Is the nexus down and if so for how long?
falloutreign replied to DishDan's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
yeah same -
That is an interesting idea until you get into magic, a whole new area that... Seeing as magic largely ignores armour mages would become very overpowered very quickly. perhaps if magic does less health damage and more to other attributes i.e shock does 20pts to magicka and 5 points per second to health etc? And it would have to be compatible with deadly dragons. One HUGE feature of a combat overhaul that I would like to see in a mod is that block blocks the majority of magic and the entirety of ice spike damage. Like in the trailer for skyrim with the dragon fight. You'd think hiding behind a metal shield would better against a dragon than hiding behind a flimsy wooden tree. Also armour should come in to play. beinng hit by an ice spike would be devastating when wearing robes but if you have a thick steel skin most of the damage would be absorbed, and when you get into daedric... that stuff should have powerful magical resistance without enchanting. I'd love to see a mod that does this and I'd love to make one. I think this is what you are looking for: Requiem - The Roleplaying Overhaul http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19281/? This. SkyRe does many things well and I used it myself for about a year, however I craved what you did and since switching to Requiem I haven't looked back.

Hrmm, another follower mod that seems to have more personality than most is Inigo and that is entirely through dialogue, might be worth looking into? Don't get me wrong Vilja is definitely one of the best all around companions on nexus and definitely a good mod to use as a base, however imho personality is not one of the strengths of Vilja - I'm sure others will disagree with that statement but still, looking around to see how others do it may be worthwhile. Either way I look forward to see whatever you come up with ^^ -

Before I start testing, is this mod save game friendly or should I start clean slate just in case? -
Vilja is loaded with features but sounds really out of place in skyrim, so I wouldn't really recommend her if you are after immersion. I would recommend Inigo however, an all around excellent follower providing you aren't after a waifu.

Thanks! I would really love to flesh out her personality some and actually already had a little something in mind as a start but what do you mean by act on exactly? Like .. force a conversation to stop you from doing something? The best example I can give is what this mod tried to accomplish: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19348//? It never got finished but in terms of follower characterisation it was one of the best if not the best, you actually felt like your follower wasn't just a glorified pet. So, in terms of other examples: If you do something your follower hates, their disposition with you would decrease and if it decreased far enough it would have consequences. The opposite would also apply, if you do things they like then perhaps they will reward you/be happier. If you come across something/someone your follower hates they may do something about it (nasty words, outright attack etc) likewise if you come across something they like then the opposite. Follower fears etc, many different routes you can take to try and give personality. -

Looks really good so far, excellent voice + responses. Will definitely be following this one. As for suggestions: I would try to add things that make her feel like an individual who has her own personality and doesn't just revolve around what you do, ie things/places/people she likes/hates and will act on (not just comment) -
Going to have to agree with Strig here, while Dwemerverse is a good mod it pales in comparison to Apoc. Personally I didn't mind the grinding for precision tools however I still feel the mod added very little to what apoc did already for the alteration school, and on top of that I actually preferred the visuals of apoc (specifically talon shot) but to each their own.

Mighty Magic has two spells like this already but I haven't tried them. I was hoping for something to take that idea even further. Yes, I can certainly manage that, especially because I did manage it, in Dwemerverse, the mod which no one gave a single s*** about. Good to hear Mighty Magic also has it though. Dwemerverse is one of the better magic mods on nexus, seriously underrated. Unless I am mistaken in order to make his mods cross compatible he uses an external modifier for scaling which is variable, so I can't see it compromising anything.

Skyrim isn't dumbed down. Purists are.
falloutreign replied to Goliath978's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I prefer vanilla Skyrim to oblivion really I do, including the skill and level systems regardless of simplification. Although the lengths they go to nudging players towards the factions and other interesting finds is dumbing down to an extreme; I don't know if anyone can argue that. On the magic system, I don't think its dumbed down at all, I don't think its any easier than its predecessors but I may be a minority here. However I still think its a horrible implementation, lacks any real form of customization and depth. It is also insanely weak compared to any other class type (except against dragons.) -
PC gamers are notoriously hostile towards their favourite titles getting redesigned for consoles, often with good reason. Skyrim did a lot of things much better than their predecessors, melee combat and animations are the main things that come to mind. Other things not so much, look at Morrowind where you had to discover the world and finding things like the thieves guild or the morag tong was slightly challenging and rewarding. Compare that to skyrim where the thieves guild and dark brotherhood are running open recruitment and several quests in the game _force_ you to join the mages guild. What if your playing a warrior for gods sake? This kind of hand holding annoys some people. Skyrim is a beautiful canvas at the moment as others have said before me. The magic system is arguably worse than the predecessors. (its more involving, but far less customisable and a few of the schools are trash.) Seeing this beautiful canvas and not being able to do anything with it because we havn't been given a brush yet can be more than a little frustrating. That and people are generally critical of things they like anyway/

What is the most likely dlc in your opinion?
falloutreign replied to Guy97's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Hopefully something for mages, they seem so weak. If not something for vampires would be good, they seem underdeveloped to me. Or a werewolf faction perhaps? With actual werewolves that use their abilities rather than sit around and whine about it all day. Radiant questing is something that could probably be explored with a bit more depth too. I'm sure modders will be all over that though. -
I wouldn't say its terrible, it works well with sneak. But yeah in straight up combat it has absolutely nothing on sword and shield. Saying that though I think 2h is worse than dual wielding. All the same benefits except no synergy with stealth.

playable without killing a bunch of people?
falloutreign replied to Aluminumfoil's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I would have thought a high level illusion spellcaster could get through most the game without killing anything. (charm/calm/fear/invis) I intend on trying this myself, i'll probably give in and become a mass murderer eventually though xD -
What Has you most excited about Skyrim?
falloutreign replied to KennethKarl's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Randomised quests. Looks fun and if done well will add unprecedented life to factions once you have finished their main quest. -
It would be interesting but I feel as though it wouldn't really fit the theme of skyrim, seems more suited to Akavir. If we were going by which WoD vampires would be most suited to Skyrim i would have to vote for the Gangrel. Although I would love to see the Tzmisce or something similar xD

Your criticizing someone's criticisms is just as off-topic and non-constructive to the thread, and it just goes in a circle. Soon enough half the posts are just about two or more people telling the other that their post isn't useful, but, ironically those saying such a thing are guilty of it. You've had some very valid points, I do not completely disagree with you. But take my reply that you put in quotes into context, you said "This, bethesda is bullshitting when they said they did it for balance reasons. If they wanted to balance it they could simply make it you needed to have steep perk requirements or dual wielding did less damage. They only possible logical reason I can see that dual wield woudn't have block is console limitations. edit: For the post above me, not being able to parry when dual wielding in a single player rpg IS stupid." Some potential validity in the first part of your post, but, it was superfluous. Not to mention the lack of reasoning behind your edit. I suggest that if you have not yet, read the rest of the comments that others have provided when it comes to balance. Consider someone else's point of view, it only stings a little bit. ;) If you're talking about me criticizing your fanboy, there was _nothing_ constructive about his post, it was a blatant flame. I think his post was 100% useless to the topic at hand but if anyone disagrees I am more than willing to try to understand their reasons why. There was reasoning behind my edit, it wasn't as clear as it should have been though, granted; apologies for that. The key word being rpg, trying to roleplay a finesse based character with no parry I feel is rather stupid. I'm not as bigoted as you may think, I have read the majority of the posts in this thread, granted not all. Most the arguments against that I have seen consist of two things, variety and balance. Balance I have already given my views as to why I disagree with it as being a valid reason. Variety is all well and good and I have no problems with it. What I have the concerns for is how interactive dual wield combat will be. So I don't even disagree with half the arguments in this thread. And no it didn't sting, thanks for the concern though :)

If you don't care go elsewhere? Why are you even posting in this thread. Because just like you, I have an opinion and have the right to say it. Why are you even posting in this thread if you'll just complain? It's the complaining about the "balancing" that I mind, but if you mod the game and make dual wielding super strong...then have it your way, it's not my game...so I don't care about that. Have at it. Im posting here because I care about dual wielding and I feel as though defenseless fighting makes for boring gameplay. You are here to voice your opinion and have done nothing but disagree with people and give no valid reasons for your stance. If you were to disagree and provide constructive arguments that is all well and good but from what I have seen so far your stance is "Nah you're wrong, but im not going to argue because i dont care." Makes me wonder why you are here that is all. you haven't backed your your statements either with facts, just saying its stupid isn't a good reason. as for creditability natelovesyou is a far more credible source then you are. he's been here longer and always has something to say that is relevant. what nate is really saying is that you have your own opinion, stop complaining and do whatever you want in your copy of skyrim. as for why he's posting here, its the same as me we both love skyrim, and video games ,and enjoy gaming forums such as this. what i want to know is why YOU are here your a newb, and the majority of your posts are complaints about duel-weilding or arguing with a senior member on the forum. so STFU!! Oh? I said it was stupid and gave quite valid reasons why it is stupid. I will go through them for you. 1) Gameplay. Designing every fight around pure damage with little in the way of defensive abilities and decision making makes for boring fights. Let me elaborate, if every fight is only winnable through overwhelming your enemy through brute force or not giving them the chance to attack back this is not what I call fun, however you may disagree you are entitled to your opinion. Also, bethesda may surprise me and make the power attacks with dual wielding a feature that requires some degree of finesse. But their previous titles leave me doubtful in this regard. 2) Roleplaying: I can't imagine playing a stealthy finesse melee based character without parrying or at the very least some form of dodge. 3) Balance: I don't see how implementing timed parrying would ruin balance in this game. It obviously wouldn't be as good as using a shield but with a few number tweaks on damage and/or a steep perk requirement I fail to see how balance is an issue. On Nate, I am sure he has been here longer than me and i'm sure he has been a valuable asset in the past but how is this constructive: "Then don't dual wield. It's really easy. Or, complain...also an option. Or mod it out and become OP...it's a single player game, what do I care? " I admit to falsely interpreting the "what do I care" part and I apologise for that, but being told not to do something because I don't like it rather than discussing it is rather poor form. And guess what, forums are used for discussion about something and often discussion involves complaints, shocker really. I may be a noob on this forum but that doesn't make my points any less relevant. Also, with Nate being an elder on the forum and all I doubt he needs you riding him in order to defend himself. He's a big boy. edit: I don't see you discussing anything either, did your post have a point other than to tell me not to complain about something im concerned about and not to argue with nate?

Perhaps, but I would argue that having no defense at all is not balanced; it's stupid. The only two possible ways that can work is if either a) the combat is so easy that simple button mashing can overwhelm enemies, possibly interrupting their attacks, or b) you can cheese your way through fights with dual paralysis enchanted weapons or similar game breaking exploits. Barring those two options, there needs to be some sort of defense, as "hope you trained your Restoration or Alchemy skill" isn't much of a substitute. This, bethesda is bullshitting when they said they did it for balance reasons. If they wanted to balance it they could simply make it you needed to have steep perk requirements or dual wielding did less damage. They only possible logical reason I can see that dual wield woudn't have block is console limitations. edit: For the post above me, not being able to parry when dual wielding in a single player rpg IS stupid.

If they are going for the realistic approach they won't need any "animations." -
