Weapon Part not craftable. Mostly

I began trying to make this mod for myself but it is too much work for me atm. It's an idea for an immersion mod and would go well with a hardcore Survival type Play through, like Frost and other immersion mods.

Horizon also but Horizon would require its own patched version of this.

The Idea is to make weapon mods (receivers, extended magazines, barrels etc) non craftable. Instead, you find the attachments as rare loot around the commonwealth. Similar to how you find attachments in other games like DayZ or something. Attachment mods could be added to several container LL and Vendors LL. As well as this, weapons could be switched to have 'Random' as the default Object Template, so they will spawn on enemies with a variety of attachments.

Crafting at the weapons bench can still be done but requires only one Misc item, the weapon attachment itself, Perks such as Gun Nut could still be required for things like receivers, coz I am sure switching over a receiver is more complicated then adding a sight to a rail attachment.. And Higher Gun Nut Perks for Laser weapons and then Higher again for Large weapons.. Coz stripping parts of a mini gun might be simple but probably isn't if you have no knowledge of firearms at all, like me.

Creating short barrels or short stocks should still be available for most weapons to craft with no requirements if they look like they have simply been cut down, such as Hunting Rifle or Double Barrel Shotgun. Also no requirement for things that look like they simply fold down/collapse such as the Long and Short variants of the Assault rifle stock.

All Pipe weapon parts should remain craftable with required Perks (possibly increased perk requirements for some parts, like receivers) Auto Pipe weapons should probably have added cone of fire penalty.

This second part is where a lot of the work would come in. I guess this part is not necessary, but It completes the mod.

The crafting station could also give options to craft some attachments in a makeshift variant. Barrels, stocks and sights. These could be made with normal wasteland components so, if you need a sight rather than iron sights, you can craft one. BUT the Pipe weapon sights meshes would have to be used and altered to fit and be accurate for each weapon. Pipe weapon Stocks would be easier to convert to other weapons. Just a simple nif swap and some possible tweaking to align them. Some other makeshift stocks such as the shovel stock could be added, even possibly some other items from the Set Dressing Meshes that might fit well.

Barrels could be simply re-textured to a rusty texture or actual pipe weapon barrel meshes redone to fit.. but.. idk why you would choose to add a pipe barrel to a hunting rifle for example, if you did, there should be a cone of fire penalty. Perhaps a long makeshift barrel could still be more accurate than a short barrel.

These makeshift attachments could also appear on weapons carried by NPCs if added to the Object Modification template.

I understand this is an ambitious mod, I began doing some work on this and gave up fairly quickly. its not difficult but grindy and repetitive edits.

Also, This would be for vanilla and DLC weapons only, but once the framework is done, people could create patches for other weapon mods.

To me its always felt weird that you can craft a scope that looks exactly like something you would buy from things like grass bottles and tin cans etc.

I know basically all crafting in the game is like that when it comes to settlement objects, mods like Horizon address some of these things.

Horizon also sort of implements something for weapons but adds basic generic weapon parts as misc items for crafting. I would like to see a mod that goes a step further in regards to weapon crafting..

That was a long post, sorry. Let me know if you think something like this is a good idea. Or, if something like this has already been done.

As you said, what you want is pretty easy to implement, even using the pipe parts on other weapons, it would just very time consuming. Hopefully you get lucky and someone is looking to pick up a longer term project.
