Final dialogue with companions won't trigger

I saw videos of Rory yelling at Howe before the fight on YT. It sounds a bit odd to hear you did not get it. Give me a moment and I will try to dig it out.

EDIT:

Footage of how he should act: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1rtRo6C2D_4. From the FAQ:

Q- I have a problem with Rory in the encounter with Arl Howe! I have ZDF installed.

A- Make sure you delete the file howe.dlg from the ZDF installation folders. Ser Gilmore has an updated version of that file (also includes the ZDF fixes), and the older version of the file will cause problems with Ser Gilmore.

Wait, I'll do that deleting of the file in ZDF, and I'll get back to you.

Also, somewhere someone said that the mod that goes with Ser Gilmore mod - the Companion Compatibility mod, or cc_core - is also prone to causing conflicts, even though the creator of the mod said that it was necessary. If the previous doesn't work, I'll try uninstalling that one.

Some time later...

It worked! I got the right dialogue before and after killing Howe!

The full name of the file that was deleted from ZDF is den511_howe.dlg, if anyone else needs this info as well. It's located in the subfolder Howe Fix. The .dlb file should stay there.

Now let's just hope that the crucial dialogue at the end will work without having to alter things again...

Another thing.

I may have discovered why the ending dialogue with the companions (the problem from before) didn't trigger.

Remember that Companion Compatibility mod I mentioned in the previous post? It was there. And Ser Gilmore mod was uninstalled at the time. So basically, I had Ser Gilmore mod uninstalled at the time, while forgetting to uninstall cc_core along with it. I remember staring at that file in AddIns and data folders, and wondering what the heck that is, and then I assumed it related to something important which shouldn't be tampered with. Obviously, I was wrong. It's been so long since I played DAO the last time (over a year), so naturally I had forgotten about all the mods I had lurking somewhere in there.

So, I'm 99% sure that cc_core was responsible for the failed dialogue with all the companions at the end. *sigh* I wish I didn't erase that save. It was such a good gameplay.

Oh, ConCom files were left? Hey, that could have as well been the case! Excellent news you tracked the fact down, now we are much more less in the dark. Honestly, perfect job hunting this one down, have a Qun-conscious cookie :D. Now don't you have any backups lurking out there? Or (shudders) an unemptied trashcan? So that you could recover the saves...

Yep, now I'm 100% sure that cc_core was responsible for failed dialogue. I don't know if it's necessary at all for the game to work correctly (with Ser Gilmore mod, of course), but I had it uninstalled before the final dialogue and there wasn't anything missing for the rest of the game, until the very end. Just to be sure, I had installed the Overwrite-Override pack (optional file in Ser Gilmore mod) which was meant to correct some bugs with Rory's dialogues and similar things. Mind you, when installing this pack, the overlapping files from ZDF must be deleted. However, if you uninstall cc_core, it probably isn't necessary. If you do put this pack in the override (after uninstalling cc-core), the only glitch was that when Rory was addressing the main character, the dialogue was doubled - first he said everything while just standing there like a stump, talking but his face wasn't moving; after that, the whole dialogue was repeated but normally. And at the ending credits, the note about hero's fate regarding her life with Rory was repeated after the whole list of events that occurred after the Blight. It's practically nothing if you ask me, but those repetitions were probably caused by Overwrite-Override pack (that pack was made to ensure displaying those important parts of the story, after all).

I'm glad I was able to overcome this problem! This thread was of great help and I'm thankful! <3 I hope it will be of use if anyone experiences the same.

@Magdalena: Uh... How do I recover a backup? *sheepish look*

This is really worthy insight, Katarsi. I bet others will benefit from the thread.

Regarding recovering files, it all depends on your machine and software. Do you have any backuping program running? As last aid, there are recovery discs to be obtained from specialist shops, which are pretty good, but I assume you might be using your operating system's default soft or perhaps something more dedicated. Norton has good backuping tools, so do Ashampoo and Nero. It is all up to what is the easiest to use for you. Perhaps you'd like to discuss that in a note if you have any questions?
