Wisdom of the Ancestors - Discussion

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the discussion thread for Wisdom of the Ancestors. Here, roleplayers may post their character sheets, put up pics of their characters, discuss the RP, and handle any other OOC (out of character) business.

*There should be no OOC posts in the RP thread itself.*

Wisdom of the Ancestors is an RP derived from The Elder Scrolls series of video games: Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. This roleplay is set in the time following the events of Skyrim, roughly ten years after the conclusion of the Civil War and the defeat of Alduin the World Eater. The White Gold Concordat has been broken and war has resumed with the Aldmeri Dominion.

Here are some general guidelines that should be followed when posting in Wisdom of the Ancestors, originally made by Lisnpuppy.

1) Have fun. If you are finding yourself always irritated or unhappy...then why are you here. Figure out the issue or go do something else.

2) Never forget the line between RP In Character and Out of Character and don't cross it. It is easy, especially when you have particularly intense RP, to take things personally. Don't....99% of the time it isn't all about you.

3) Start with a well made character. Have a decent background and personality to make your RP more fun and easier. Your character doesn't have to be set in stone. But having a solidly made character is important or your RP may peter out. Have your character have likes/dislikes, goals, dreams, an arch-enemy....this will help you flesh them out even more and bring them to life.

4) Relationship RP should be the ICING not the CAKE! Make it a side-quest if you will...not the main one.

5) You have to give a little to get a little. We all have RP storylines in which we want others to engage. That is what makes it fun, right? But if you find a friend knee-deep in a RP of their own, don't come in and hijack the RP for yourself or refuse to participate because its not all about YOU. Have fun and throw your lot in with them! Trust me, when your time comes around, people will remember that you play well with others.

6) Don't be a MaryJane! Don't decide that you are going to be a half-dragon or the long-lost illegitimate son of the King of Whoville. It doesn't work, it probably isn't in the lore anywhere, and it will lead only to your RP downfall. Eventually your “special” character will begin to dominate everyone else and their RP. No one will want to play with you...so make your character special in other ways.

7) No godmoding!! Remember, you only control YOUR character and not others. When you RP, do not take over the actions of other Rpers.

For example: Jon casts a frostbolt at Matt knocking him back into the wall and breaking his arms.

Instead try: Jon cast a frostbolt hoping to hit Matt and knocking him out of the way.

This allows the other player to take action. You can have decided before hand how this will go out. You can roll to see what actions happen or how bad an injury is.

8 ) Soap Opera-ing. Many of us have wanted to play our character as crazy, a total badass or having an illness or amnesia. Those can all be valid and fun stories. The doom is in taking it too far or too long. These kind of stories ultimately leave little RP options for those around you. Always have movement and a goal in your RP...otherwise it goes nowhere.

9) Be willing to RP with anyone, anytime. Just because you are in a guild or Rping with a friend doesn't mean you can't include others. Walk-Up RP can lead to great things...or simply pass the time for a bit. If others don't RP EXACTLY like you...no sweat. Perhaps they are new and need some gentle guidance. So be open to everything!

10) Communication is the key. Always establish your RP boundaries when you are Rping with someone long-term. If you don't like swearing...or a particular kind of violence...or if you will take anything coming down the pike! Let others know. It avoids awkward and unpleasant conversations later.

A few more rules to add:

11) Rulers of cities are not allowed. It makes little sense for a character to be a ruler of a city and an adventurer at the same time.

12) No teleportation. For one thing, it can get really OP very quickly. For another, it causes pandemonium.

13) No dragons or Dragonborn characters allowed. No Daedric Princes incarnate (or Divines, for that matter), extremely long-lived Champions of Cyrodiil, Nerevarines, etc. Your character here is not a special prophesied hero, but a humble adventurer.

14) No strong sexual content. Just because your character/characters are in a relationship it doesn't mean that everyone wants to read what they are doing in their private time.

15) You are limited to THREE main characters. Side characters are allowed, but they must be in and out very quickly...no becoming a permanent part of the story.

Additionally, it is important (not to mention courteous) to take turns posting. If you are waiting on a roleplayer to interact with you, and they have not posted in a few days, PM them...they may be busy or may have simply forgotten that it was his or her turn to post. Please be considerate.

This could be fun....I used to play RIFTS (table top game) and miss it....Will give this a go....

I can use my Skyrim character so long as his not a Dovahkin in this game?....He is very staunchly RP'ed in my game and has a fully developed back story and personality, moralities, etc...I would love to stretch his RP legs further.

One more incoming

Name: Knight Commander Sienna Strident

Race: Imperial

Gender: Female

Age: 57

Appearance: Sienna is a woman who has faced evils from the very depths of oblivion and remained true to her faith and strong in the face of danger, she is tall at near six foot, and has a body of toned and lithe musculature, aiding in her youthful appearance. She has a large jaw, well-spaced eyes and full lips, her nose delicate, the commanders eyes are a deep brown, her skin light in comparison to most Imperials. The most notable feature of the commander is a huge shot of grey that runs through her raven-black hair, it is a thick line that goes from root to tip. She wears incredibly dark makeup around her eyes, and her lips are large and full. She shares many traits that the Strident women are known for- Elegant movements and a refined look, she is no exception to this rule, and shares the gaunt cheeks and high cheekbones that all of her female ancestors have had. Her youth is sustained by her weapon Wrath, which has kept her always looking at least ten years younger than her actual age, but does not stop her natural lifespan.

Skills: Favouring the blade, she has dedicated all of her training into mastering the art of the longsword, and being able to wear the heavy plate armour of her position. Aside from these two main skills, she is an adept of sorts in restoration, and can generally use any weapon she has to.

Equipment: Wrath: http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs39/i/2008/351/4/0/Elemental_Blade__Darkness_by_Unkn0wnfear.jpg

Shining plate armour made from an alloy of silver and adamantium, the breastplate is moulded to her body, as are most of the fittings, between her joints she wears black chainmail. Her shoulders are also encased by rounded pauldrons, a blue cape fastened across her chest, her right arm is a mix of silver and daedric armour, hand covered by dark daedric gauntlets, giving her right hand a rather sinister appearance.

Homeland: Cyrodiil.

Personality: Cold, unwavering and ruthless, Sienna’s icy demeanour is a mask for a broken soul and a shattered heart, and beneath this yet is a raging inferno of anger that awaits to be released upon those unlucky enough to face her. Completely devoted to her faith, she worships talos above all gods, unknown to her that her real blessings do not come from the gods, but the Daedric artefact Wrath that has slowly corrupted her for many years.

Background: Born into the ancient and powerful Strident family, Sienna is a direct ancestor of the ancient vampire, Selene, however this is unknown to her. In her youth she looked very much alike to her ancestor, and shares the vampire’s beauty.

Sienna was not interested in pursuing political intrigues as her family have done for centuries, and instead broke away from the manipulative grasp of her parents, leaving the Strident estate to study at the priory of the nine, under the reformed Knights.

For many years she studied under her masters until the time came for her to be fully accepted as a Knight of the Nine, she was welcomed into the order and began on her path to glory.

Conquest after conquest, Sienna found herself a Knight Commander when the Great War broke out, and lead her men into battle against the Aldmeri Dominion. At first the battles went in favour for the knight and her soldiers.

It was during this war she recovered the blade Wrath from a group of Altmer sorcerers holed up in an old Imperial fort, they were break-aways from the main Thalmor force who used the chaos as an excuse to perform Daedric rituals unnoticed, until they were discovered by the Knights of the Nine.

Sienna lead an attack force to assault the fort, and made it to the main chamber. It was there she recovered the recently-summoned artefact Wrath, just as it was pulled from Oblivion by the High Sorcerer did she cut him down and take the blade.

Her entire force was lost during the closing days of the war, and the blade left untouched in a locked case within the priory. After her shattering loss, she found the pull of the Daedric artefact too strong to resist, and took up the blade as her own.

Exiling herself from the priory for her failures, Sienna is now a vigilante, destroying evil wherever she may uncover it, oblivious to the control her blade holds over her.

OK, after much debate and thought, here are my three chars.

Name: Sandhya

Race: Khajiit

Gender: Female

Age: 26

Appearance: Dark golden-brown fur with slightly darker spots and stripes; distinct tiger-like dark brown markings on her face; long, broad snout and sharp features; silvery eyes transitioning to blue near her slit pupils; her hair is brown and wild, always in a high and thick ponytail; more muscled than the average female Khajiit.

Skills: Light armor, Blade, Marksman, Sneak, Lockpicking, Speechcraft

Equipment: Studded leather armor with hide boots and bracers. Sandhya usually wields a pair of steel daggers enchanted with Drain Stamina, though she can also use her claws in combat.

Homeland: Skyrim, Whiterun Hold

Personality: Like most Khajiit, Sandhya loves getting into places where she doesn't belong and taking things that aren't hers. Light-hearted and free-spirited, she is always on the move. She laughs a lot, often finding humor in things that others would not.

Background: Born in Skyrim to caravan masters, Sandhya has always been accustomed to travel. In fact, there is not one place in particular that she calls home. She has spent most of her life wandering around the mountains and valleys of Skyrim following whatever leads seem interesting to her. The rise of the Aldmeri Dominion and its power over the Empire concerns her, and the end of the White Gold Concordat has given her the excuse to hound small bands of Thalmor whenever they cross her path.

--------------------------------------

Name: Okuras

Race: Argonian

Gender: Female

Age: 30

Appearance: Olive green skin with brown markings; long, slender snout and deep-set, pale green eyes; forward-curling horns like a ram, with a crop of brown feathers atop her head; heavily muscled and tall for an Argonian.

Skills: Heavy Armor, Two-Handed, Block

Equipment: Banded iron armor and an iron battleaxe.

Homeland: Skyrim, Riften docks

Personality: Quiet, detached, and calm; strong-willed, often stubborn

Background: Okuras was hatched in Riften, born to two fishmongers. Despite the likelihood of her inheriting the family business, she decided to strike out on her own. She had ambitions to become a member of the Companions, but the organization turned her away. She became a lone mercenary for a while, eventually joining up with a band of well-known marauders. When she refused to raid an Imperial caravan, however, the marauders turned against her, and she was forced to slay them to defend herself. It is not surprising that Okuras is reluctant to become involved with a group again, though she realizes that these hard times call for people to band together against the oppressive Aldmeri Dominion.
