Changing The Effects Of Perks

A lot of the perks in Fallout are either underpowerd for there requirment and/or level. Or are just plain useless. I want to change that....

But I dont know how

Could someone explain in detail what I need to do to change the effects of perks, i'm a special kind of person that doesnt understand all this "Mod Talk".

For example.

Ninja

Melee Weapons 80, Sneak 80

The Ninja perk grants you the power of the fabled shadow warriors. When attacking with either Melee or Unarmed, you gain a +15% critical chance on every strike. Sneak attack criticals do 25% more damage than normal.

Now this to me seems pretty useless for a Stealth chracter. I was thinking of giving this perk a 50% Cloak when in Sneak and a 100% Damage Increase chance upon a succesful Sneak attack with a Melee or unarmed weapon.

How would I do this ?

open geck.

make a new module.

simply to modify in game perks, you can find these under

Game Effects>Actor Effects>ability

that will list all of the perks, but also other abilities you find in the game, such as the ghouls radiation immunity and mirelurks water breathing.

find the ability named 'PerkNinja' and edit it.

you will be given a new window which will give you some ID information and a field of effects.

right click on the field and select 'new' to add new effects to the ability.

opening up another window.

this window is the effect editting window, where you can choose effects, their magnitude, limitations, and requirements. all of the choices on the left of the menu change the effect, magnitude, duration, and attributes as such. the field on the right is the 'condition' field in which the ability will only become active when certian factors are met.

simply, find your desired effect from a drop down menu on the left side (it should say 'scriptedevent' by default). next add a 'Magnitude' to the new ability and press okay. the new effect should be added to the ability when ever your mod is active.

save your mod and activate it and the ability should automatically be modified.

well...if you look up the stealth boy in the geck (under ingestibles)

you can see what it does and it adds the "Stealth Field" effect magnitude 75

and in-game a stealth boy gives you +75% stealth field so i think your assumption is correct

that "StealthBoyInvs" effect may just be some leftover effect that was never used
