Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed

I've recently decided to install NFS:5 on my computer which uses XP. Little did I know that it wouldn't work. At all. At least not yet anyway. Which is why I came here (after doing a little research of my own). If any of you have this game than maybe you could help me:

I have tried:

-renaming the gimme.dll file and deleting it

-installing the porsche.smb patch

-Changing the Compatiblilty to Win. 98/Me

My problem is the game freezes and repeats a tiny clip of music over and over again right after the 'create a new character' screen. Then it pops back to my desktop, in a very low resolution, which in turn fixs itself restoring my computer back to normal.

The people who don't have this game probably have no clue what I am talking about, but the people who do might. The above solutions (which I said I tried) I found on various sites and just tried on my own.

Btw, I am running the game with a no-cd crack on a burned copy, though it isn't piracy because my brother burned it so we could both have one (and play at the same time) in the same household, but now he doesn't use it anymore, anyway. I hope this isn't piracy at least....

You might want to post this somewhere where it's more likely that anyone will have the game and be willing to help you. I know that you've posted in off-topic, but asking for help on not just another game, but another genre entirely might not lead to much success.

Anway, it looks like you've got sound issues. Try running it using a shell program or with the sound/music disabled. There's usually a -nomusic -nosound tag you can add to a shortcut in order to run it this way.

As for the piracy issues, it is acceptable to have a backup of the original CD, but if the game is installed on your brother's computer, then you're breaking the law. Turn yourself in now.

Points a finger like someones 9 year old brother, "OOOOO... You said 'piracy'!!"

Continues by doing an embarassing little dance and singing "you broke a rule" to the tune of "london bridge is falling down."

Seriously though, changing the compatability to win/98, in my experience, does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.. as far as I can tell, it is running it the same way it usually does.

Now, I don't own the game, but I no a trick or two about getting those little panzy programs to work when they do crap like that..

First of all, we know you are running XP, which means the computer is at least half decent.. What exactly are the specs (graphics card, ram, processor, etc.)? You can find this by right-clicking "my computer" and selecting properties. Look at the tabs and write down the following things found in my example below:

AMD Athlon XP 2500

1.83GHz (and out-performing competitive 2.1 GHz)

512 MB of RAM; DDR

* SoundBlaster Live! Audio

* NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

* Note that the audio and video details will be found in the respective areas of the control panel.

After I know that, I can advise you further.

After getting a different crack, it worked! Just need the porsche.smb installed and voila! But it turned out to be a waste, within a half hour I deleted the game, because the graphics and quality didn't match current games.... <_<

So I guess I could say, sorry to bother you!

Bah, of course it is out of date.. Gand Tourismo 3 came out a couple years ago and still has the best grapics of any racing game on the market. It's the truth, don't argue, I'm hardset in my reasoning.

Anyway, I bet the old half-life has better graphics over all.. Oh well...

And btw, those are the specs for my comp if anyone cares.
