  1. He's using texture packs including WATER as well as an overhaul of Whiterun called Beautiful Whiterun (IIRC, it's got ugly blue roofs but it replaces most vanilla textures in Whiterun with HD ones). He's also using an older version of Superb ENB RL which is the top rated ENB on the nexus; from personal experience it gives me more of a performance hit than ENB's that have SSAO and Bokeh DOF enabled. Granted he does have some features turned off, but he is recording with Fraps after all. I also found this quick video of the memory usage of a 3GB 7970 running Skyrim at 2560 x 1440 on the Ultra preset; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpPRtpMFvzI I'd like to see more info on this topic though as I can't find anything definitive either.
  2. Farengar's voice actor is atrocious imho. He just sounds like a guy reading from a script, he's completely monotonous and emotionless like some sort of Nordic robot.
  3. 1280 x 960, considering dropping to 1152 x 864 or something though - I have to make some sacrifices to make sure my gpu doesn't explode with all the mods I was using. How do you intend to run the game? As in what resolution etc? Have a look around Youtube, there are 1440p clips of people running around in Skyrim with what looks like some pretty hefty mods (this guy's game looks ridiculous but that's beside the point :P). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giAVXHPmoAc
  4. 'The most fearsome of their kind, Internet Trolls are found in the Mountain ridges and Northern Sections of the internet. All trolls regenerate health quickly, turning a small fight into a drawn out battle for your life, but all trolls are also vulnerable to fire. Burn wounds don't heal as quickly as other wounds inflicted on the trolls and gives destruction mages an edge when fighting them.'
  5. I don't think there is a limit - haven't got any proof of that but still. I have a GTX 460 with 750mb of RAM, over 115 mods installed (many of them graphical - lots of high quality graphics replacers, official HD texture packs, an ENB etc) and my game runs stable at 40 fps outdoors and 60 indoors (I have an unresolved crashing issue that only appeared yesterday - not sure what's causing that - could be VRAM but regardless it proves that 4 GB of Vram is more than enough). I can't see this game eating 5 GB of VRAM unless you go absolutely nuts with the graphical mods. I was looking around on Tom's Hardware forums about this and found a quote that sums it up pretty will; 'Skyrim doesn't need more than about 2-3 GB of vram, regardless of how much it will fill.'
  6. Have you capped your Fps? Skyrim's physics can go mental above 60fps
  7. So for seemingly no reason my Skyrim has decided to crash to desktop without any form of error message when I kill an enemy with a power attack. This doesn't happen every time I kill an enemy with a power attack - I can play for hours with no issues, but power attacks arbitrarily cause the game to crash. I have searched around on Google and used the filter on the iste but I couldn't find this precise issue. I have 115 mods installed (many of these plugins are just multiple ESPs for the same mod, like SkyRe and, UFO, RND etc) and I personally singled out ones I thought could be causing this issue but I can't seem to pin point it. At first I thought it was a mod called Deadly Mutilation but I removed that and the issue seems to persist. I'm thinking it's just a VRAM issue but I am not tech savvy at all so I couldn't confirm that - I don't know whether this issue is indicative of a VRAM problem. Here's my mod list; As you can see i'm using quite a few graphical mods (I am using an ENB too) so this makes me think it's a VRAM issue especially considering my GPU is only a 460 with 750 something mb of VRAM. Aside from this issue my game seems perfectly stable, running at a constant 40 fps (50 - 60 indoors). It is strange though how it just suddenly started happening yesterday (I thought it was a one off at first - it's only today that i've noticed it's persistence and tested it). I can't think of any mods I might've installed that would change that but here are some of the more recent installs; Flowing Cape.esp (today)BoundArmors.esp (today)HothFollower.esp (yesterday)Spells Cast Light (today)SkaalHeavyArmor.esp (today) Specs: 8GB RAMi7 2600k @ 3.4 GhzGeForce GTX 460 Thanks in advance.
  8. So about an hour ago Fallout 3 decided it wanted to kill itself. It was working fine earlier. The only mods i've installed since then are iHud and Impervious power armor. I've double checked my load order and disabled everything except for Fallout3.esm, i've tried launching through steam too, but my game just crashes after the 'please stand by' part. I'm pretty stumped, any help would be appreciated. 9. As the title says; Enhanced Lights and FX appears to have been hidden by the author. Anybody else able to clarify this (might just be a problem on my end)? If it's legitimate, does anybody know why it was removed? The official topic has been closed, can't find anything else about this - i've been using it for a while now with no issues. It's a great mod, hope it pops back up soon.
  10. I've had problems like this on and off for the past week. If I click to download a file, sometimes it will say the file was hidden by the author (even though it isn't...), NMM will go through all attempts to download a file and then fail, I am also getting the white error page that was posted earlier in the thread.
  11. Hey all. I'm getting a pretty annoying problem. Frequently, when I enter combat using energy weapons, my game will crash (generic 'fallout.exe has stopped responding message). My game has been working fine for the past few days and I don't recall doing anything that could have brought on this change - I haven't installed a new mod or anything like that. All that has changed is that I have progressed in the main quest ( I have now just started Broken Steel) I've used BOSS auto sort, checked for conflicts, created a clean save, created a merger patch, checked for errors in FO3edit etc. Nothing seems to work. My problem is pretty much identical to this post. Unfortunately, the OP never replied back. The last person who commented implied it was to do with energy weapons (OP also has EVE installed), so I have a strong feeling it is to do with energy weapons/EVE. Just to be sure, I went to Springvale elementary in game, killed one raider with a laser rifle and the game crashed. I then loaded the same save game, went back to Springvale and cleared the whole place out with an assault rifle. EVE is a great mod, I don't really want to get rid of it, as I said - it was working fine for a while so something must have changed. 12. Join the club xD I tried that not so long ago. I just rebooted and it apparently fixed someting, Im about to try to play a game. Nah, Oblivion, Crysis 2, and fallout New vegas have all bugged out on me so far. Exact same problem.
  13. Steam directory, was previously installed in Program files (86) I think its a much larger problem than that anyway, I've just tried 2 other games, Exact same thing. I checked event log and I had 50 thousand events... From today, they have all been about chkdsk.... Apparently some files in C are corrupt which could explain the problems ive been having when booting the computer. However I have run chkdsk several times already, and it dosent report any errors...
  14. OK so, this is going to sound weird, but I think my xbox 360 controller is causing the game to crash... *EDIT* nevermind... still crashed just took a little longer. Anyone have any ideas?
  15. I know there are save editors for the xbox 360, I don't know whether they are compatible with the PC though. Your best bet would be the command console. You can instantly complete quests, advance levels, add perks and items etc. Did you try loading an earlier save on the same character? Also, You can download another persons save file who was at a similar point in the game as you and then download psychoelfs character editor to change the special stats, your characters look etc etc. Someone on here might be generous enough to do it for you if you don't have the time. I would but unfortunately my game doesn't even work at the moment... I'm trying to re install right now to see if it resolves the issues with crashing... Trust me, having the game screw up and basically losing money is a lot worse than a corrupt save file, which can surprisingly be replaced quite quickly :P
  16. Did you DL from Steam? If so try defragging or verifying integrity of game cache. I had a problem with artifacts appearing that completely disappeared when I turned off antialiasing or HDR (or change it to Bloom) although the game looks pretty damn ugly without them... On the other hand it could just be a corrupt save file. Hope this helps.
  17. Well im pretty sure that everytime you save it creates a backup. Im not sure where it is located though, I'll have a look for you. For now I suggest loading an earlier save on the same character and go to the same spot to see if it crashes. Or you can create a new game (for testing purposes) use the console and type tgm to give you God mode, go the same spot and test it. If I cant find the backup or the backup is also corrupted then there is nothing more than can be done that I am aware of. Just avoid that area (I dont think the Hidden Valley is an essential area of the game quest wise) in the current save. Or you could start a new game (assuming it is a save issue) and use the console to instantly complete quests, teleport to quest areas, level up, give you items etc etc. *EDIT* I cant find the folder where these backups are kept... Sorry bud. As a last resort (if you are running on steam) try defragging the cache files by right clicking the FONV icon in the game library, properties - locals files. Either verify the game cache of defrag. That's all I can think of atm.
  18. I have a few ideas.. The first one depends on where you are crashing, if it is in the bunker then try do 'pcb' on commandline before enter and after enter each level of the place. And save often. If you are running on Vista or Windows 7 try running in XP service pack 3 compatibility mode. (You have right click EVERY .exe in the fallout NV directory click properties - compatibility and set to XP service pack 3) You could also try the d3d9.dll file which might help you. As well as boosting overall performance with Nvidia cards it can help solve some crashing issues. Or of course, It could possibly just be a corrupt save.
  19. Well Im at a total loss there xD I currently have no mods loaded, no DLC, and a fresh install.
  20. I actually just left it running for about 3 mins after it froze again (using the fullscreen windowed mod) and it started responding again. It's still a massive pain in the ass but hey, at least it gives anyone who would be willing to help a bit more insight into what is going on
  21. Its because what I am looking at in game when it freezes becomes locked to the screen. If I alt tab or Ctrl alt del it just wont work, believe me I've tried. The other guy provided a full screen windowed mod that works around the issue of having to reboot the computer every time it freezes, however it doesn't fix the freezing problem. I've tried removing all the mods, now I will try with the DLC's too, thanks for your suggestion.
  22. Thank you for the advice, im kinda relieved to know that at least im not the only one experiencing this. If you discover anything that resolves, reduces or involves this issue please post back here, as will I.
  23. Before I begin let me just say that I am well aware there are many topics on this issue, however none are quite like mine. OK so I recently installed Fallout: New Vegas again months after I uninstalled it... (Steam copy) It used to work fine didn't experience a single bug. However I am now experiencing a very weird and game breaking problem... Each and every time I play, no matter where I am in game, No matter what I am doing or what save I am using the game will lock up and I will be left unable to move the cursor, alt tab or ctrl alt del out of the game... This happens around 5 mins into the game every time and just before it happens I completely lose all sound in the game. Sometimes the music will carry on playing for a while and then it will stop or some ambient FX will continue to play, such as a campfire, and I can actually hear music playing from other programs running in the background such as Itunes or people talking in Skype which proves the whole computer isn't locking up - yet it wont let me ctrl alt del or alt tab. The only way I can escape is by cold booting, and it's beginning to take its toll on my computer. I have tried many things, updating drivers, changing graphic settings, updating the game, re installing, cleaning the registry etc etc but nothing has worked. The weirdest thing about what is happening is that it only happens to Bethesda games... The EXACT same thing recently happened to me with TES IV:Oblivion too. I have no idea how to fix this. Here are my computers specs and mod load order; FalloutNV.esm DeadMoney.esm HonestHearts.esm OldWorldBlues.esm CaravanPack.esm Readius.NV.esp (Disabled) Erebus.esp hz_SVD.esp Glove_be_gone.esp Legion Redesigned.esp RCSS.esp TheEnd.esp m1d.esp SpetsnazArmor.esp (Disabled) I also have the latest versions of NVSE and FOMM installed. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit AMD Athlon II X4 620 Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.6GHz 4GB RAM DirectX 11 GeForce GTX 460 Realtek HD audio (not sure if I needed to post this but I will just incase) Any one have any ideas? This is bugging the hell out of me. Thanks in advance.
