Decompiling and then recompiling Fallout: New Vegas to 64 bit

What if the modding community decompiles the base New Vegas executable (.exe file) and compile it again in x64 bit. This would make it so the amount of RAM is technically unlimited, which would boost performance considerably. I've searched stack overflow and this is possible with a compatible debugger to decompile the 32 bit .exe and recompile it into a 64 bit .exe. Of course this has a lot of fine print that I would like to know about so if anyone knows about this please comment.

What is not obvious until you do manage to "decompile" is if the game relies upon proprietary code libraries which are only available under license from the original developer. This "intellectual property" is the core of their business and is usually the first major stumbling block to such projects. Even supposing they were willing to license the libraries to you, they would not be cost effective from a modding community or small developer perspective unless the result were "sold" in some manner to recover the costs (in the thousands at the very least). Completely ignoring issues such as "copyright" and "trademark" law, as well as the coding changes that are required.

 

Believe that if the effort were as trivial as you suggest, the "TES" franchise would have already done so. Look at how long it took to convert "Skyrim" to "Skyrim SE" (requiring a completely new game engine), and that they haven't done that for any other TES title.
