  1. It's me again. Hopefully I get a new job soon and leave everyone in peace :). I'm working on retexturing of all things the Pork'n'Beans can. The texture for the can is part of a much larger picture titled "foodpackaging.dds". As long as I squeeze my new texture into the same place in that larger texture the can gets textured. What I'm wondering is how to tell NifSkope what part of that larger picture to use? If I know that then I should be able to just use the labels independently of the larger picture. I've looking through NifSkope, there is so much information in there, I'm not sure I'd ever figure it out. I will look further for videos and such...
  2. Thanks, that pretty cool because they land better than hitting 'F' but they still all line up in the same orientation. No big deal, I'll just click up some random angles and X, Ys and drop them.
  3. Hello All. Say for example you want to put 10 oddly shaped items in a bin, for example Xander Roots. I'd like to drop a number of them in a crate with randomized (thus more realistic) orientations. In the past when I did something like this I just used MS Excel to generate random numbers for angles and such. I'm hoping there's some hotkey I can hit and bingo . If the screenshot comes through, I'm going to fill the empty bins in the center with harvested plants. Yes, the light royally sucks.
  4. Hey guys thanks for the responses. I think I've gotten GIMP figured out enough so I can use it. The only issue I'm having at this time is getting the normal maps to not make my brick walls look like they are made out of bright shiny copper. I think I have that one licked too though.
  5. Duskwolf, I can fully emphathize with your anxiety issues, mine have recently gotten much worse because I'm unemployed again. Anyway... If I'm thinking of the correct portion of Fallout New Vegas, you are trying to get into the good graces of the Brotherhood and they've sent you on this challenge? There's a cooky ranger that sticks a collar on you? If you make friends with Veronica you can completely bypass that challenge. I've just started relearning to use the GECK so I'm can't be much help there yet. I'm currently working on two mods to get back in practice. Chemist18
  6. I remember solving many problems when I worked on mods back in 2008-2009 but I'm not having much luck figuring them out again. I distinctly remember figuring out about half my problems on my own and the other half by finding various tutorials. I think I'm not looking in the right places, maybe since I turned 50 I've gotten dumber. I KNOW that I have far less patience now than I did five years ago :). I gave up on retexturing one of the kits, I'll use one as it is. But, I want to create a number of small items (probably a large number) in game: For example, In game there is a canned good called PorkNBeans, the texture for which is in the file textures\architecture\urban\FoodPackaging.dds This texture actually holds textures for several items. I have a jpg file containing an old canned milk label that I want to put in this texture file in place of the Pork'n Beans one (I actually have a number of labels I want to use. If I install GIMP so I can read/convert dds files then Corel PaintShop Pro will no longer run (literally)I can't make GIMP do what I want darnitI remember doing this before, open the two files (FoodPackaging.dds as a jpg and the new can label) as layers, cut the Pork'n Beans piece out of the texture, shrink my new label to fill the spot I cut out, combine the layers and save the file with a new name. If you can point me to some useful tutorials great, if not just figure this post is a rant by some frustrated, unemployed, chemist.
  7. It's amazing how much I've forgotten that I don't remember that I knew :). Thanks.
  8. I've done this before but it was way back in 2009. I'm working in GECK/GIMP/ETC, I have a piece of a building I want to get the "original" texture from so I can change it. Static\Dungeons\Industrial\rooms\IndRmSmWall01 Model is listed as Dungeons\Industrial\Rooms\IndRmSmWall01.NIF If I double-click on the Piece in the editor, then select the model, the texture listed is "IndRmSmWall01". I've looked everywhere I know to look to find the texture. I exported all of Textures.bsa and Textures2.bsa. I've also attempted to find it in the texture sets. So, what silly, obvious, thing am I missing?
  9. That sounds like an excellent idea. Actually sounds bigger than what I was thinking :). It's been 200 years since the bombs dropped. After that much time we are still scratching in the dirt for old tin cans? Tin cans that would have been used up (or rusted away) long ago. What I was thinking about was a new "mixed use" structure partially underground. I have ideas for four specialized shops and two manufacturing processes. Of course there would need to be an orphanage. What would the player do? help fend off the Legionhelp fend off the Great Khanscollect the special items needed by the shop ownershelp provide food perhaps?help supply resources for the manufacturing processes which make NEW building materialsnot to mention that the best location I've found for such a community is absolutely infested with radscorpians
  10. Hello All, I've just begun playing FO NV in the past few weeks, haven't finished it yet (keep starting over). I very quickly decided I wanted to do a mod but I haven't touched a mod since 2009 so I don't remember how to do any of it :(. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/7427/? http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/8615/? I know I'm stepping into a community of people that have been making and using mods for FONV for years and I not familiar with what's out there right now. Is there any interest in a "Modular" mod in the community? Establish a general premise, each person has one or more blocks they fill as they see fit within the general premise? Things I'm going to have to figure out: how to extract textures and replace themhow to view models and suchLUA scripts i can figure out easily enoughI have not spent any time looking for any of this information yet; that said, links to the applications I'll need would be helpful.
