Enemies and horses

Can someone tell me why enemies go straight for your horse instead of fighting you? What do they have against horses?

Seriously, what was Bethesda thinking?

They first see your horse, so they start attack him. I solved this by giving 200 personality and speechcraft to my horse, so everybody in the world has 100 confidence with him and don't attack him.

This is a real bug. Normally a bandit kill the traveler to steal the horse. In Oblivion they want to kill you and your horse, and if a bandit kills you (but it's really hard!), he/she don't chek your corpse . I think it's just for sport!

I'm certain forli hit the nail on the head. It's because the enemy sees the horse first, in turn attacking it first. I usually just try to outrun the enemy on my horse, 5k is a bit too much for my low level character to dish out again for another black horse.

Maybe there's something out in the vast sea of mods that fixes this...

I don't know. When I'm riding my horse I run to the destination without stop. If an enemy sees me (Wait! I mean: my horse!), I continue to run. He start to follow me, but eventually he gets bored.

That I know of, you can't change essential status via console, only CS. But don't quote me on that.

I think there are a number of mods out there that address this same issue already, but again, not sure. Unfortunately, I can't think of the names, so I'm afraid I haven't really helped much, have I? http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/confused.gif

Like Raithfyre said, mods are your best option to fix the isssue. I think that UOP(unnoficial Oblivion patch) fixed this already.

I have all the unofficial patches (vanilla, Shivering Isles, official mods), and the enemies still get it in their heads to attack my horse! Also, I've got the Chestnut Unicorn mod running, and they still go after the horse. Why didn't Bethesda even bother to fix this? Are they stupid?

Well, we can't call them stupid after they made such great games, it's just that Oblivion was a little rushed in order to be released on time, acording to thier schedule, so it's very posible they didn't have the time to fix all the bugs.
