In response to post #17325099. #17331509, #17333589 are all replies on the same post. I'm getting a "There was an error moving your file in to the proper directory on the server. Notify an admin." message myself. Which in many ways is worse.

The only way what your describing should be possible is if the CT version were placed in an override location that were overriding JX's files, and if it's happening with that file then it should be happening with all of them. Incidentally, the above reason is while you really shouldn't have any Mod-specific subfolders within your core override folder at all. All the files in there should either be loose with no subfolders whatsoever or grouped into filetype-specific subfolders, and there should be absolutely no .erf files in there. That ensures that you will only ever have the version of a file active that you want active. The only reason the JX Mod is packed with a subfolder is because I get far, far too many people who don't understand how the DAO override system works and rely on things like Mod Managers to manage their conflictions/installations (which is an absolutely awful idea for this particular game due to the tiered override directories and .erf format), and that subfolder in most situations should ensure the JX files are loaded last. How your installation managed to load CT before JX is something of a mystery, unless you went and re-named the subfolder to something other than "zz_JX Resources" or CT is in a subfolder that comes up even later in alphabetical order. If your directory structure isn't in English, that also might play a part in how the alphabetical order is decided.

Adding a new game to the Nexus (Might & Magic X: Legacy)
Offkorn replied to Offkorn's topic in Site Support
Re-added. -
This game was apparently denied. Is there a particular reason Mods for it are not allowed? Or was it just that the particular Mod I tried to upload was not allowed (a spell effect magnitude tweak)? Considering the game has a Modkit, it can't be due to lack of developer support.

I was having this issue as well. Then, just as I was going to use your fix... it played out naturally. It may be time-of-day based. As in this instance I had waited outside the palace until 8:30 AM (I arrived at 8PM), then when I entered to use the console command the event turned out to have fired on its own.

Blocking files with specific tags from category view
Offkorn replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
In general this is a good idea, however the fact that authors can choose whatever tags they want (regardless of whether they actually fit or not) and the subjectivity of many tags raises some issues. In particular won't work very well due to two things: 1) Mods that have multiple language versions made by the same author. 2) Mods that are 'universal' and thus have all languages checked due to not containing in-game text. Block the 'x' language tag and you block out a bunch of language-neutral gameplay changes or re-textures as well. -
Can't see how this is a good idea. All it does is clutter things up with cross posting and make information more difficult to find by having to follow two threads per Mod rather than one.

Don't know where the instigator lives, but there's currently a lively debate in the USA as to whether DDoS attacks are actually criminal since it can be considered a valid form of protest. Similar in Real Life to picketing a business.

I suppose this is the reason lawyers make so much money. Even when they state something in a straight-forward manner, no one understands it until they hire their own lawyers to translate.

What they actually said was: Note the underlined portions. As Dark0ne said, they have no issue with it but Bethesda has to sign off as well.

Fallout New Vegas Redesigned
Offkorn replied to LordAngelDanger's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Not sure if it's the same Mod or not, but there's a download for a version 1.5 over here. The site is mostly in french. 'Telecharger' = 'Download'. I got a 404 error the first couple of times, but it eventually went through. -
New advanced search filter to sort by usable assets
Offkorn replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
If it was truly 100% your own work, then yes. The vast majority of Mods however require the developer's game to work and are, as such, derivative works that may or may not be (which appears to be what that poster is wondering) subject to the developer's EULA. It's one of the main reasons I never understood why certain Modders are so... vehement about rights issues. If the developer has given 'you' the right to Mod their game, and 'your' Mod would not even exist without their game, then what exactly gives 'you' the right to deny others the right to Mod your Mod? -
New advanced search filter to sort by usable assets
Offkorn replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
"Restricted" means the author actively does not want their resources re-distributed. "Unset" means the author has either abandoned their Mod or does not care whether or not the resources are re-distributed. -
New advanced search filter to sort by usable assets
Offkorn replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
One of the many reasons those options should default to 'unset' rather then 'restricted'. This is basically a redux of when Tags were implemented, except in this case only the author can set permissions. Which is a huge problem for abandoned Mods (of which thee are quite a few). -
Basically this. Modding has always been popular (I personally started with Baldur's Gate), regardless of whether or not the Developers/Publishers supported it. Even games that are "unmoddable" such as Dark Prophet, Mass Effect, or even VtM: Bloodlines have had Mods made for them thanks to the Tool-makers.

New distribution permissions options for all files
Offkorn replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
Why isn't the default settings for these new options "Unspecified"? ---------------------------------- **Disclaimer*** I am well aware that the ToS can be stricter than actual laws, and am not arguing about it in the below part of this post. ***Disclaimer*** Fair Use. Copywrite law focuses on commercial products and redistribution. If money is not being made or lost and/or the entire 'product' is not being redistributed in an unaltered form, Fair Use will usually apply. Yes, actually, it does. I was not talking about Modding with cross-game resources. That can indeed be a breach of copywrite (assuming the Mod doesn't fall under Fair Use). Again; how is that selfish when the resources being used are also a free public Mod? Nothing, actual or theoretical, is being lost by the re-distribution (assuming, again, that proper credit is given). -
New distribution permissions options for all files
Offkorn replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
How exactly is a Modder harmed when their free resources are Modded by someone else (assuming the re-Modder gives them credit)? Do they lose money? No. Do they lose time? No. Do they lose notability? No. Did you have to ask the Publisher/Developer for permission to Mod their game or alter their resources? No, you didn't. Would not expecting others' to have to ask permission to Mod your Mod or alter your resources be the clearly selfish act? Considering that there's not a single valid reason to ever deny someone permission in the first place (spite most certainly should not count). There's no point in requiring it to begin with. Of course, a site's ToS can stipulate almost whatever it wants for any (or no) reason, so there's really not much point in discussing/arguing about it. -
Same issue as Eiries. Used to experience an identical problem on the forums themselves shortly after you re-booted post-hacking.

'Tone' doesn't carry well over text. Let me clarify: I consider that behavior to be ridiculous and overly narcissistic. There's no reason to expand the Updated Recently page when 95% of it is those type of 'updates'... especially since going into a category and sorting by 'Date Updated' will show a new user every file available (along with pictures and descriptions).
-
You could always just make a small change to the description, as EmptyPuppet was doing for awhile, and it will be on the list every day. That said, new players and people returning from hiatuses are far more likely to use (and far better off using)the 'Top Files' and Categories pages sorted by 'downloads' or 'last updated' to find Mods they missed.

Any chance of preventing the Notifications from updating in response to your own posts? Seems a bit odd to notify myself that I just posted in one of my Mod's threads.
-
Indeed, but what is his definition of 'disagree'? Could not saying that you dislike the Mod for whatever reason be seen as disagreement? Does he even have any right to report people he doesn't like? How, exactly, is that any different from those making the 'disagreeable' comments? Quite frankly: His attitude nicely encompasses everything that is wrong with 'Modders'. Sorry to say, but just because you alter some values for someone else's game doesn't make you infallible or mystically immune to criticism. If you do not want "bad" feedback, do not publicly release your Mod. It's quite simple. The world (read: Internet) would be a far better place if more people did that instead of whining because they discovered there's someone out there who doesn't like them. Mod for yourself or for others; not for meaningless positive feedback. Narcissistic Echo Chambers help no one.
-
That was more directed at all the people who are saying "If people talk bad about my Mod (or give it negative endorsements), I'm going to report their comments because I cannot stand any dissenting opinion from my own". The new system allows for negative endorsements without the risk of the negative being removed or the user getting banned for the related comment simply because the Mod's author cannot stand criticism of any sort (and, if that was the case, why did they release a public Mod?). This is an improvement, and will hopefully do something to mitigate the tangible aura of fear pervading this site. Is this new system perfect? Of course not. But it's quite a bit better than the 1-10 system that nearly completely prevented people from rating a Mod anything lower than an 10 for fear of being banned. Just as people are free to post comments like "I loved this Mod! *Endorsement*", they should be free to post comments such as "I didn't like this Mod. *Negative Endorsement*". Negative feedback is what allows you to improve your work, positive feedback is worthless in that regard; "You agree with me? That's great, I agree with me too.".
-
It seems as if people are taking this far, far, too seriously. Why does it matter if you get bad feedback? Why does it matter whether or not someone downloads your free Mod for someone else's game? Are you getting royalties each time someone downloads your Mod and/or a commission for each good rating/endorsement? Because I'm most certainly not. If you're not either, there is absolutely no reason for you to care what others think or say about something you publicly released on a site you don't own. If you only want to hear from people who like your Mod, host it yourself and IP-Ban anyone who doesn't have something positive to say.
