CreationKit Lighting Problems

Okay, I am new to modding and have been building a cell I am quite pleased with. Now it is time to light it. I can drag and drop the lighting effects into the cell and I see the marker for it, i can even toggle on and off the markers showing how far the light should extend. The only problem....there is no actual light showing. I have the light preview toggled and the room goes dark, but the lights don't turn on. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this issue?

Take a look at this: http://www.creationkit.com/Talk:Bethesda_Tutorial_Lights_and_FX

Specifically the "Toggle lights?" section about making sure your "Bright Light Color" under Render Window preferences is white (or at least not black).

Also, I find the lighting buttons in the toolbar to be a little confusing. I generally do my lighting with the "Toggle Lights" button off (that is the button on the toolbar isn't pressed in) and the Sky button on (pressed in).

It's all a bit counter-intuitive I think, but that seems to work for me.

Hope that helps a little

If you go into Preferences\Shaders & select #of lights, does it show up green, indicating nothing is lit?

Is it just in the CK and the lights are working when you go into the game?

I did try that and everything is green. There is a marker for the light but no light. The lights all work fine in game

Okay, so I have found something interesting. The lights are indeed working, but only when the lighting button is not depressed. When it is, the whole room goes dark and the lights go off. When it isn't, the room lights up like a stadium and you can only see the light if you pump up the effect to a super bright level. Shouldn't this be darker? Oh, and I am working in a new worldspace. This is frustrating...

The light you toggle with the A key has no bearing on the mod, it is only so you can see what you are doing.

With the bright light off, you should be able to see the light effects of the lights you've added.

If you can't see them with the work light off, you may have used shadow lights (the ones with the purple cross through them)

And not have shadows ticked in preferences\shader.

Use the #of lights toggle to judge your lighting. Red & Violet (Too much light) Blue & Indigo (Is cool) Green is not lit.

This is a BleakFallsCandleLight01 (Omnidirectional Shadow type) with the Borderwallfardark lighting template.

With the A light toggled you can clearly see the candle is working.

This is the same light, but with the Bleakfallsbarrowfar lighting template.

You can still see the candle light is working, but it is not so obvious.

If I was to use a brighter farmhouse template, it would be hard to tell if the candle was working.

One note on omnidirectional shadow lights. Don't use more than four in the players vision at once or you will drop the frame rate.

Yeah, I was using a shadow light, but even not using that I cannot see the lighting. I actually checked non-edited cells as well. With the worklight on it shows the light effects like yours does, in my cell, and in ones from the game I have not edited. However when I toggle the worklight off, it turns all lights off. Debug shows that they are working with the color change, but the lighting itself doesn't show without the worklight on : (
