  1. Please move this if it's in the wrong forum. I have to say, Nexus has improved my gaming experience across most of my favorite PC games. I have a lot of issues with vanilla Fallout 3, but the *amazing* work done by the FWE people makes it one of my favorite and most fun games to play. I am *astounded* by the Oblivion mods that overhaul entire cities and moved by the mods across many games where people have come together to make full quests-- sometimes the length of retail products! I'm not so adept at creating content, so this is like magic for me. It amazes me that people across the Nexus sites, from gameworld content producers to people who work on textures and lighting, do such thorough and exhaustive work without expecting money for it. That people put such passion and effort into their hobby, that they're so dedicated to creation is a really moving thing. It proves that gaming is a positive hobby full of bright and talented people. Of course, the people who made this site deserve praise, too. I remember messing up multiple installations and having to reinstall Fo3 and Oblivion because I was bad at load orders and file placement when I was younger, so the NMM is a wonderful -and easily accessable- tool. The layout of the sites is attractive, crisp, and easy to navigate. Once again, thank you Nexus community! It's really amazing how much great work has been put into these games and how much imagination and determination the community shows.
  2. I just did a clean reinstall of Skyrim and reinstalled SKSE and NMM as well. Now when I try starting the game, it starts up in windowed mode, plays the opening cinematic, then promptly shuts down. No error message is displayed. I tried reinstalling SKSE manually, but that did not help. What am I doing wrong? Please let me know if I should provide any other information. Thank you in advance for any help.
  3. http://i2.listal.com/image/148289/600full-i-know-what-you-did-last-summer-photo.jpg Anybody remember waiting for Skyrim dlc announcements? I was watching "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and the killer wrote "soon" on this girl's mirror, implying he was going to kill her soon. For some reason I thought, "if the killer is Todd Howard, don't worry; you probably have a couple months to live." Just had to share that.
  4. Hello. I was playing through Skyrim with the Ancient Falmer Armor -my favorite suit- and couldn't help but notice the somewhat muddy textures juxtaposed with the HD textures of the game. I was wondering whether or not anybody could please clean up the textures for this suit and make them a little crisper? I know that not everybody owns Dawnguard, but I think these would be appreciated by plenty of people. Thank you for considering this post!
  5. First off, let me clarify: I am not by any stretch of the imagination condemning those who chose to install "girlie" mods in thier games. I am not with this post trying to take any moral high ground or make any sort of ad hominem attacks towards other members of the community. I understand that as individuals you have the right to modify a product that you've purchased in any way you see fit, and that I have no say in what you do with your private property. I do, however, feel like I need to speak up about something I find somewhat disturbing in the modding community, which is to say the crass hypersexuality that seems ubiquitous among this game's player-generated content. Now, I've been on the Nexus websites for years now and have seen mods of this variety the entire time, so I understand that it's nothing new; however, that doesn't mean that it's necessarily okay. I was just browsing the gameplay effects and changes section of the Skyrim Nexus, when I saw a mod that turned literally every woman in the game into a supermodel, replete with luridly skimpy clothing and inhumanly massive breasts (I'll just leave unmentioned that the preponderance of *real* supermodels could never have breasts of those size because they're all required to keep their bodies as stick-thin as inhumanly possible) and found it rather disturbing. The base game of Skyrim does a better job than most contemporary games in putting women on equal footing with men: in the game-world, they are allowed to do the same jobs; the character creator provides the same 'weight' options for them as it does for men; women are not portrayed as flirtatious objects for the player-character to control. I find all of these staples of Skyrim's writing admirable. That said, the most important thing Skyrim does for gender and videogames is that it portrays ugly women. This fact may sound irrelevant or strange, but believe me, it is. The majority of games, it seems, must have all their female characters have supermodel looks and perfect bodies so that men can ogle them while they play: we see this sort of characterization in everything from First Person Shooters to Japanese RPGs, with the latter perhaps a bit more flagrant of an offender than the former. Skyrim -and indeed the Elder Scrolls franchise in general (from Morrowind on)- generally avoids these chauvenistic conventions. And now modders have felt the need to take that step forward and drag us several steps backwards. No, I am not homosexual and yes I appreciate the female form. What I do not appreciate is how mods like this reinforce highly negative and destructive ideas about women. I won't even go into the fact that a woman can't possible weigh 90 lbs and have H-cup breasts without her spine breaking. These sort of things are just wrong on principal. Many female characters in the game are not at all sexual beings -much like their male counterparts- and should stay that way. Now, I could understand -for the sake of being reasonable- if one wanted to increase the voluptuousness of the game's barmaid characters; it would make sense for those ones to be more sexually overt. What bothers me is that this sort of user generated content implies that *all* women should be that to men. I know I'll get "it's just a game" responses from this, but to counter that assertion, I say this: when you consume media, your brain takes in the images and stores them subconsciously. Whether you actively think sexist thoughts while playing a game with content such as this or not, your mind is subconsciously making the connection between females and sexuality. Subtly, you may be persuading yourself through this media that what is portrayed in it is the ideal, when in fact it is not. Again, I would like to emphasize that I don't look down on the people who created this mod for their work: I understand that creating a mod that affects the majority of a game's characters is meticulous and grueling work, and commend them for their effort. What I don't commend them for is the message that they are (most likely unintentionally) spreading. I would also like to conclude by saying that no two people are alike: there are plenty of gamers who, I'm sure, choose to consume this sort of player-generated content and still are perfectly able to separate fantasy from reality, and that's great. I truly am not trying to malign any member of this community, but rather I just wanted to express my concern at the sort of negative attitudes that content like this may or may not be spreading. Thank you for reading, and I hope to see some civil discussion about this point. Again, I mean no disrespect at all to the people who choose to make or download content like this on a personal level!
  6. So, I just purchased Skyrim on Steam and installed a few mods via the Nexus Mod Manager. For the first hour or so, the game was fine. Then, whenever i started it up, I crashed to the desktop whenever I attempted to load a game from the main menu and received a message saying something about render failure issues. Well, I researched that problem and installed new drivers for my graphics card. Problem solved? NOPE. Now, I keep getting CTDs but without notifications. Could somebody please tell me what I might do to fix this problem? Here are my specifications: 660m GTX 8 GB RAM 2.30 Ghz Quad Core Processor Windows 7 64 Bit Thank you in advance, and let me know if any more information is needed -- I'll answer to the best of my abilities!
  7. Maybe if you were to be forced into working for NCR, but the plotline revolves around a greater conspiracy that I'll flesh out in a later post. I wanted the player's affiliation in the DLC pack to be tied directly to their allegiance in the Mojave Wasteland.
  8. I posted this as a blog on "The Vault" and thought I'd share it here. Well, I love DLC as much as the next man, and I've been thinking about what I would like to see in a content pack. Here's an idea I've been throwing around in my head for a while. Premise: You have been sent to the glistening capital city of the New California Republic for reasons based on which faction you've supported in the game. During your visit, a conspiracy arises to sabotage the city and kill it's entire massive population of over 3,000 people. Depending on your own choices you can attempt to stop this sinister plot or help carry it out. The stakes are high, but then, aren't they always? This content package would begin in one of four ways. 1. Mr. House decides that he needs to establish firm diplomatic relations with NCR and has deigned you, his most trusted employee, to travel to their capital city and establish an embassy. While there, you are to gather data on the NCR and send it back to him while building trust and confidence in New Vegas amongst the most important players of NCR. Mr. House's route requires diplomatic finesse and if you are playing as an INT>4 character, then the quest line will become much more challenging. Accepting to work for House grants an additional perk, "Corporate Officer", which grants a +10 Bonus to Speech and Barter, as well as a +2 Charisma bonus for purposes of Charisma-based dialogue only (e.g. conversations with the Mini-boomers in vanilla New Vegas). 2. Caesar is pleased with your work in favor of his Legion and he has graciously bestowed upon you an opportunity of a lifetime. You are to travel to the capital of NCR and assassinate a Senator and former Ranger chief named "Elise" whose massive donations to the NCR army have kept it alive and strong in the Mojave Wasteland. In exchange for this service, he will grant you a reward of the highest quality, though he has not yet disclosed the nature of that reward to you. Accepting to work for Caesar will grant you the "Master Frumentarius" perk, which the ability to fool ANYBODY in a faction with a disguise (e.g. NCR fatigues can fool rangers and even Kimball) as well as a +5% Critical chance bonus and a bonus of +10 to sneak. 3. If you have Idolized status with the New California Republic, Col. James Hsu will call you to Camp McCarran and inform you that the NCR Senate has deigned to grant you a piece of expensive property in their capital city as a reward for your services to the Republic. Additionally, the NCR Congress wishes to present you personally with a decoration for distinguished service to the Republic. You will have to go there to reap the benefits of your labors. Accepting to travel to NCR and receive your rich spoils will confer the "True Patriot" perk, which grants a 25% discount when dealing with NCR-based companies (e.g Gunrunners) as well as a +20 Speech bonus for purposes of dialogue with NCR non player characters only. 4. Yes Man advises you that you need to gather information on your enemies, and the NCR will likely accept an envoy of Vegas. You must travel there and establish an embassy (this questline is VERY similar to the House questline, but no reporting in: all information is for your own purposes). Accepting to go to NCR as an independent agent will grant the "Rogue Element" perk, which grants a +30 Bonus to Sneak, as well as the same Improved Disguises concept as Legion players will receive. Next, players will need to acquire a means of rapid transportation from the Mojave to California. This transportation is made manifest in the form of a Vertibird. To get the Vertibird, one must raid an Abandoned Enclave Bunker and find the vehicle in an old, out-of-commission condition. To repair the vehicle, they must either pass a science/repair check, obtain the needed components from the Brotherhood of Steel obtain the parts from the 'bird in the Remnants' bunker, or pay a mechanic a good sum of money to fix it for you. Then you must return to the person for whom you are working, and they will provide a pilot for you. Return to the vertibird with the pilot and take off. Then, sleep through a rather long flight. When you wake up, you are just outside the city. Your pilot tells you that it isn't safe to fly any closer, and that you'll have to walk the rest of the distance. Before you, a vast walled city sprawls out for miles. Unlike the faded, pre-war glory of Vegas, this city is new, the clear product of advanced technology. The buildings, though mostly one or two stories, are clean and the streets are freshly paved. Clearly, NCR is like no city you've seen before. Then again, with the help of the Vault Dweller and the Chosen One, NCR had every reason to succeed. The screen blacks out for a moment, then comes back into focus in front of a military checkpoint, with a large force-field separating the city from the outlying land and farms. You are in a line of people seeking access to the city. As you near the NCR Military Policeman at the gate, your breathing becomes faster... I'll continue the story later, but you get the beginning's overall feel. Next time, I'll discuss some of the locations within the city, like the Vault City/Shi Empire Embassies and the NCR Governmental District. Also, I'll include in this post some of the new equipment I was considering would be included. 1. NCR Civilian Clothes: The NCR is a stable society, and its citizens (the ones fortunate enough to live in the city) can afford new clothes made by NCR clothiers. Clean suits and new casual attire will be included. These things exist by the rationale that the NCR is well established, safe, and has the benefit of technology from the Brotherhood of Steel, as well as ongoing partnerships with the Shi in San Francisco and the people of Vault City. 2. NCR Police Uniforms 3. NCR Police Armor (Think LAPD-style SWAT uniforms) 4. US Army Combat Armor (Armor just like Combat Armor from Fallout 1/Fallout 2) 5. Children of the Cathedral Robes (hard-to-find) 6. M72 Gauss Rifle (and Gauss Pistol): I missed these babies from Fallout 2! 7. Covert Submachine Gun (Silenced MP5) 8. Wattz Laser Weapons (Fallout 1 style laser pistols/rifles) 9. Bowie Knife (More Equipment add-on ideas forthcoming!) I'll try to keep up on this! I would appreciate any and all feedback!
  9. I'm really looking forward to this release. I sincerely hope that Microscoot doesn't dangle the proverbial carrot just out of reach for too long.
  10. The Chairmen say that to you sometimes, though I haven't heard it since I unlocked the high roller suite.
  11. "This guy right here, this is the GUY!" "I heard some people were attacked last night." "Profligates like you belong on a CROSS!" "Find yourself a girl, or a guy, and have some fun." "Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a Nuclear winter." "We won't go quietly, the Legion can count on that." ----- "This guy right here, heard that patrolling the Mojave almost made some profligates wish for a girl, or a guy last night, the Legion can count on that. " Ultimately, it all become one large bled-together amalgam of in-jokes. Ring-a-ding-ding, baby!
  12. Thanks for the feedback! Sorry this is a bit of a necro-thread; however, I just wanted to reply to some of the feedback. 1. The similarities to Fallout 1 were really unintentional. Only now that I've stepped back from the ideas do I see the connections. That said, I feel as if the fact that this game is centered around an overseer whose purpose is to find a new home for his people is rather different a game where you're a simple dweller looking to fix a machine in the vault. The whole experience would be centered more around the competing factions than the Vault as well. Also, there wouldn't be any Master-type person in the game, there would be no similarity whatsoever to the second half of Fallout 1. 2. The Natives who opened the armory are called savages, because that is what the Vault Dwellers see them to be. In reality, the savages have access to some prewar technology, including explosives. Also, the Springfield Armory Tribe would obviously have access to explosives of some kind. 3. I was going for a sort of Last of the Mohicans type feel with this. I wanted it to be Fallout and Post-Apocalyptic, but in a region unexplored, full of terror and a wasteland full of shriveled trees and swamps, rather than sand. The desperation would come with the fact that outside of the urban centres like New Salem where the GECK enhanced community has plenty of resources, there isn't much to go around, so the odd rest-stop or country store would be a valuable scavenging point. 4. EDIT: This hasn't been brought up; however, the Centurions aren't supposed to be like Caesar's Legion at all. Since they are Protestant, they do not speak Latin, nor are they their own society. They are simply soldiers for the Puritans. They speak English and have regular English names (well, regular Puritan names, like 'Jonathan Blackwell' or 'Edward Smythe' or other suitable English names). If anything, they're more like the knights Templar. Their only information about the Romans comes from the Bible, so they don't act Roman at all. Instead, they are very Christian, somewhat like Crusaders. Their existence is also supposed to be ironic, since they don't really fit in with Puritan ideals.
  13. Now, the NCR isn't necessarily all good and the Legion isn't necessarily all evil. If you talk to Caesar about his plans, you'll realize that he isn't looking to destroy everything, but rather to reform a lot of things. Also, the Legion doesn't allow drugs, alcohol, or chems into its land, and that's a good thing. Also, the Followers aren't a New Vegas based institution, so it might make sense only to have a small branch in the New Vegas area. They are really based in California, particularly in Los Angeles, in an area once called the Boneyard.
  14. Caesar's Legion is an awesome faction in concept; however, in execution, it's too weak and laughably shallow in implementation. While modders like CaesarInvictus have done well to beef up the Legion's strength, there is only so much modders can do, especially with New Vegas so early in its life cycle. Therefore, I've come up with this wish-list of ideal Legion Improvements. Comments, criticisms, and suggestions are welcome! 1. Divide the map geographically to represent the schism between NCR and Legion land. In New Vegas, the New California Republic has way too much territory for there to be a balanced view of the Legion and NCR. I think that if we were to split the map into 2/5 NCR Territory, 2/5 Legion Territory and 1/5 New Vegas territory, then we could get a more fair view of the factions. Both the NCR and Legion would have a small settlement or two where civilians live. There, we could see what it's like to be a citizen of either faction. We could get hard evidence of the pros and cons of the two factions instead of just NPC rumors. For instance, the NCR territory might be slave free and have gender equality, but it would also be dangerous, poorly managed and burdened with taxes, as well as having the rich profit shamelessly at the expense of the poor. Conversely, the Legion settlement might have slaves, patriarchal values, and brutal means of justice, but it might also be very safe, fair to merchants, and free of poverty, chems, prostitutes and the like. This way, we could see more of the Legion and the player would be forced to realize that they aren't "uber evilzorz!!!@2121!!!" (I use that phrase satirically...) 2. Make the soldiers stronger and more diverse, and change their clothes up a bit. As much as I love the Roman Empire, I acknowledge that the Legion cannot be an exact copy of Roman civilization. That said, the Legion should have a stronger army. The troops should have access to better armor and equipment. I know that Gladii, Pila, and Scuta have already been (very well) crafted by modders, and I think that's great. That said, I think that chainmail and Caesar-era helmets (Coolus-pattern helmets) should be added to the Legion's equipment roster, perhaps in elite squadrons, or perhaps only to Legate Lanius' soldiers. Also, the Praetorian Guards should have nicer, cleaner clothing, since they are Caesar's personal guards, and therefore deserve the best equipment. This addition of Roman-style armor would be welcome to the game. Also, pants should find their way onto the Legionaries occasionally. I touched upon this briefly, but I think that heavy squadrons of Legionaries should be added to the game to make the Legion more worthwhile to side with, and to increase challenge for NCR players. Caesar's best men should be equipped with chain guns, rocket launchers and Super-Sledges. Of course, if these weapons are added to the Legion, the presence of NCR Heavy Troopers should be increased to make things fair... 3. Have a merchant to balance out the Hoover Dam Quartermaster with insane amounts of ammo! So, if you play as NCR, you get access to the Hoover Dam Quartermaster, who has incredible stockpiles of ammunition. The Legion should have an "Endgame Merchant" like this guy, too. 4. Go into more detail with Vulpes Inculta and the Frumentarii. This guy was awesome to begin, but then turned boring as the game went on. There is no reason for such a decline in detail for a man so devilishly talented and evil as Vulpes Inculta! Rather, there should be more Frumentarii quests that involve infiltrating New Vegas and NCR land to sabotage them and their efforts. These quests could be spectacularly fun and well written, and perhaps, one could even get Vulpes as a companion. He could also teach you how to disguise yourself better, since you will be in hostile territory so much. 5. Become Caesar's Legate! If you pass certain checks, you should be able to convince Caesar that you are more worthy to be Legate. From there, you would have to duel the Legate one-on-one. If you defeat him, you get to become Legate, pick a Latin name (like we were able to choose Crime Family names in New Reno in Fallout 2), and pick you own Legate Armor. Then, you could call squadrons of Legionaries to your aid in battle. The only down-side to being the Legate is that it automatically disallows you from entering New Vegas or NCR territory without getting attacked on sight. Again, please tell me what you think!
  15. Yes, I love the DeviantArt picture. It's very reminiscent of Roman armor, and would give the Legion an epic feel, rather than an evil one. Really, they aren't as evil as people say, and if they looked more like the Brotherhood and less like those gay bikers from the Road Warrior, then we'd be good.
