kingdomhearts3 Mod Request - Playable Riku/Replace Sora with Riku

Hello silent void into which I throw messages, I'm new here.

Apologies if my request isn't formatted right, or what I'm requesting isn't easy, I have only a very limited understanding of the modding process.

Title says it all really, but I've tried the Tress Mod and C-Mod options-- and they're fun-- but they don't offer that real consistent gameplay experience yet... The Riku that loads in for those seems to have a limited pool of effectiveness and the party members tend to be inert/useless, etc.

Maybe that will be updated over time, but anyway I was hoping for more of just a model swap? Would that be possible? Just like playing as Sora, but use the model for Riku? Same moves, same keyblades, wouldn't even mind the same voice, but yeah. Model swap, if possible. I suppose the form changes wouldn't show up and all that, but I'm not picky.

I'm SUPER curious if there's a reason Riku is so absent, like, are his files super hard to find? He seems like he'd be a popular request but we've got character swaps for everyone from Terranort, to Xion, to Vanitas, to ahem... Waluigi... before him lol? It must be something, right? I dunno, but I'm very curious if there's an issue there.

Well, if there is, I'm probably too armature to fix it... but if it's as straightforward as other model swaps, maybe I can even try making it myself!

Okay!

So, still talking to myself here, but!

Thanks to the resources posted around from the kind people at OpenKH, I've taught myself some basics and followed through to model swap Riku for Sora (as well as some keyblades, etc, for practice).

The problem seems to be that his animation breaks while moving (due to some inconsistencies between files or somesuch, I'm still QUITE new) and those discussing this on the Discord seemed to run into the same issues.

In my case after the swap, even after removing abilities to troubleshoot: he can't jump, his animations freeze often while still gliding along the floor, and his attacks don't seem to continue into a combo, etc. That's definitely a step back from the TresMod version which seems to just port the 'player-Riku' whole. No access to Sora's abilities/keyblades or hopping maps, but at least that one ~ functions ~

So, failure so far, but at least I can be satisfied knowing one reason why there isn't one already. I feel like if one of the proper, more seasoned, vets of modding took a crack at it they could knock the issues out of the park-- as it looks like some people are working on some truly amazing stuff. Maybe eventually, when the right ppl can dedicate the time it will require. I can dream, can't I?

Hello there Stranger! I also made a post on this forum a little while ago (KH2 dubs). I'm also new to modding as you can see, but yeah, OpenKH has also helped me a lot. They gave me the tools necessary to extract the audio files from my dubbed version of KH2. My dream is to see some KH3 characters talk in my mother language again. I can't do much about that Riku mod you're talking about, but I've seen videos about similar mods for KH2 so... If they could do it in that game, I'm sure someone might be able to make it. Those mods require a bit more time because the mechanics for both Sora and Riku are not quite the same. But I encourage you to keep your hopes up! Someone will figure it out! :tongue:
