MrCache
Hey all,Ive decided to have a crack at modelling for fallout.Im a complete noob when it comes to modeling, I have made a kind of Sentry bot/ Robo Brain by cutting off the stock models.Heres what im up to:http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/ozi_moo_cow/sentrybrain.jpgThey are basically two separate bits atm.I am wondering what steps are next and how to do them.e.g;What settings i shuld have in maya? like scale?Connecting the two parts?UV mapping?Animations?Skinning?Importing into G.E.C.K? As you can see i have no idea, even if you could point me to any tutorials, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,-MrCache
mazakala
Next you would go and learn all there is to learn about bones and animation, this thing would probably need it's custom skeleton and a huge set of custom animations. I'm a noob when it comes to modelling and know nothing about animation, all I can say is that it's advanced stuff and a long and complicated task. SpeedyB64
This is one hell of a thing to start with! I would start smaller (like static objects, guns and simple havoc objects) I would get more experience with the program and getting things into the game first (I can't even rig and animate skeletons yet, and I've made entire building kits)
deliverance6
from where you are now, its a case of taking A LOT of bone rigging and animation tutorials, there may be some vanilla .kf animations that'd work with you're model but you'd still need a custom skeleton most likely. its a good idea to, but tbh, unless you're an exceptionally fast learner, then start over with smaller things like guns or static objects. creature animation is somthing that will take hundreds of hours to learn and probly just as many to make them work correctally ingame
etherealblade
Ok, So since everyone here is convinced that rigging that new skeleton and getting custom animations would be tough, BUT is it possible to combine existing animations to robots....Like have the Sentry bot use, missile launcher, gatt gun, and liberty prime laser at the head? I want to start on this but before I do I want to know if it is impossible to do.

All of them have different skeletons, and while I haven't tried to rig anything in FO3 yet, I can venture it's a very harsh job.
