No good. It still happens. Could there be a damged script or something somewhere?

An odd problem has cropped up. In the Nightcaller Temple Quest, I am able to save pretty much any time up until after I finish the "dreamstep" segment. Once I return to the waking world, however, if I try to save the game I crash. Anyone able to suggest a fix?

I didn't reinstall, true. Maybe I should. I don't have any DLC. I just started with a new character.

Typically when I enter a walled city. Riften, Solitude, Whiterun, etc. Dungeons are fine, small towns are fine. But if I go into a city I might get a few seconds of action and then freeze...or it simply doesn't load up at all and I'm stuck on the loading screen.

Started over with a new character. Freezy...although it was pretty god about not doing it right away. But once I reached Whiterun... Do I have to delete everything and start over?

My game freezes only when I enter a walled city. Everywhere else is fine. I don't have any mods that really affect the cities that don't effect everywhere else. It's kind of odd that it's that specific. Man, I'd hate to have to start all over.

I am also trying to create a follower of a customized race. I have no idea how to do it. I select the race in the Creation Set, make it look they way I want, and then save it. I try to play the game and go into the cell where my new NPC is and the game crashes. I also don't know how to "package" files into a mod as described in this thread. Is there a step-by-step method for this?

Unfortunately no. I still have the same problem.

Ran the BOSS. Still having the same bloody problem: I get the game started, order it to load a file, and the game just stays on the loading screen. The graphics of the screen still move and the little text appears on the screen like it should, but it does not load any of my saved files except one: The very beginning scene of the game. On the rare occasion I've managed to get it to play, whenever my character transitioned from, say, a building to the world, the thing got stuck on the loading screen again. Or it might freeze when I try to improve my weapons. Sometimes if I try to restart quickly I get a message telling me that Steam was unable to "synch" something. Is this at all relevant?

I am interested in trying to create a few books of my own into my game, mostly to see if I can do it. Does anyone have any kind of step-by-step-for-idiots method for creating your own books?

This is odd. It tells me that the Chocolate Elves esm isn't present, but it is. I have the race installed and included the esm that came with the SR file. I moved Shy Rock down at the bottom of the cue by the system still crashes when I try to activate her. Ah, well.

Thank you very much for the reply and the help. I've managed to figure out what mods have been killing my game. The Chocolate Elves companions Shy Rock and Lula Wild...and the player Chocolate Elves esm that came with them. In fact, ANY Chocolate Elf companion causes the problem. I don't suppose there's anything that can help me sort out why that is?

Not a laptop. A home PC. The game runs well without any mods. I'm kind of afraid to add anything now. I have no way of knowing if any of the mods will work or make it crash. Is there any way to figure this out? Alter the load order? Anything?

I did. I put the OBSE loader and other files into the same file as the Oblivion exe. As far as I know thats all I have to do. I have Norton antivirus but I turned it off before I installed anything. I got as far as the title screen before I put in my mods, but afterwards it didn't even get that far. None of my mods conflict as far as I can tell: I ran the game with them on my old system without crashing. But now... I tried to run the BOSS program to see if there was a problem with load order, but all it gives me are error messages, so that's useless. This is really frustrating. I've finally got a computer strong enough to play it with good graphics and now the thing won't run. I've installed and uninstalled it several times now and It all results in the same problem. No explanation or anything.
