  1. This thread is a lifesaver. But has anyone ever said WHY this happens? And is there any way to prevent it happening? It's so annoying, riding around Skyrim and occasionally hear some invisible thing punch my horse, and see "was equipped" in the corner. I'm pretty sure I have a couple of effects on my player right now but they're not producing any visible effects, so god only knows what they're doing to my game behind the scenes...
  2. You know these candles you see in Draugr barrows? http://i.imgur.com/gLYCERzl.png They give off no light, yet they themselves glow this really horrible, bright, completely unshaded (note: but not untextured) and washed out yellow colour. It's really super annoying. At first I thought it was due to the mod "SMIM" but I removed the candle files and they remain the same, so I really don't know what could be causing it. Is there any way to fix this?
  3. Problem solved: It was being caused by a self-made patch that disabled HDR, Bloom and Eye Adapt. Some settings conflicted with RLO and CoT. After more carefully merging the values, I managed to keep RLO and CoT's changes AND disable all the other crap without causing weird lighting issues like this. If anyone's thinking of doing the same - or if you ran into the same problems I did - make sure you keep the "White", "Sky Scale" and "Sunlight Scale" values from your lighting mods, zero all the "Bloom" settings, and put "Eye Adapt Speed" around 40 (or higher), and "Eye Adapt Strength" at 1. DO NOT put zeroes for the eye adapt settings... that's what caused all this.
  4. I've already said it on your mod page, but I wanted to repeat it here: Thank you so much, Callik! Such a simple fix, and I never thought of doing it. Lol, I was all "gotta edit the files, nifskope, havok tools, raawr!" and it didn't have to be so goddamned complicated. :P
  5. Hello all, I just finished the quest to obtain the Staff Skull of Corruption, but whenever I cast it my screen goes pure white and all I can see are my HUD elements. The effect disappears if I open my map screen, but otherwise it is permanent and never fades by itself. All DLCs, modded game, load order: Btw: I am NOT using enbseries. I'm wondering if anyone recognises this issue and could tell me if it's fixable. To be honest I'd rather keep my mods than disable something for this small issue, but it would be nice to fix whatever the problem is and use this very awesome-looking staff. It suits my evil Altmer quite well. :] Thanks for any help/advice.
  6. As for adding mods or changing the load order, I honestly don't know. I don't *think* I changed anything around that time, but I certainly have added several mods since the time I met and adopted her. Here's how it went. When I first met and spoke to Sofie, I did not own a house yet. I offered to adopt her. She asked me if I had a house she could go to. I said no. A few in-game days later, I was back at Whiterun. I purchased the house, and all of the upgrades- including the child's bedroom. About a day later, I was back in Windhelm (I said Winterhold earlier by mistake) and caught up to Sofie again. This time, when she asked me if I had a home for her, I said yes. She then told me she'll gather her things and meet me at home. It was late, but I decided I would ride through the night and get home before her. I was delayed, though, and got caught up in some minor sidequests. But, to the best of my recollection, I believe I arrived in Whiterun the next evening. (Bear in mind that my timescale is 1RL->5Sky) When I entered the house, Sofie was standing in the dining area. I spoke to her, and she delivered the same line: "I need to get my things. I'll meet you at home." Then she ran out of the house, and out of the Whiterun interior city-space. That's pretty much it. From the time I adopted her, to the time I saw her back in Whiterun, was probably one continuous play session... so I don't think I added any mods during that time.
  7. No, I went all the way back to Whiterun and found her walking around inside Whiterun again. By the way, I did that without crashing! I've been riding to/from Whiterun along various roads, and haven't crashed again since disabling SkyTest. On reading that mod's comments page, I'm starting to think it is the primary cause of my CTDs. I am still troubled by the repeated "adoption scheduler" errors though, and the fact that Sofie is stuck in her endless loop. Is there some way to set a quest variable, or somesuch, to make her think she's done her preparations and just needs to go home? I'm not sure how all of that works, to be honest. I want to try adopting another kid, but I don't know where to actually find any. I ran into her purely by accident early in my character's life. That also means going back to a save before I adopted her will be a bit difficult. I'll lose a lot of history, sadly.
  8. I disabled a few of the unrecognised plugins, as well as Owned (and the midas-owned patch), but still encountered a crash (same entry last in my Papyrus: defaultDeleteSelfOnReset.OnLoad() - "defaultDeleteSelfOnReset.psc" Line 25). I know what most of these other plugins change, having looked at everything in TES5Edit many times over the course of troubleshooting this issue, and I'm confident they don't touch anything related to this. Now I have SkyTest disabled, and am currently following Sofie (I kept calling her Sophia, my bad) as I found her walking along the road leading East from Whiterun. I'm curious to see where she ends up, but she walks soooo slowly... :/ I'll post back my findings if/when I crash again, or if Sofie does something unexpected. Thanks again for your helpful suggestions, ripple. Edit: She walked a little ways across the bridge over the river, and then suddenly disappeared. The last thing in my log right now is "QUEUING EMERGENCY MOVE." So I guess that's what that does.
  9. 1) Using Wrye Bash, I move them to a more appropriate position in the load order. OP has my actual load order. Whenever I add a mod or change its position, I re-build my bash patch. For the most part, I follow what BOSS suggests, especially when it comes to mod compatibilities and their associated patches. 2) I adopted Sophia from Winterhold. She runs around the outskirts of Whiterun now, to-and-from my house, and always says the same thing when I talk to her: "I need to grab my things, I'll meet you at home." I don't know exactly where she goes; she runs off and I lose sight of her. I haven't seen her again since I encountered her leaving my house a couple of days ago, but I'm sure she's running around outside somewhere. I haven't tried adopting more kids. I do not have a spouse. 3) Very frequently CTD when approaching Whiterun. If I manage to get close to Whiterun, I frequently CTD when crossing the bridge over the small stream leading up to the main gates. These CTDs will give me the typical "Skyrim has encountered an error and needs to close." popup. Other CTDs occur along major roads leaving the Whiterun area-- these crashes drop me immediately to my desktop (the Skyrim window just vanishes) without an error. This type of crash is what happened and produced the error log I posted in OP (the full log is bigger because I was playing for about ten minutes, and I can post the full log if needed). Other areas of the world sometimes CTD, but they are a rarer occurance. To my recollection, I have never CTD'd in an 'inside' cell. Thank you for the suggestions- I will remove the timescale plugin and uninstall 'Owned'. I was under the impression that setting timescale via the console was temporary, and I wanted a more permanent solution. My current setting for this equates to 1 real-life minute = 5 Skyrim minutes.
  10. BOSS log: Unrecognised: As a general note, not all listed plugins are active, and BOSS sorts them slightly differently to my preferences. Unrecognised plugins are sorted by hand. I have performed ITM cleaning on all my plugins except Skyrim's original files, and have Bashed everything that needed Bashing. Thank you for taking a look, ripple!
  11. Please help, I'm at my wits end. I adopted a little girl and sent her to my (only) home in Whiterun. Ever since then, my Papyrus log gets absolutely spammed to hell with "adoption scheduler" warnings and errors. She never moves into the home and won't speak to me. My most recent crash log ended like this: [02/18/2013 - 03:45:15PM] Error: Cannot check location against a None location stack: [ (00018A56)].Location.IsChild() - "<native>" Line ? Am I really the only person in the world getting these errors? My game's heavily modded, sure, but I don't have ANY mods that touch player homes or adoption, so I don't see why any mods I have would conflict with this. Mods: http://pastebin.com/jAfnViQW I'm facing the prospect of losing my RP character. She's not very high level (11), but that's not the point. I've spent a lot of time with her. I've had so many awesome adventures and moments with her. But I can't play her anymore, because 5 minutes of running around outside always ends with me suddenly back to my desktop. :( This is my last attempt at getting even a single reply, helpful or not. After that... bye bye, Unlucky-Destined. Maybe I should've named you something more promising...
  12. No ideas, huh... :/ Well, besides the CTDs, my adopted daughter will just never move in to my home. And because she won't speak to me, I can't tell her to f--- off, either. Will my save be worse-off if I uninstall Hearthfire? What will happen to my house if I do that? Can I install it later and still find Sophia to adopt her?
  13. I keep CTDing outside Whiterun where, coincidentally, a little girl named Sophia who I adopted from Windhelm keeps running around the outskirts, to my home, and back outside again, always telling me the same thing: "I need to gather my things, I'll meet you at home". Google tells me that nobody in the entire world has ever posted about these particular errors yet, which gives me a sad. :( What can I do about this? I have a lot of mods, but absolutely none that touch anything to do with adoption or player homes. I own Breezehome and nothing else. First home, first adoption.
  14. Apologies for the double-post, but I think I've stumbled across something important. Using the hkxcmd conversion tool, I inspected various skeletons and animations using the Havok Preview tool. And suddenly, I came across something that looks... promising? Behold! http://i.imgur.com/Cyk9SPKl.png (Click for larger view) This animation, sneakwalk_forward.hkx, paired with tailskeleton.hkx has a -90 degree Y rotation on all of its bones. I know this because I compared it to other animations, which all point those green lines (the Y axis) upwards from the grid; in this animation, it points to the left, exactly how the bug shows itself ingame! And now... I have absolutely no idea how to fix it. The animation refuses to load in Nifskope, stating: "couldn't find the animation's root node (TailExport01)". I tried editing "TailExport01" to "Spn01" or "Plv" but neither of these worked. I don't know what root node it's looking for. Once again, I am at an impass. But progress is progress... And I'm still holding out hope that someone knowledgable in such matters stumbles across this and understands all of my crazy ranting. ;)
  15. Thank you for your suggestions. I tested them just now. I replaced the following files with their male equivilents: Data\Meshes\actors\character\character assets\femaletailargonian.nif Data\Meshes\actors\character\character assets female\skeletonbeast_female.nif The tail still turned sideways during sneak walk forward. Edit: As the screenshot may not be very clear, I am recording a demonstration video. While recording, I also remembered that the same tail-twist occurs during the transition from sneak-running to sneak-idle. I daresay the effect is even more pronounced then, and you will clearly see what I mean in the footage. I'll post the link ASAP! Edit again: Please ignore the texture error, this happened as a result of replacing those files mentioned above, and I forgot to change them back before I recorded. :P
  16. It doesn't, but that doesn't get me anywhere... I don't know if I should be editing KFs, HKXs, skeletons, animations, nodes, or what. This is a two-year quest for me, so rest assured I have spent many, maaaaany long sleepless nights banging my head against the problem. :)
  17. Hi all, I'm looking for a fix to the annoying 90-degree twist bug that occurs to Argonian female characters when walking in Sneak mode. This bug has existed since Skyrim was released. http://i.imgur.com/Ehtan.jpg Video demonstration: I'm willing to fix it myself, but lack the know-how. I've tried investigating various KF files in nifskope, and even went on a long quest involving several threads over at the nifskope forums, trying to edit the tail meshes directly. All of this was fruitless, and riddled with weird bugs and problems I couldn't overcome with the limitations of the plugins offered for Maya. I know it's fixable, but nobody else has tried, and I don't know what I'm doing. :/ In all of the Nexus, I've seen only one mod mention they "may" have fixed it. Unfortunately, that turned out to not be the case. I'm certain it's a matter of one or two little nifskope edits. There's one little value out there, somewhere, that says "90" when it should say "0". Or something. If only someone who knew what they were doing would take a quick look and tell me what to change, then I'll be eternally grateful to that person. It would finally eliminate of my biggest Skyrim pet peeves. And if you'd rather not upload a mod for it, I'll do that, too, and give you full credit. I know there's other people who find this as annoying as I do! Well, thanks for reading, if anyone does. <3
  18. Hmm... this is a shame to hear. But I suppose he has every right to do with his file as he sees fit. I was actually helping him root out translation issues the day before it all disappeared. Some people just hate the debugging process, I suppose. I totally understand why though; it's the most tedius aspect of the mod creation process.
  19. Um... did you post to the correct topic, Alecu? x) I'm not sure what you're saying, but the issue was simply that I had not set the import settings correctly. The skeleton was fine- it was the kf (animation) files that were triggering the error.
  20. An odd issue I've noticed, and unfortuantely I have no idea how long this has affected my game because I didn't have any torches to use until quite recently. Whenever I equip a torch, I stop being able to move. I can only look up and down, not left or right. When I Jump, my character gets 'unstuck' and I can continue as normal. When equipping a torch on horseback, my character stands up on the saddle until I put the torch away. Also, sometimes when I unequip the torch, the torch will disappear, but my hand will remain in the 'raised' position and I still cannot move. I've tried disabling the mods I thought might be causing this (Auto Unequip Arrows, and Torches for Realistic Lighting), but that didn't fix it. Any ideas? These are my mods (in this exact order):
  21. Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out! The problem was that I didn't import the files using the 'box' icon. (These: http://niftools.sourceforge.net/w/images/7/70/Maya_config_boxes.gif) Once I did that, I could set the import options correctly and was able to import my skeleton.nif and animation kf successfully. An important tip for anyone reading: You have to change the node name to "NPC" rather than "Bip", otherwise it won't import. ----------- (Old post text) I can't import kfs-- I just get the error message "Unrecognized File Type". The plugin is activated, I have the NifTools menu in my UI, and I've converted the files using khxcmd. I'm using NifTranslator-0.7-Beta4 and Maya2012 x64. Is there a later release of NifTranslator I should get, or am I doing something wrong? I've read the threads here and I feel a bit lost as to which versions are supposed to be up-to-date or working with this version of Maya. Some clarification would be much appreciated by my frazzled brain. :) Many thanks!
  22. I had this issue on my old NVidia 9800GT rig and I still have it on my new, completely different 6850HD rig. The problem: stripey outdoor shadows. Surely someone else suffers this. This is such a source of frustration to me. I can boost my settings, up my shadow resolutions and even apply mods that purport to fix such problems, but nothing has worked. This is unbearable to me: http://i.imgur.com/Muz0g.jpg I already have: Fix Shadows - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=148 City Houses Light and Shadows Fix - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9426 Jumping Shadows Fix - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=6040 I have also tweaked my ini settings using advice from "Improved New Skyrim Shadows for Medium Range PCs" (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=283). Untweaked or tweaked settings, low or high, vanilla or modded; it's always there. If there is aaaaaaaany fix for this, I would be eternally grateful to learn of it, because I've searched extensively.
  23. These major events would have to be incorporated into TES lore, regardless of whether the player wanted to get involved or not. That is why Bethesda are careful not to 'over-do' it. It's not just about giving players extra DLC to play; they have to very seriously consider the continuity of the story/world they're telling/creating. You can't just willy-nilly make up new adventures for the heck of it, otherwise the lore will start to get very tangled and crammed.
  24. First time I've ever seen this happen in any game. For me, it happens indoors and out, and I see it most prominently on rocks. Ugly as all hell. GeForce 9800GT
  25. Well if we can't find an answer by the time the Kit comes out, we'll surely be able to fix it then. Here's what I'm thinking: whatever script/setting dictates the strength/effectiveness of Archery as a player skill, we should be able to mod it so that the only thing that increases is Damage, not 'Accuracy'. *Edit: typo
