Dark0ne you have really dealt with this issue well. You should be pretty proud of the way you have handled everything.

I think a lot of people, Im including myself here, take the modding community for granted to an extent. Oblivion was the first game I started getting mods for, Skyrim was the first game where I spent a good proportion of my time playing around with the mods. If there is already a community in place with 1000s of members, 1000s of endorsements, millions of downloads then some people think they arent needed. A lot of people have come out of the woodwork in the last few days (again myself included) and I can totally understand a mod author saying, why are you speaking up now about us not getting money now, but not even thanking us when you were grabbing our free mods. I get that. I have never in my head taken a mod author for granted, but I do realise that my actions over the last few years has been exactly that. If one good thing does come out of all this then I hope a lot more people are going to recognise the same thing and be a bit more proactive towards endorsements and donations. I really hope Beth and Valve find a way to get you guys rewarded that benefits the community as well. The system they used sucked, but there was a pro there as well. -

I dont think anyone is against mod creators getting money for good mods. Everyone was against the system Valve and Beth introduced. I respect all modders who could have deleted all their free files straight away and charged for them, without thinking whether the system that had been introduced was beneficial long-term for the community. They are the modders I hope do get rewarded some time in the future when Valve and Beth come back with a system that hopefully was created alongside the community. -
Steam and Bethesda remove paid modding from Skyrim Workshop
riverreveal replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
I believe there are people at Bethesda and Valve who tried to do this for the entirely right reasons. But I also believe there were people at both that were doing it for the wrong reasons. It's why we were left in the situation where a system was introduced that satisfied no one and upset many. I am all behind the ideas of modders getting money from their creations if their mods are good enough, but the system Valve tried to introduced was so flawed on so many levels that it had no chance; Hopefully a system can be found in the future. Lets just hope there is a hell of a lot more communication with the actual community next time. To the Dark0ne: I hope you do release your concluding blog piece, I dont think its a case of beating a dead horse, its about getting as many informed opinions out there as possible. Indeed I hope it isn't a concluding piece but the start of a greater conversation where the community, Bethesda and Valve find some common ground, its easy to forget there were pros to what was happening, just lost in a system of cons. -
In response to post #24705719. #24705874, #24709814 are all replies on the same post. So dedicated to the modding tools they wont even bother with the main game. What motivation is there for devs to spend money making a decent UI when they can sit back and watch the money roll in as modders do it for them?

Chesko, right now you might feel like there are a lot of people against you, but in time people will look at you as being the first person to take on Valve and Bethesda and their ill-thought out policy changes. Sure things could have been handled better, but thats life, you are trying to do the right thing now and that makes you a good person. Dont give up modding, you are way too good to not be around.

Wait until Fallout 4 or ES 6 comes out and its workshop only and the VaC ban people people who download unworkshop mods from sites like this. You can sit and analyze and say its too soon to come to conclusions, but in the same way you say you saw these days coming because of day one DLC, Early access, ect you must be able to see whats going to happen one day with the curated workshops and sites like Nexus? They wont co-habitate. Valve are quite happy giving Nexus and others money now because they wont have to worry about you in 5 years time because you wont be allowed to host mods of the biggest current games. You say you will fight it, why arent you starting now?

Quick updates to the site, money money money edition
riverreveal replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
The problem with donating now is that a week later the modder could be selling their latest version of the mod on steam. If i have just donated £5 for someones 1.0 build, im going to be a bit miffed about spending another £5 on steam for version 1.1. The trust at the moment is very thin. Shame on you valve/beth. -
Valve/Bethesda announce paid modding for Skyrim, more games to follow
riverreveal replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
Now its paid mods, tomorrow it will be mods only through the workshop, free mod from nexus, no, game banned. Why would Valve/Beth want great communities like nexus about if they can profit more without them being part of their games? Fallout 4/ Elder Scrolls 6 will be steam only, steam workshop only. We looked at the shiny sales and great prices made a pact with the devil. We have made better decisions.
