UV Mapping Issue in Outfit Studio, NifSkope, and Blender 2.91

Recommended Posts

I learned how to UV map today but I encountered a few difficulties.

Outfit Studio and NifSkope will show the textures on the model in the 3D window but will not show the texture DDS in their UV Editor grid views. They show the UV Map for the NIF but not the texture that should be visible underneath.

Blender will show the texture DDS in UV editing mode, once I load it in, but it will not show the texture on the model in the 3D window.

I just need one of the three programs to work for UV mapping. I managed to get a final product using Blender, once I learned how to use cube projection, but there has to be an easier way.

Is anyone able to get one program to show the texture DDS in the UV map editor and display that texture on the model in the 3D window?

I am using Blender 2.91, NifSkope 2.0 Dev 7, and Outfit Studio 5.3.1.

Of course, now that I am working on the next project, both Outfit Studio and NifSkope are displaying the DDS texture correctly in their UV Map editors. As usual, Outfit Studio is easy to work with and probably the best editor for simple fixes. It is quick and intuitive. Edit: Unfortunately you can't pick mesh polygon faces to UV map. You have to choose a rectangular area of your mesh or select vertices.

NifSkope's UV editor puzzles me. How do I move the polygons in the UV Map around once I have them highlighted/selected?

Blender may still be the best solution for mapping large numbers of contiguous polygons at the same time and keeping them all scaled and positioned correctly with respect to one another, but I hate going back and forth from NIF format to OBJ format. Edit: Blender's UV mapping tools are really good though so I expect to use them a lot.

You need to set up a texture set with proper paths to DDS files in NifSkope, if you want to use the UV-Map editor.

If the paths or the texture set are missing, texture wont show up in that editor.

Moving the UV-Map vertices is done by selecting them, then click and hold mouse button and move. Everything that was selected will move.
