) then fix it using the load order rules. Any locked rule can be unlocked. that's what the lock icon on the far right side of the mode rules display is for. (In vortex anyway: mods tab >> top bar menu "Manage Rules"... in MO2 I have no idea)

also found that baldness and invisible body is from immersive armor mod. heavy faction armor isnt working. also I grabbed a couple body presets and racemenu preset, but even when i load the presets in the game, i seem to be very different from what mod advert showed. my bodyslide only shows mod armors, no bodies.

seems i dumped all the files in to cbbp instead of bodyslider. not sure why using batch build button tells me to pick one of 6+ overwrite for vanilla stuff, do i have to do this 6 times? haha. still not seeing any differences within the game, and i did use the fnis.

now it seems the issue is from hdt? though guards are still invisible despite hdt disable.

apparently these guard outfits were custom outfit. kinda seeing pattern of installing more mods fixes problem thing.

mostly fixed! that EVW mod really is a thing, had to download like 30 mods to fix it. thanks for the helps!

Just a tip: you won't encounter any dragons until you have done the first whiterun mission where you have to fight one

thank you so much, would've 100% tackled me if I had dragon related mod.

 

now I am learning wryed bash and seems to be going well, hoping all these mod learning will transfer over to TES6 well.
