  1. Nevermind, I still crash and after installing some mods I crash during saving too, although that's probably unrelated to the original crash problems. So yeah, I used the multicore fix and set my poo to 2 and then to 1 and still I crash. It's a testament to how good this game is modded that I didn't permanently delete it from my hard drive a long time ago. edit: I love how it censors the "S word". This site has mods for animated prostitution and fully exposed beavers, but swearing on the forums? That's crossing the line.
  2. As I mentioned I set the iNumHW bit to 2 and I still crashed, albeit with a popup. I set it to 1 and it seems to be fine. Bethesda is lucky that the people writing mods for this game are so talented.
  3. Hi, I've recently purchased a new desktop computer and am having problems with Fallout 3 crashing/freezing. Specs: Windows 7 64-bit Athlon X3 435 CPU Radeon 4870 graphics card (with latest drivers and tried using a previous driver version) GA-M7700T-UD3P motherboard 4 gb RAM Few hundred gb of hd space. I'm running the Steam version of the game. The game is set to Ultra High settings and is being run at 1920x1080 resolution. It runs very smoothly until it crashes. I am seeing this problem even with a fresh install with no mods or even DLC installed. It is a completely vanilla install I'm using. Initially I found myself freezing up at seemingly random. Sometimes during that tedious intro sequence where you are born, other times just, well, whenever really. I can't see any pattern. And when I say freeze, I mean the game abruptly stops any and all function and I am forced to ctrl-alt-del to close the program (which is listed as Not Responding) that way. Having done a lot of mucking about trying to get this to work, I eventually decided to try that editing of my Fallout.ini so that the bUseThreadedAI=1 and iNumHWThreads=2 addition. I did it for the hell of it, but it actually changed the problem a bit. Now it'll crash by stopping to work, but it gives me an error pop-up as well. But ultimately, the sum of my issue is just that with a system which can run any other game I've tried flawlessly, I repeatedly crash or freeze playing FO3 using a completely vanilla install. I'd really appreciate any assistance with discovering what is up, here. It's pretty frustrating to be unable to play this game due to some mysterious quirk with FO3 that makes it dislike my system.
