  1. Invaluable information, thanks for posting and sharing. :thumbs up:
  2. Thanks for posting that info, WhiteWeaselMLAS - I had not seen those instructions before . I think this will help me sort out the 'missing masters' problem I keep getting while creating my bashed patch; my bashed patch keeps calling for masters that aren't part of my LO, even though neither ModOrganizer, LOOT, nor FO3Edit ever flagged them as either required or missing.
  3. The perma rads plagued my game, too. Never did figure out how to solve it.
  4. They've stated before that Nexus doesn't want to be a middleman for the donations; they don't want the responsibility of handling the money. I don't blame them, leave that to the multitude of other services available. I do wish, however, there was a better way for mod authors to post links to whatever payment platform they want to utilizefor donations; I.e. Patreon, PayPal, GoFundMe, etc. Right now it's not very supportive of this, but I think they're considering working on it/improving it.
  5. Yeah, sorry about that, on a mobile device and the title was cut off short. Well, I don't know why it states you have no "usable drives" tho that is a whole other topic for a different forum. You can try a 3rd party program like Piriform's Recuva, which works fairly well for recovering deleted files or wiped partitions. You'll have less luck the longer it's been since deleting it (especially if you've deleted other things and emptied the bin multiple times) or if you've rebooted. I think Easeus has a program called Data Recovery Wizard, as well. Check those out and see if they'll help, otherwise you might be out of luck.
  6. Honestly, I have found BOSS to be more of a pain and a waste of time than helpful. First of all, many of the mods are either not listed by BOSS yet, or have outdated sorting compaired to newer or updated mods. It takes a long time for the BOSS devs to list a mod, or often times it just never gets listed - despite feedback from both mod authors and players alike. My point being, I feel it's unreliable; What's the purpose of having BOSS sort your mods if you then have to manually move them into proper placement for your specific load order anyways? But, tha's just my opinion based on moderate experience. Many people still swear by BOSS and use it nearly religiously.
  7. BOSS can be sort-of useful for seeing incompatibilities or script erros, but I have yet to learn how to use that to improve my load order or "repair" my mods. They (the devs behind BOSS) say that they maintain a fairly thorough list of mods and compatabilities, and yet many of the very popular mods are still not recognised by it - and I have sent them the links and information on many of them many times, over the years... yet they remain unrecognised. So I thinki it's not exactly hilghly dependable a tool as people say it is. Why did you delete those mods; where there errors or incompatibilities?
  8. From a fairly unbiased and 3rd-person perspective, I'm not really sensing hostility towards you specifically; it's just that sometimes the experienced forum elite hold rather hardened opinions and can come off as being a bit blunt and steadfast in their assertions. I've kind of got use to it, through my many questions and brain picking pondering, and I've learned they generally don't typically hold any ill-mannered temperament towards someone they disagree with. Sorry guys, no hard feelings because I love the work you do here, but it's true. Although, of course it's just my observation, I could be wrong. So, let's move on, shall we? I have watched "The Great MasterUpdate Debate" go on, and on, and on, for a number of years now, with opposing sides from many viewpoints, tossing salvos of experiences, varied opinions, knowledgeable input and insight, straight-up guessing, thoughtful musings, general shoulder-shrugging, and deep-rooted hatred and disdain [and I mean DEEP], all bombarded about like mortars across the beaches of Normandy. No side really wins. It's literally torn friendships apart and caused users to abandon ship or get banned. It's a nasty topic to bring up for sure. And it's still in severe contention as to exactly why anyone should or should not use MasterUpdate, or which mods should or should-not be MU'd. New mod users tremble in it's wake, cowering back in uncertainty, undecided on the correct path to take or which side to forge on towards, often waking in cold sweats haunted by the ghastly demons of MasterUpdating. [i've added drama for effect] In my experience, I have tried it a few times and did not like what I saw - not one bit. It totally screwed my Load Order worse than BOSS ever did, and caused FO3 to not even load, or crash consistently at random [i love oxymorons]. Not only was I confused by what it did (even after researching it, and knowing the idea behind it), I feared for the safety and stability of my game. Hence I have chosen to just not do it. I think I've probably read nearly every thread, post, and topic it's mentioned in, and I have no solid idea - no a clue - if I should really be using it or not. So, therefore as stated, I will not use it until there is a very clear-cut, plain-English, NOOB friendly 'FO3Edit: Guide to MasterUpdating' manual explaining precisely HOW to use it, WHEN to use it, AND WHY to use it, along with 100% proof of it's usefulness, what to watch out for when MasterUpdating, and how to spot mods that shouldn't be MU'd; and frankly, because I'm realistic and know people's propensity to not follow through, that just ain't ever gonna happen. Ever. Period. And if anyone makes me eat my words, I'll have them with ketchup on Rye bread.
  9. You have to be careful with FO3MasterUpdate as some mods specify that the should NOT be MasterUpdated - the reason being that the mod author may have specifically created the mod as an .esp for particular things to work correctly. MasterUpdate will also often destroy the carefully arranged LoadOrder you spent time meticulously sorting. So for this reason I have learned to just avoid MasterUpdate; although that could also be because I just don't want to waste the time and add extra frustration. You may want to experiment with it at some place in your sorting/patching sequence.
  10. I actually stopped using BOSS because it would screw up my meticulously personalized load order, and didn't always suggest the best LO anyhow. Every single time I installed something and then ran BOSS I'd have to spend lots of time putting specific mods back to where they needed to go to avoid conflicts; such a pain. @Nihilist87 I do, however, agree with the suggestion of turning off the vanilla autosave in the games settiings - I use the CASM mod (http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/3729//?) instead and it works quite well, and has custom settings to adjust to your tastes. I've been using mods off and on for a few years, and I still haven't quite figured out the best LO every time. Right now I'm currently trying to weed out why my game crashes occasionally when I read Skill books.
  11. Or I am just mistaken and remember it wrong. If the option is available, I almost always choose my own custom locations for content folders and the like, on just about anything I install. I find keeping them in a separate disk or partition from the primary program operation drive just runs better - not to mention keeps the disk space usage down so more programs can fit.
  12. Well, essentially that's exactly what you'll end up doing. It's not as simple as just changing a few things with the click of a mouse, and be back up and running in a few minutes. Changing not only the skins, but all the mechanics and commands will take careful planning and a bit of time. You really have to know what you're doing and take the time to understand what it's doing to the game, or you're break it. Luckily the community here is a sharing and caring group of people, willing to show you exactly how to do it. Good luck in your efforts!
  13. Ok, that's what I was wondering, I couldn't remember.
  14. I don't have a Mods folder or Install Info folder in my New Vegas directory. You will only have those folders IF you have used NMM to install mods -- that's where NMM keeps the mods you download. Actually, that doesn't sound right. Is that where NMM's default is set to save the info? I don't recall that being the case. Did you install your Nexus Mod Manager in the Fallout New Vegas program folder? Yeesh and Yikes. I am not certain, but seems like that could cause problems down the line. I installed the NMM on it's own in my Games hard drive directory. I redirected the NMM game mods directory folder to save on a completely separate hard drive than the game and the actual NMM program. I:\GameBackup\Nexus Mod Manager\Fallout3\Mods I:\GameBackup\Nexus Mod Manager\Fallout3\Install Info All the mods installed and active in the game will also be in the \Fallout New Vegas\data folder; but you shouldn't copy that over, as I'm almost certain doing so could cause issues in the new install. So, as stated, copy and save the Mods and Install Info folders from the Nexus Mod Manager directory location to where-ever you need to be able to access them from - I use an external drive. Then install NMM on your new computer, copy the backups and paste into the new NMM specific game Mods and Install Info directory (overwriting the new empty ones. Make sense?
  15. That would sort of kill the experience and immersion of the game world. Also, wouldn't that sort of be... I dunno, boring? I mean, I agree that it takes a lot of time to explore, search, and gather, but that's the point isn't it? There's no contest, it's just a casual entertainment experience. That's why gaming is a "PASTIME. You don't HAVE to play these games you know. Try non-RPG FPS games that don't have such a complex item collection system. Not trying to be rude, just trying to understand your viewpoint. I believe there are a few PERK mods that give the player gills or some form of underwater breathing. Can't recall which mod has those though. Not sure how similar they are to FNV (haven't played it yet), but I know of two mods that add extra food items; one called FALLOUT FOOD and another called LUALA'S MORE FOOD - but they may not be compatible with FWE or Remastered.
  16. I wondered if that's all it needed. I use Steam and want to install Fallout 3 on my laptop - so I can play while away from home - and was wary about exactly HOW to get it all ported over with the mods, and without breaking things. I was thinking that any custom settings or utilities - like FOSE or Stutter Remover - would also need to be copied over from the Fallout Game install folder. Likewise, backup your Fallout 3 settings folder containing the .ini files as well, and just coy those over. Settings are usually located in; C:\Users\NAME\Documents\my games\Fallout3
  17. lol. No problem. The only way to learn is to read, ask questions, and try for yourself. Indeed I have learned from this. I don't know whatever possessed me to even think I should try to use files that were in a folder marked "Compatibility - Outdated". Still... why are they even there?
  18. That is a problem since there is no esp, it's an esm master file and will not load down below other files, Is this a type (o) ? Which is "They" ? I ask be because in the files header "EVE.esm" ist says this (WJS, Fallout 3 Master Team, Merging done by Tommy(hairylegs222), uploaded by Robert(robert01) which is Remastered as it is now, so there is a history and records I have to this effect. Kitty The (apparently outdated and redundant) compatibility patches from Paradox Ignition; EVE - MMM patch.esp EVE - FWE patch.esp When I read the Remastered ReadMe, and they referred to the EVE compatibility patches being for the Paradox Ignition EVE files, it should have dawned on me that the patches might have been utilized in Remastered. But now I know.
  19. Just for clarity - because I never actually answered your question - I got those from the Paradox Ignition The Mergers presents EVE They were in a folder labeled "Compatibility Patches" The "ReadMe" really doesn't say much about them And then it just provides a LoadOrder that I'm not going to bother listing because it's pretty self explanatory. I currently have them deactivated because of the issues I have had with them; mostly that they continuously refuse to be placed below their requirement master .ESPs - as suggested by the ReadMe. Only once was I somehow able to get them to place properly in the load order (by some miracle, either fixed with a VERY particular activation process, or master updating), but that was short lived. I likewise suspected they were causing conflict crashes when activated along with Blackened, but I cannot be certain.
  20. Also, make sure you don't Master Update Remastered, as it can (will) break it, according to the author. I try to refrain from Master updating at all, unless specifically instructed to do so. Of course, I also have yet to try creating a Merged Patch, because I'm still getting use to it all - even after more than a month playing with mods.
  21. Heh. Same here. All the abrv. terms are easier now having served. It's just a matter of a paying attention, and a conscious effort to "connect the dots" by mentally cross referencing them with known information. It can, and does, cause a headache now and then though. Haze gray and underway!
  22. It seems many of the big "Must Have" mods all say, "Install this last", or "Place lowest in LOrder". So, in your opinion, should Blackened come before or after Fallout Remastered in the Load Order? And if so, Should it be installed last as well?
  23. Well, I got things working. Apparently I had a messy merged file for the EVE - PI Merger, as well as some badly packaged mods leaving Parent folders instead of merging into the Data folder. I had to do a little manual cleaning in there, along with activating the mods in a particular order, and now all is good - so far. I think I will download FOMM though and start using that instead, for a cleaner, more organized, and manageable load.
  24. Yes, I tried BOSS and it didn't 't fix it. It just seems odd that BOSS and NMM insist on placing it above the original MMM .esp files, and won't allow me to manually place them into the right order.
