UPDATE (Resolved): For the very last time I attempted a re-install of my 388.71 GPU driver - this time (as my very last attempt) checking the "do a clean install" box in the installer window. Not sure why I did not check this box earlier. But this is what resolved it. Merely for testing purposes I did not lock the fps, and am now getting in Whiterun constant 80-90, same in Riften, and in Solitude in some areas even triple fps numbers (where before I was constantly in the 20s). All these on "ultra" BethINI settings with only VSync turned off (as G-Sync is turned on for my monitor).

1. My issue I have played Skyrim (aka Oldrim) and Skyrim SE multiple times, each time a fresh install. The pc was always the same. What was different was the Windows version (earlier W7, now W10), the graphics card (earlier laptop internal GTX 970M, now laptop external GTX 1080Ti), the RAM (formerly 8 GB, now 16 GB), and the monitor (earlier an Asus 27", now an Asus 34" with G-Sync functionality). That said, I always modded the heck out of both Skyrim versions, and never had any general issues (the usual Skyrim hiccups here and there aside, of course). Having abandoned my last Skyrim SE playthrough last year's May, I thought I'd return to that very playthrough and see how everyone's doing these days in Skyrim. Turned out there had been an update of both Skyrim SE itself and of SKSE64, so I ultimately decided to abandon that install and reinstall Skyrim SE completely anew. Unfortunately it turns out that I am now having performance troubles right from the start with that fresh install, no mods whatsoever. My fps - locked via BethINI at 60 - can drop at times to the 20-30 range for no apparent reason (well, there is a reason for sure, I just don't know it). This happens for example when looking down on Whiterun from Dragonsreach, or when arriving in Solitude right after entering town (that low fps is actually prevalent all the time in Solitude). While my rig isn't state of the art, I would assume it is able to display Skyrim SE at least in BethINI "high" settings. 2. My rig GPU: GTX 1080 Ti (driver version: 411.63) CPU: i7-4710HQ @ 2.50 GHz RAM: 16 GB Resolution: 3440 x 1440 Monitor: Asus ROG PG348Q OS: W10 Pro 64 (v1803) 3. My SSE install Skyrim SE 1.5.62 with SKSE64 2.00.12. No mods whatsoever, the masters cleaned per instructions @ https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/12562 The install is on an internal SSD in a folder called C:\Games\Steam\... All W10 gaming settings (gaming bar etc.) are turned off. 4. What I have attempted so far When I say "pretty much everything", I am sure that is not true. But that is what it feels like. I have spent countless hours over the past days in the net and in front of my pc to nail down my issue - to no avail. Here is a list of the remedies I was looking at so far: a.) A couple of fps fixes here on the Nexus and elsewhere in the net. b.) Different settings in the (original) Skyrim launcher, in BethINI, in the "3D Settings" section of the NVIDIA Control Panel as well as in the NVIDIA Profile Inspector under its SSE specific profile. This included especially various combinations of VSync on/off, G-Sync on/off, borderless windowed/fullscreen, godrays on/off, Antialiasing on/off, and ambient occlusion on/off. c.) I also checked an older GPU driver (388.71), as that is the one I have to use for Diablo III (newer ones are giving me issues there). But that older driver doesn't improve things either. d.) Since I am using a laptop, I even tried running it on my internal GTX 970M with the laptop's own screen (i.e. deliberately avoided my external monitor) - even that did not work. I know for sure that this comparably weak laptop internal GPU ran a decently modded Skyrim SE without problems a few years ago. However that was under W7 Pro 64, and with a different monitor. 5. Bottom line My guess is that I am missing a small checkbox or dropdown only which would - at least in a non-modded Skyrim SE - give me a stable, decent fps around 50. If anyone ever had a similar issue with a fresh install ... and was able to fix it ... I would be more than happy to hear recommendations. Thanks in advance!

It is a bug, that is for sure. So I would click an object in the cell (say a couple of stones), and then look that ID up via SSEEdit - and take it from there? Thanks again for your helpful reply!
-
@ Baron Of Hell: Do you have an idea how I can identify what mod might cause a missing mesh in a given cell (assuming I am standing in that cell)? Thanks!
-
Congrats - but can you please also leave a brief remark as to what cause you identified - and what fixed it? This will help others probably in the future. Thanks, mate!

If there is no splashing, then the mesh is not being put down to begin with which means something is overwriting that cell. Load up your mods in SSE Edit, filter for conflict loser, then go to that cell in world space. This will tell you what mod is causing the problem and allow you to edit (remove) that part of the mod (which is probably a wild edit). As always, back up the file before editing. I have - yet again - run into the same issue in a completely fresh install: The water mesh is missing, i.e. the river (this time close to Markarth - but also the same issue just outside Whiterun) is cut in half by a section that "shows" floating foam and waves on top - but which, if I run into it, behaves 100% like a dry riverbed, not like a river with water in it. That said: If I filter in SSEEdit on Realistic Water Two for conflict losers, I get a lot of mods ... What exactly do you mean by "go to that cell in world space"? I guess I need to check the cell when Skyrim SE is running first, but how do I do that? And how do I proceed within SSEEdit once I have identified the cell where the problem occurs? Thanks for any insight!

[CTD] Need help with heavily modded game.
cmaesing replied to dkNykita's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim SE
As a brief follow up: QuagaarWarrior is right when stating that the guide I offered here is for Oldrim. That said, I thought that is the one I had always used (just taking care, of course, to use Skyrim SE mods, not Oldrim ones). Turns out that https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2846 is the Skyrim SE guide I always used. I deliberately checked earlier today the installation order of my last stable modded Skyrim SE version from 6m ago: It is very close to this guide. I ended up maxing out the number of mods, incl. several merges, btw - all stable. Given that this guide was last updated 1.5y ago, good care should be taken when opting for certain mods: They might have become obsolete in the meantime, or replaced by other mods. Reading through the detailed descriptions and read me instructions of your mods should have become a habit of yours by this time anyway :-) Sorry for the confusion of those two guides. All the best! -
Help! I Dont know whats breaking my game!
cmaesing replied to trey1027's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim SE
Can only confirm what Algabar said: Huge load orders always require a slow but steady build up. Do not forget to test the game (not just launch, but run around a bit, enter a few buildings or caves, go to ctd prone areas like Riverwood etc) every couple of mods. About half a year ago, I ended up with a maxed out load order (incl. several merges), but all stable. However, that - as stated - took its time. Good luck! -
I am zero an expert re cleaning mods with SSEEDIT. Actually I always steer clearly away from cleaning individual mod files, since I just don't know what I might be doing there. I refer to SSEEDIT only to create a merged patch. That said, I suspect you might have broken sth during that SSEEDIT mod cleaning process. But then again - you might not, and the issue is within your plugins. Since you don't yet have too many mods installed, I would simply reinstall Skyrim SE anew, and reinstall a couple of mods (without touching them in SSEEDIT) - and see where that takes you. Also, as QuagaarWarrior has said: You should probably only have one of the "more gold" esps ticked (the others deactivated; am not using that mod, but seems there are different multipliers it offers during the install). While it might not be the culprit, it is definitely worth a shot.

[CTD] Need help with heavily modded game.
cmaesing replied to dkNykita's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim SE
As a reference point, I can recommend the modding guide @ https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76373 While you might not need or want each mod listed there, I view it as a great overall guidance re careful and cautious modding. I refer to it whenever re-modding a clean install, and it has never failed me. As ZeroAndOne pointed out, you might want to download one of the clean, post Helgen savegames here on the Nexus. See the category https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/categories/43/ ... https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/7443 seems like a good starting point. Finally, if you (like myself) do not like fast travel - make at least use of it during the testing phase. Also, don't forget to unhide all locations whenever testing via the console command "tmm 1". That way you can easily test visit a few locations, enter and exit a couple of buildings and caves, run around a bit etc. The works. Happy to assist if you are running into any particular issue. -
[CTD] Need help with heavily modded game.
cmaesing replied to dkNykita's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim SE
Ok, while I am not an expert in modding, what has helped me in the past is 1. to only start adding mods once you get out of Helgen, and 2. to add a few at a time, then test your game in multiple locations - and then proceed to add further mods. This does not help you with your current issue, but it might make it easier for future modding. I do manage to max out the number of mods usually (incl. merges), but that takes its time for testing while activating them one after another. Sorry, mate, but that is all I can add for now. Good luck! -
Arkngthamz - exit load screen crash to desktop
cmaesing replied to Homeplace's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim SE
You might want to try disabling Sounds of Skyrim (SoS) and then try again. Not saying this is the culprit. But I once had a similar issue when walking around somewhere, and my game would always crash when proceeding beyond a certain point. Disabling SoS helped me back then (although I until today do not know what exactly caused those CTDs). Also, Birds of Skyrim is (or at least used to be) rather buggy. That would be my 2nd shot. All the best! -
I remember having had the same issue in Oldrim a few years ago. Cannot remember how I got it resolved, though ... That said, I am sure there IS a remedy. Reinstalling your weather related mods (from top to bottom as per your load order) might be a start. Good luck!
-
Thanks for the solution! I just came across the exact same issue. If anyone needs quick guidance: 1. Enter "Customize or Reset Better Vampires Mod" under "Powers" (Magic sub-menu). 2. Continue clicking "NEXT" until you arrive at screen "15. SUN VISUAL EFFECTS" 3. Check "No" 4. Confirm with "DONE" Cheers mates!

As the title says. Since yesterday (so guess after the latest update) I am having this strange issue that my savegame will load - but with a black screen (hud active, though ... can see npc names, hear them talk, background sounds etc - just the screen is pitch black). This can happen randomly (a) on a reload after dying, (b) after entering a building, © fast loading a quicksave, or (d) fast travel. I should say that this happens both ... - with the latest exe (v1.5.23), and - with v1.15.3 as launched via SKSE64 v2.0.4 alpha. - I have not tested this with v1.15.16 via SKSE64 v2.0.5 alpha, as - for some strange reason - that combination CTDs me before even arriving at the main menu. I know the ini files were overwritten with that update - and I have tried to reinstate them as much as I could. Also have tempered with my Nvidia and other settings - to no avail. I have checked Daddy Google and a couple of forums. Some solutions suggest to turn autosave on (which I had turned off), but that also didn't help. Also cleaning my latest save with Fallrim Tools hasn't changed anything. It might - what I don't hope - be a bad save in the end. But I hope it has sth to do with the v1.15.23 update (and possibly the fact that due to my mods, I should wait for the related SKSE64 to be released ... most likely v2.00.06). Thanks for any insight! ===== 2 example pics attached. =====

The workaround is - if you are using SkyUI - to disable via MCM the "Graht-oaks" under the "Races" menu within âBeasts of Tamrielâ.
-
"Beasts of Tamriel" it is ... But haven't been able to find a fix yet. The RefID should have pointed me towards this mod right away: a237d54d ... With the a2 at the beginning being the position of the relevant mod in my load order! If only I had paid better attention. Have posted my bug on the relevant mod page. Cheers gents!

Yian's suggestion is how I was able to identify a couple of mod issues at my end: Check the relevant file in the game folder (if you know which one it could be, that is). See when that file was updated - and check that time against your mod installation time. IF it was a mod that changed the record, you should be able to pinpoint the mod installation time down to within a few minutes (for bigger mods), or even the exact same time (for smaller mods).

I might eventually simply go the standard route for mod issues: Deactivate the one that I think might have caused it ... load a save game where I am close to the issue ... and see if it still appears. Can do that later tonight, and will post my findings here. Have a good day everyone - much appreciate your assistance and support!
-
No, unfortunately (as it might have resolved my issue) not ... But thanks a lot for having checked that mod for me!
-
Hi Yian: No, I don't have any non-Nexus mods installed. The RefIDs is confirmed: Treant = a236e211. I also checked the red triangle RefID, and it came up as a237d54d. Both searches don't return anything via Google - so it might really be a unique issue at my end. Thanks for your time!
-
Ok, so I running Skyrim SE heavily modded, albeit stable so far. Thanks for that. However, I recently came several times across a creature called a treant (RefID a236e211) - and have no idea which mod (or is it vanilla Skyrim SE) adds it to my world. The reason for asking is that I am having the "white exclamation mark in red triangle" bug (obviously a mesh issue), which always appears just in the direct vicinity of the treant itself. Would anyone know what this is? It definitely moves with the treant - but does not attack me. I suspect either one of "Beasts of Tamriel", "Immersive Creatures" or "High Level Enemies" - am still checking the details of those mods. Thanks for any insight - would just like to fix this issue. === Load order below ===
