  1. I tried NMM for my oblivion install a few months ago and had issues with several of the mods not installing correctly, so I took the plunge and learned how to use OBMM and Wrye Bash. I did, however, just purchase Skyrim, so it looks like I'll be downloading NMM again anyway. Definitely install one mod at a time if it's something involved like Weather - All Natural, then play test. If it's just sounds or specific textures you can lump a few together, but keep track of what you're doing. The full version of Qarl's textures might be doable if it was your only mod, but once you add high res characters, terrain, distant terrain, obge, and whatever else, I'm pretty sure your 4870 will wet itself. It's simple enough to overwrite the files with the optimized version though, so there shouldn't be any huge issues trying it first. I have had no trouble whatsoever with quicksaves, and I use it almost exclusively between town visits. The only issues I've run into that's caused crashes is visiting multiple oblivion gates. Something about the flames and flamepillar in the center of the tower bog the system down if I try to close more than 1 or 2 gates in a single session. I've been collecting all my gameplay screenshots here if you want to compare with vanilla oblivion.

  3. You won't see much better than 30fps after modding. My thread lists my mods and specs which are slightly better, and I dip down to 19fps at times, with OSR capped at 30. I just run OBGE's MDLAA and CrysisDoF with vanilla HDR.
  4. Recent trip back from Weatherleah, really cool area once the ogres are gone, lol. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7160/6759268665_42b7d4ddc5_b.jpg Sunrise from Cloudruler Temple. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7005/6753867735_4eafc1e0d2_b.jpg
  5. Natural Faces and vanilla oblivion just use blotchy skin patches to show age. I'd install the following: Improved Facial Textures High Rez Skin/Face Textures for HGEC Self-installing .exe's.
  6. Gotcha, there are still quite a few spots where the terrain as well as the heightmaps are inaccurate and pop in slightly different from the LOD, which seems to be what that mod would correct. What I was trying to figure out was how the preloadlimit effects the sudden appearance of trees that weren't there at all, or were still drawn from a distance with less foliage. It seemed like with a preloadx10, the entire near-horizon of trees and buildings would pop in all at once, causing a stutter every few seconds when it happened, but it could be my imagination. I'm no programmer, just fiddling with the numbers while questing and running around aimlessly.
  7. I was more referring to the point in the near cells when textures/meshes switch from LOD to fully rendered, but that mod looks interesting too, I'll have to read more about it, especially once I try out Unique Landscapes and the other new content addons.
  8. I've been toying with the Cell Buffer and Preload limits to try to reduce stuttering but also minimize some of the last minute pop-in of scenery, especially while travelling on the black horse (fastest horse). The following numbers seem to be the best balance for my system, but I'm still testing with preload sizes. uInterior Cell Buffer=9 uExterior Cell Buffer=108 (144 really overloaded my 1gb Radeon 5830) iPreloadSizeLimit=157286400 (original value x6)
  9. First time playthrough Mod list which beautifies but doesn't add content to the game.
  10. DarkUI or Darnified UI, install with Oblivion Mod Manager.
  11. Translation: "I just ran full speed into a wall and it hurt. Can anyone tell me why?" Don't do that, it hurts. Very few mods are meant to be installed manually, examples being simple texture mods, and even those won't work if you don't have some form of .bsa redirection to tell Oblivion not to load the default textures, but to search for the new ones. I have been workign on a Guide for installing/modding the Steam version of Oblivion which may help. Getting this game working properly takes time and understanding of the mods and their installation order, but I tried to explain what I learned as I went. You definitely can't just use the data folder as a file dump.
  12. Disregard this. I read back through the old comments on EVE and found another user who said to edit the EVE.esp with TES4Edit to change the file path on Gauntlets of Might to grhys/exnemconv/dwarven/f/gauntlets.nif.
  13. On my laptop I'm running very minimal mods, relevant ones include HGEC with BBB and NoMaaM, plus EVE stock equipment replacer with BBB. I haven't had any issues but today I looted the Gauntlets of Might while doing the Fighter's Guild quest line, and whenever I put them on the character's hands disappear. I'm assuming there's a texture or something missing, but I haven't found any other dwarven gloves to see if they are visible or not. Before I download Refscope and spend a couple hours learning how to use it, does anyone happen to know what to check or edit to get my hands to show up again? lol. Thanks.
  14. Turn off self shadows. Try the following for indoor: [blurShaderHDRInterior] fBrightScale=0.5000 fBlurRadius=7.0000 Outdoor: [blurShaderHDR] fBrightScale=1.0000
  15. It all depends on what you want to do and how much you want to change the game. This thread I've been working on makes the game look and sound a lot better, but doesn't change or add much as far as content of the core game. TESCosi is a good knowledge base on how to get started. If you played oblivion a lot on the console and want to completely overhaul the game, I'd still start with the basics in my guide, then move on to FCOM or Nehrim's or some of the other mods that change almost everything. It's definitely a learning process, lol.
