  1. Things skyrim forgot: That athletic characters can run faster than non-athletic characters....... Not everyone wants to be Achilles, the super studious mage...... Miyagi say, best defense no get hit. Athletic chars dodge better than non athletic chars......
  2. Unless I am missing something in the question, necromancy is a popular wizard playstyle in RPGs for many and having that option in a game which features wizardry seems to make sense.
  3. Don't move folders. Just modify the .ini files like was said and uncheck the .esp. The Bethesda HD pack is in a .bsa format and is not in the texture folder. If you make the game load them like that there is no conflict with any textures in your texture folder.
  4. I think for NEW items that are imported the textures work, but for existing items that you just put a new texture over(body, weapon, armor, monster, etc) it will not work. Also, are you sure you are not looking at a new HD texture that Beth gave you?? The difference between bethesda HD textures and user HD textures would not be as big as old textures to either HD texture pack.
  5. Too much from Skyrim(Mage/Warrior/Rogue) and not enough from Oblivion(Assassin/Acrobat/Adept/etc).
  6. It means hopefully a lot of the clutter will be cleaned up from Nexus as those mods are hosted on Steam. Nothing really serious or "must have" has shown up as Workshop exclusive yet so time will tell if/when that happens. The fiasco with the initial DLC screwing up any previous texture mods does not offer much in the way of confidence that SW will be able to deal with any kind of conflict or load order.
  7. The only issue is that if you don't use a workaround, all of your textures will be disabled with the 2 .esps checked. I mean all of them. So I just did like was mentioned above and fiddled with the .ini and get the best of both worlds.
  8. If you could add an alternate style of fighting with some craftable staves(and thus lootable from the enemies) that would be outstanding. I could get behind a martial artist/monk mod using alteration if the spells had the right "flavor" text.
  9. Ah, but I'm liking this. It's better for how I imagine things. Why shouldn't a character be able to pick up a bow just because they use magic? Skyrim allows it but with a nice leveling aspect, so that using a bow won't do much until after you practice with it. You still only get good at the things you practice a lot with. Why I prefer a hybrid of what we had in Oblivion with what we have in Skyrim. The perks system is great(even if some of the individual perks are lackluster) but Skyrim as is seems to be without the flavor of what the class system or attributes added. (Oblivion or Morrowind you could still pick up a bow later if you wanted, it just was not a primary skill that leveled you up, and would not be an issue in Skyrim) Think about a great steak without any condiments/seasoning. Sure, you still have a great steak, but the nuance that comes from various marinades and spices are absent.
  10. Same. Haven't had any issues since the 1.4 update.
  11. Depending on how broad you want to make the strokes: You have 1 class: Hero or Dovahkin Then break it down into : Battlemage, Ranger, Warrior, Rogue, Mage Where you take it further from that is just a matter of semantics and how much imagination you can put into a computer game.
  12. Any good monk uses avoidance for defense and at least at this time there is no way to be more agile/dodgy than the next guy. Perhaps a nice mod will come in from the CK that somehow creates a mechanic to base an actual unarmored defense.....
  13. If a mod is uploaded to the workshop and Steam claims ownership/sells it what would that do to the same mod hosted elsewhere?? I realize this is all speculation but I know several folks will upload to both. I would hate for Steam to claim copyrights and force it to be removed from the Nexus. Which if they are making money from Mod X I see no reason to believe they would allow it to be uploaded elsewhere.
  14. I doubt it, not the way he worded it. Would be good and bad if so, though. Bad that PC users have to wait, good that we know it's on the way. Unless it's an unlocking from Steam, there really isn't anything else it could be. At least for PC users.
  15. This is nothing compared to Fallout New Vegas. Now there is one F-ed up game. Skyrim is sweet relief compared to that unholy mess. Yet from a logistical perspective, Oblivion is sweet Relief compared to the unholy mess of Skyrim. It's all perspective.
  16. I have observed the more flowery remarks for Steam have come from those who also share flowery remarks for Skyrim. Never seen someone who hates Skyrim like Steam. Not saying it can't happen, but i haven't observed it.
  17. The surprise is the first DLC which is XBox exclusive for a month heh. Irony as the beginning of the sentence refers to PC users.
  18. There is actually a much, MUCH greater ability to create a unique character in Skyrim than there was in Oblivion, despite diminished number of skills. Both games maintain the ability to level all your skills (and in Oblivion, stats) to 100 with some degree of work. However, while in Oblivion every character who is 100 in everything will be the same, in Skyrim thats not a certianty. With 80 (or is it 81?) perk points and over 200 possible choices, you get uniqueness. I do lament the loss of some skills, Atheletics and Acrobatics being two of them (Simply for mobility reasons) but saying that they stripped away more ways to create a unique character is utterly false. Right, this is why the implementation of the perks would have made the ultimate experience had they kept the "fitness" skills. They got a lot right with the perk system(even if some of the individual perks are flawed). It allows for nice customization in the early levels and great customization(meaning differentiation between different styles of characters) in the late levels. Oblivion allowed better customization at the early levels but as has been said, eventually you could get everything to 100 and the game suffered at the end.
  19. I would actually be interested in two things: First, I would be interested in a proper title to let folks know what is inside the thread. And Second, I would be interested in everything that's actually in this thread.
  20. The issue with Steam requiring lots of unnecessary hoops to jump through to get it where it won't automatically update your game has a lot of folks concerned about more hoop jumping with the CK. Mainly it's a confidence thing, and Steam does not foster much.
  21. I had no problems last night. A couple of instances where the "zoning" time seemed to take a while but no CTDs or anything. I did take out the ScriptDragon stuff and got the updated SkyUI and SKSE.
  22. The problem with that is the same problemw as present in Oblivion and Morrowind, you simply had more skills to manage. Acrobatic and Atheletic skills don't dix the issue, they simply give you more to manage to acheive the same results. Now, if they were turned into Perks, of which you already have to pick and choose, it would make specialization more pronounced. As for Monks, i dispise the whole martial arts dynamic to the core... but i see your point. As i said, the system isn't perfect, and there is lots of room for improvement. Still, its better on the whole than the old one. Two things: First I give you points for at least being able to see past your hatred of the martial arts dynamic and understand how it limits options, most are like "I hated it so good riddance". And Second, I would love to merge the Athletic and Acrobatic skills with Skyrim's perk system so that while you could differentiate yourself in that manner, you can't get it in the round about way that was possible in Oblivion(eventually getting it because you did run your way to 100 eventually, even if it was the last skill to get there). In Skyrim, you can get all skills to 100, but you can't get all the perks for those skills. That was a step in the right direction.
  23. The fact that you could get to 100 in everything in Oblivion and Morrowind was a glaring error but it did go along with Bethesda's idea that you could do whatever you wanted whenever you wanted. But the solution to that was not to remove it all together. I think simply fixing the auto-leveling of NPCs was almost enough to invalidate the need for micromanaging to get +5 to stats upon level up. Of course, the max you could get in Oblivion was 100 in any attribute without buffs so if you start at 50 in one you only get 10 levels of +5 before you were done. Perhaps in a game with 50 levels perhaps you weren't intended to get those +5s everytime. But the auto-level of the world around you made it almost necessary because the monsters would gain stats in a hyper-focused manner that would make your +2 and +3 gains start to lag behind after a few levels. So naturally they fixed that problem. Bethesda then went two steps further and fixed something that no longer needed fixing. And by fixing I mean removing entirely instead of tweaking (I'd rather see them limit gains to a static +3). Edit: And the limiting thing from an RP perspective is in Skyrim a two handed berserker warrior mage is just as fast and can jump as high as an acrobatic ninja(well, at least that's what the character was in Oblivion with similar skillsets minus the two As). And my monk can't even get off the ground because they removed Hand to Hand as a skilled skill.
  24. The savvy folks who know whats up will still find their mods at Nexus. I think the Steam integration actually hurts the lesser populated sites more than this one. I also know you have a sizable portion of the PC playerbase that absolutely hate STEAM and the fact that it's tied in with Skyrim. And for most mods worth having, if they do choose only one upload, it will be nexus over workshop.
  25. Why should athletics/acrobatics be in the game?? Because not everyone can jump or run the same speed. Because it creates another customization path for a faster, more agile character. And it has been in Elder Scrolls since the beginning. Having it in Skyrim with the perks even makes it have MORE sense than previous titles because you can't do it all. You used to be able to have a strong super athlete that was a mage because you could still level up all your skills. In Skyrim, you only have so many perks to choose from. Why shouldn't it be in the game?? Apparently because some found one or both annoying in the same previous titles. So logically, Bethesda goes with the people who found it annoying while stripping away more ways to create a more unique character, even though many of those same people would use it to benefit a character if it were there. Same for Hand to Hand.
