First, create your new scope reticle (crosshair) texture. I always save it as a DXT5 dds due to the transparency. I'm not sure if DXT3 will work or not. Make sure the background is transparent and not white, otherwise you will not be able to see through it, which makes it a bit useless for a scope reticle.

Next, create a nif that uses the new texture. The easiest way to do this is to edit an existing scope nif with NifSkope and just change the scope texture to point to your new scope texture that you created, then save the new nif with a new unique name. This nif is typically placed under data\textures\interface\hud.

Finally, go into the GECK and open up your weapon's form. Click on the Art and Sound tab, and down near the bottom is the scope definition. Make sure "has scope" is checked, and change the Target Nif to the new nif that you created with NifSkope.
