for mods

1

Download a mod you want to install

exampl http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21870

2

Now open the file with 7zip

download 7zip here http://www.7-zip.org/

3

go to your Oblivion\Data directory.

4

Drop the .esp files and the \Textures folder into your \Oblivion\Data directory (and yes to all )

5

Now start Oblivion but don't start the game but hit Data Files and Check both the Mod files you are using

6

Now just start the game and the mod should be working

7

I have a set of help files for people new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. I have included a sample mod to practice on and instructions for installing and using 7-zip. If you are interested, click on the highlighted link below to be taken to the site where they are kept. I recommend starting with #1 and working your way through them.

As to tools, for beginners I recommend OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager) and OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender)

OBMM allows control of mod load order and has quite a few other more advanced functions.

OBSE adds functionality that the original game maker (Bethesda) never dreamed could be done. And is required for many newer mods.

Neither of these is a true mod as they install outside the game. Play close attention to the install procedures on them as they do not install like mods and each installs differently.
