  1. O.o i have been looking at the mods also!!! I have only used a couple like texture packs and the FXAA processing what do you use? I WANNA TRY EM!!! :P I ended up settling on Himmelsrand Custom Shader Suite, with the setup from Realistic Skyrim v2, then I got a mod called Vurt's something it improves the textures of certain trees. I also got a few smaller more personal mods. No Blocky Faces, Detailed Faces, Detailed Bodies, and High Quality Eyes from xenius. Got one called Display Time on Loading Screen because I lose track of time fairly easy while I'm playing. lol I have one called Skyrim Sunglare so that the sun gives off a realistic glare, Enhanced Blood Textures (pretty self explanatory) and another called Glowing Ore Veins. the colors in ore veins have a slight glow to them so they are easier to find...and that's actually about it. I had a Dragon Texture Pack for awhile but I just dropped it to go back to the way bethesda made them. I tried using FXAA PPI and one of the custom profile programs somebody made for it at first, but ended up liking the Himmelsrand thing better. mostly just trial and error. trying to get the nexus mod manager to work and trying to decide if I had certain folders in the right places. it's been so long since I really played Oblivion I almost forgot how to mod. hehe Edit: I don't know if the Himmelsrand Shader and FXAA PPI will work together, but I might spend some time trying it out. I find that just screwing around with modding to see what's compatible is fun....probably only for me, though. lol Re-Edit: Do not try to play the game with both Himmelsrand and FXAA installed. The game locks up and crashes before it ever starts up. While both are great seperately, unfortunately they will not work together.
  2. That is true indeed. I had an issue at one point saying the game was unavailable, so I just went into the directory and found the .exe file and pinned it to my taskbar. it starts it from the .exe directly so you don't have to deal with steam. You will however have to run it through steam at some point if an update is released. which you already know, I guess. If you don't know the directory it should be local disk\program files\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim and then pick either "SkyrimLauncher.exe" or "TESV.exe" That said... I agree there's nothing wrong with steam. Only reason I can see anyone having a problem with it is if they aren't true pc gamers. :P  YES! That is a legal way to play without having to start steam every time - However, you still have to use steam to activate the game the first time. It actually downloads some content that is not on the DVD. Bben46
  3. on any kind of laptop my best suggestion would be to buy a cheap 20 dollar wired mouse to play. TES on a laptop is death without a real mouse. Trust me I played about halfway through both Morrowind, and Oblivion on an old (newer at the time) Toshiba Satellite and I finally just said "screw it". Never played them again for about a year until I got around to buying a desktop. hehe
  4. haha I've put 70 hours into just one character and I have thirty plus quests in my log still to be completed. I have three other characters that I've put about 8 hours into total. There is no end in sight!! I just recently became the Harbinger of the Companions, and am about to assassinate the emperor for the dark brotherhood. the game is so in depth and expansive it's freaking crazy! Spent this much time on the game and there is still so much new stuff happening I just can't quit playing. lol I would have probably had an extra twelve hours into it, but I've spent about that much time trying out new mods and fixing ones that I've broken by installing other mods.
  5. Just had a quick question. I've noticed a few broken swords laying around and I was just curious as to their use. Can they be repaired or are they just for show?
  6. I found a place to buy a war dog companion, but it was 500, which is the standard price for human companions. I didn't buy it because I was worried that the dog would displace my human companion. Do you know if this is the case? Can you have a war dog AND a humanoid companion at the same time? I dunno about the dog, but I had two quest npcs AND my whiterun housecarl with me when I made the trip to the old Blades Temple.
  7. looking forward to seeing someone make this mod. I was really disappointed at the fact, that there wasn't much use for carrying around a woodcutter's axe aside from to upgrade the lowest level bows. I was hoping there would be fletching, fishing poles, and the ability to set up a camp fire and/or tent out in the wilderness. thus bringing a true use to lumber-jacking in game. if you're out on a hunting trip gonna be gone for a while out in the wilderness, a small portable camp would be an essential. The fact there are not fishing poles in the game is silly, especially when you're in a place like Riften, and all you hear is people blathering on about how it used to be a such a great fishing town. Ooh new idea mayhaps...useable fishing boats from lumber. though I do not know how they would work as far as portability goes.
  8. I agree this would be a great mod to see. just so I could start working on enchanted gear I bought a bunch of leather to bump it up to 60 from it's previous...43? I got there faster and it made things easier, but if things are too easy you usually tend to appreciate them less.
  9. I just got my Khajiit turned into a vampire, and I noticed that the teeth look funny. the shape and everything are fine, but they are blocky looking, like the noses were (if you haven't already downloaded the mod to fix them). but that sparked an idea. I don't have enough experience making mods or I would do it myself.... but maybe someone could create a mod with different vampire teeth. Make a few different sizes and shapes of teeth, have them all in one download and you can throw the file for the ones you want into the proper location...or have some kind of interface in game to interchange them. Would be great to see something like that or maybe some different skins for werewolf form. Dunno what all could be done with the stuff, but it was just a thought. Thanks in advance if somebody starts or is already in progress with such a mod. So, yeah... in general what I'm asking for is some awesome person to spend some time creating custom styles of vampire teeth. lol
  10. Yeah, I've checked it in game and it works. I made sure to make copies of pretty much everything I was using, so as not to screw up the entire game. I may have missed something somewhere. I'll get back to you on that as soon as I have a chance to look at it. thank you :D
  11. I want to add to that problem. I worked on another mod and used the secret door from Benirus Manor. Do you have to do scripting work to get it to open?
  12. Just got a question. I'm new to modding, and I just recently made my own little cottage. I a made a copy of an existing cell and I've changed everything I can find to My Hunting Lodge and such. The problem I'm having, is that when I go to it in game it still says "Hrol Ulfgar's House" when I go to the door. How do I change it to say My Hunting Lodge? I've removed the npc from the interior and changed ownership of everything to Player.
