I'd really like to believe someone at Bethesda saw this coming, only for them to be ignored by everyone else. First there was paid mods, now there's this god-awful mess. I shudder to think what they might do next...
In response to post #24736644. #24737469, #24739084, #24739339, #24739754, #24740069, #24740154 are all replies on the same post. This is the internet. HUGE difference.
Don't encourage Valve, please. This whole 'paid mods' thing is gonna go up in smoke, and so will anyone or anything who's had a part in it, and I'd really hate to see this site gone.
Mods are meant to be an expression of love for a game or series. Now Valve and Bethesda are gouging out the community for their own benefit. This 'paid mods' idea WILL NOT survive, because apart from all the free alternatives, people are already pirating Workshop-exlusive paid mods and uploading them for free elsewhere. My only fear is that it'll take the modding community down with it.
I'm laying the blame on Bethesda and Valve here. Sheer greed. And when money comes into something that should represent the love one has for a game or a series, then that thing gets destroyed. Bethesda, Valve, do not fall into the trap that's already consumed EA and Activision.
