Consistent crash near Whiterun

CTD as soon as I try to get near whiterun. It seems to be between honeybrew meadery and the western watchtower, almost any closer than that I crash to desktop without fail.
Re-installed, did nothing.
With or without mods, it crashes.
Went away, Did hours of quests (without ctd), came back, CTD on Whiterun again.
Put mods back, played for another hour all was fine.... until ctd at Whiterun again.

I have no idea what is happening. I can basically do anything I want anywhere else, but I cant bloody progress in the main questline at whiterun..

For a completely clean, unmodden version of skyrim I'm pretty sure all of the meshes and textures should be in BSAs. Meaning there should not be a Meshes or Texture folder in the Data folder. If there is, it's overriding the BSAs.

The thing about textures and meshes is they can look ok, but still not be in the correct format for SSE. I've run into Oldrim textures that will crash SSE. Oldrim meshes need to be optimized.

You could give this a try. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4697?tab=files It will clean up any leftover files after you uninstall all your mods.

It's looking to me like you may need to start over with a clean install and add mods back in One At A Time until you find the culprit.

At the very least drag the meshes and textures folders to the desktop, Or rename them so they don't override any BSAs. Then fire the game up and see if you still have an issue. Missing textures and meshes shouldn't crash the game, but you may see "purple" textures or red squares with "!" in them. But, if your install is clean then those things shouldn't happen.

I'm not trying to funny here, or anything. I'm just not sure what all you know about modding Skyrim. But, make sure none of the mods you are trying to use are for Oldrim.

What mod manager are you using?

I've been using mods for a while, but Im not an expert at mods or anything. I dont go into the folders a lot. I'm going to try to do what you said and report back. I use nexus mod manager.

UPDATE: Clean re-installed SSE and removed my data folder entierly before launching, didn't touch any mods. No crash seems to occurr. Does this mean a mod was the culprit? Or is whatever was crashing me gone?

Yup, It's one of the mods

Now you start to add them back one at a time and testing until you crash.

I've gone through every mod (100+) and I think I found the culprit. Once I uninstalled this mod, https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/9480 , my game stopped consistantly crashing at whiterun. I did notice there was an update on the forums for it, and I may have had an older version. Shame, because I think the mod looks great. Thanks for your help.. I know I'm probably going to crash once in a while, but that's a part of Skyrim, aint it? :)
