I am a mod user and new to the modding world in general, but I have been deeply impressed by the quality of many of the mods offered and I am inspired to learn more about the process of modding for myself. First, I would like to thank those individuals sincerely for their skill, imagination and generosity. I would also want to say how saddened I am by the negative feelings that have been generated by the payment issue. When I first read about the proposed changes, I was worried and conflicted. It seemed reasonable to pay for quality work, but I also understood some of the misgivings expressed on this site and elsewhere, since the modding community was originally created for the free sharing of resources. That being said, it doesn't necessarily mean that such a fundamental change of philosophy is impossible to contemplate given time information and consultation. Despite the outcome, I think the issue should still be discussed rationally since it may be raised again in the future and it might help to alleviate the negative feelings that have been generated. Some issues to consider The quality of the mods available varies from the professional to absolute beginners and from massive complex adventures to tiny mods, given the variance how would the charge for each mod be determined and who would determine whether the amount charged represented a fair cost for the quality of the work provided. (The mods on the workshop varied between £2.00-£5.00. The charges were not exorbitant, but the collective cost if all mods were priced in this range could become very expensive). A free trial period would have been advisable, since one must decide individually whether the charge being levied is reasonable and whether the mod is suitable for other reasons. would payment be required for updates of mods that had already been feely downloaded.I'm sure that are other issues.
