Texture Corruption

Zephyr102

Recommended Posts

After about an hour of play, I start seeing weird corrupted textures in Fallout 4. It's never the same items/objects, and sometimes it doesn't show up at all. It seems to be affected by distance, and sometimes fades when I zoom in with a weapon. A quick restart will usually get rid of the corruption, but it still comes back after a while.

Here's a gallery of some samples - http://imgur.com/a/7FQzo

I've also seen bushes and tree leaves freak out in a similar way- appearing blocky (or not at all) from a distance, then looking fine up close. You can see a few of those bushes in the fourth screenshot - they look like nasty blobs of tar.

I've been chasing this bug for a while, since Automatron released. Tried removing various mods, but I don't have anything in that I suspect of messing with textures. Have tried manually deleting my FO4 directory and reinstalling from Steam. My R9-380's drivers are up to date, and my temps are fine. Ran a test of system memory, and found no errors. Haven't seen anything quite like this in any other games.

Basic system info:

Windows 10

AMD FX-6300

R9-380 4G

8GB system RAM

Anyone else seen this? Anyone managed to find a solid fix?

Man I used to get that occasionally in FNV, purple/green/blue mesh patches would suddenly appear on the ground.. Never figured it out for sure but I suspected it was due to overclocking my 7950........

I guess drivers could play a part, though I went through many sets.. Do u have ATI or Nvidia?,

Edit: I've got some screenshots of the artifacts somewhere,, if I can find them I'll upload a couple...maybe itll help someone.

@DJZephyr, Found the pics...taken 2 years ago.

CPU is 8320 @4.7 and GPU at the time was 7950... So similar specs...to you.

Only ever appeared in Fallout New Vegas for me.... maybe it's to do with the engine or a combo of the engine and AMD drivers and overclocking..idk.

I'm playing both F04 and FNV atm (for New Vegas Bounties III) and haven't seen any corruption... Actually I haven't seen them ever since I spilt coffee on the 7950 and fried it.Using my backup 6950 atm...hahaha

I had the occasional texture glitch in FO3 (and I think that was on an old Nvidia machine), but usually only if I installed a mod wrong. This is happening to vanilla textures in FO4, even after reinstalling.

I'll try to remember to update this if a driver/game patch fixes it.

One suggestion I forgot about is to look in CCC and disable Surface Format Optimisation which is enabled by default. It doesn't play well with some games and causes artifacts, specifically blocky squares in GTAV.

Worth a try. I leave it turned off permanently now..
