Very Rough Mod List and Install Order List
runlvlzero replied to runlvlzero's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Thanks, I shoulda read the 2cnd link in your sig first before just tossing pyfii into the search box here... =) That is very good to know about the automated tool, I had a deep suspicion what you stated above was the case. I have tinkered with some stuff like that before, just not *.nifs. I read your omod making tutorial and man that's awesome, its such a breeze, I had no idea the actual scripting was sooo easy =) (I'm lazy and never bothered to open an omod script before, so I just hacked the files together into folders that I liked and packaged those usually). I think I learned more in 15 minutes then I have in 2 years of playing with this game lol =) -

Very Rough Mod List and Install Order List
runlvlzero replied to runlvlzero's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Yup, the weather mod I'm using IS All Natural (I am retarded and got confused between that and the bits and peaces in max teals, (dont worry I have max's stuff stashed out of the way so It wont get installed on accident =) - It has a fixed up version of real lighting built in which I'm excited about. I went and found the pyfii automated installer and I am sorta frustrated by one flaw (more or less in my install method)... If I went the Pyfi route.. any mods that install new *.nifs that i want to optimize with Pyffi will require me to optimize them prior to packaging them in omod... if I reinstall an omod after I pyffi the installed *.nifs and it reverts back to the default *.nifs (not pyfii'd) I think I might have some troubles there, might cause CTD too if some texture or mesh depended on the original *.nif config, not 100% sure here (might just revert to the slower, unoptimized nifs.. If I get everything up and running with stability I'll probably load up pyfii =) What happens if you try to run pyfii multiple times on a nif? does it cause degradation like high jpg compression? Its really time consuming to unpackage and repackage all the mods so I'm trying to avoid that as much as possible by sticking with prepackaged, omod ready zips or omods, some mods i'm pre-patching before I create a manual omod, others I make a seperate omod for the patches (like BC they don't like you pre-patching their files and it can get ugly if you make a mistake) Found robertsv5 =) -
Very Rough Mod List and Install Order List
runlvlzero replied to runlvlzero's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Ya, I agree with ya 100% almost exclusively. Let me try to explain my list a bit better. PyFFi I was reading was still sorta beta (but I'll go to their page and read their stuff, I was only reading what 3rd parties had to say about it) ANW is All Natural Weather, not max teals stuff (i did use max teals before, but I want to check out the new All Natural Weather and "Enhanced Vegetation" which works good with the lighting mods I picked and the StormsNSounds mod, and I hear ya on the OBSE version of that, OBSE all the way!) I did really like Max Teals for the longest time =) But I want different looks this time around =) I am not gonna use MOBS. Unless someone twists my arm backwards and makes me =P I did download a few patches for it, but I just didn't feel like finding the right specific one... =/ I know I'm lazy (I'm not asking for help on MOBS though so please don't be mad) as far as MOBS goes, I was really very happy with my test of FranMMM and no MOBS, I did have MMM's damage/durability tweak, but I enjoy the difficulty of default oblivion gear/leveled mobs, so Fran and MMM's additional challenge in the form of more mobs, and super bosses and varied mob stats is really perfect for me. I think deadly reflex and UV will have a more dramatic effect on combat anyway. If combats too easy I can always easily adjust the slider up by 15-25% and honestly I think that's very close to how mobs would turn out anyway... With Better Cities your right, I'm loading UL afterwords because I downloaded the UL complete Omod and the UL complete patches Omod. I have confidence in the modders who made these making the scripts good enough to get the right patches in place, if they don't work then I have an archived zip of all the patches, and I'll drop the compatibility omods in favor of those. I think the worst scenario is it might miss one or two patches. I can still hunt and peck for and load on top of the omod'd patches (as long as they are not patching the same and its just a missing patch.) But then again on this one after thinking about it I see your point of view in loading UL first, then BC, then patching the adventures, I probably can still get away with using the UL complete compatibility omod doing this because it won't install any BC patches prior to having BC installed (could get funky if I have to reinstall others, but then I'll have to reinstall both BC and UL at the same time... definitely the first thing I'll do if I have to end up troubleshooting these allot. TamTravellersMerchants <-- Heads up!: Aside from TTItemsCobl, you cannot install more than ONE TTItemsXX plugin I'm not sure about what your saying here... 100% I was reading that I could use it with Frans and MMM safely, and I'm only using the bare minimum cobl setup, not going to load anything else from there. Would that be conflicting with the cobl mod that spreads items like gem dust etc to all the other mods? Wanna laugh, search google for TTItemsCobl only and you will get this page, man google spiders FAST. No reason not to use v5 for Roberts, I just have not ran into it even after all the downloading and searching around =) I'll search for that for sure =) Yes, it is quietfeetmax2.0 I did try a few others, and they didn't seem to work properly I tried a pre-built omod and just a sound data replacer version, I was thinking of using the omod script to build an omod out of the actual 2.0 mod and hoping that would work better =) I think maybe some sounds might be getting bashed over the 2.0 fix or something. Anyway hope that clears anything up I miss communicated originally thanks very much for the input Tomlong! -
What's You'r Favorite Place In Oblivion ?
runlvlzero replied to reaper9111's topic in Oblivion's Spoilers
Illiana's Elsweyr of Anequina beaches are the BEST!!! man... they are the most immersive beaches =) and I live in FL, now to bad you cant go to a beach like that solo IRL in the US =P -
I'm reinstalling my favorite mods and trying a few new ones. Ive done allot of reading of readme files. I did a very quick search on google (unfortunately "oblivion mod install order" does not work well for me, I hate google). So after all the research on readme files, a few forums, and FCOMs website, and reading the discussions for each of these mods I've downloaded. I came up with a very rough list of the safest order for install. Right now I'm breaking them all apart and making omods out of them (except for frans which I trust the exe installer). Ive tested most individually or separately on an earlier OOOMMM install so I'm confident about 90% of them (better cities, UL, Midas, etc) I also did a preliminary test of FranMMM which was great and was a nice refreshing experience from OOO or OOOMMM. Had allot of experience with EVE and HGEC and Textures (I spent way to much time creating toons and dressing them up before, rather then playing). Hopefully I'll get to really enjoy some of the good quest and adventure/area mods out there now. BTW my system is an AMD 3200+ 64bit Athalon (2.3ghz), 2 Gigs ram (i think 800mhz FSB), Geforce 8600GT 512MB, WinXP 32bit, onboard AC97 sound. Ive ran oblivion OOOMMM before with better cities (no FPS patches) and streamline with really playable FPS and not allot of heavy texture modding on worldspace textures (allot of body/armor/clothing texture modding though) and It did not stutter badly with the insane number of spawns from MMM. I'll take any feedback you guys want to give about the mods and install order their in... although don't expect me to really argue if you say mod XYZ is lame etc... I'm curious about how my system will handle the texture packs from qtp3 I have downloaded the reduced and redemized as well as the full just in case. I am also interested in any glaringly bad incompatibilities anyone sees glancing over the list =) Anyway Here's the list its big... apologies... also ignore the funky formatting, I grouped them into some categories just for organization, their install order would be as they are listed. I am gonna bash as much together into bashed patch as I can and try to merge as many as I can using Wyre, hopefully that will eliminate some of oblivion's buggyness with large amounts of mods. This is maybe about 1.5x as many mobs as I've ran before, I'm guessing their will be about 60 ESP's (maybe less I haven't checked whats merge-able. The PS columns and # marks are for my reference as to watch installed etc.. (I know I already cheated with Elys's silent voice and installed that into OBSE/plugins, but I know that won't conflict anywhere. (p stands for packaged, I for installed). Those things probably will not help to much. I will link the "important" pages here, no need to read through all of that. Latest Official Patch <-- If you are not using the GOTY version, install the latest patch Regenerate the Oblivion.ini <-- If you had to install the latest patch, follow up with this Oblivion.ini Tweaks <-- there are many useful performance tweaks listed here Optimization Mods <-- a number of replacers here are useful, especially Quiet Feet MAX Outdated Optimization <-- just so you know, avoid these... Stabilization Mods <-- stabilization can help with performance too, a lot actually... SL.ini Tweaks <-- to help setup Streamline's INI file properly Popular Outdated Mods <-- avoid these Wow at the risk of sounding like a total sycophant, you sir have the most amazing site there right under my radar!!! I've had to spend allot of time finding these things out by myself... definitely great to have them all in one place and in the amount of detail. You are a noob helper god!!! may the internet lords commend you for your sharing of knowledge!!!

Elsweyr the Deserts of Anequina blocked?
runlvlzero replied to arntey's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
ya this site needs a slashdot.org karma system so trolls get modded down and their comments hidden, you can ignore/block them individually and trolls with bad karma do not get "mod" points to vote on peoples post (would work for mod rating too). This would help a great deal. Also a need little "click this to auto-email the idiot the RTFM on ZIP files (using the nexus server so your mail is obfuscated), load order" button on post pages would be nice... lol, then block them. And ya this mod is one of the best if not the top 10 for sure =) I love the texture work and the beaches allot ) and i think allot of the work that went into it got used in allot of other mods also Mad spelling errors fixed -
Super, I normally avoid beths forums because their site drives me nuts, so it took me awhile to find my old password =) I can't thank you enough for how helpful and informative you've been )

Ive used the Nev Set "F-Inev"... quite a bit. And liked it very much. Probably better for the standard races. Make an omod out of ozmo's and F-Inevs, their texture packs so you can swap them out without causing your game to get all wonky, just make sure their installed after other texture modifiers (like if you got a texture set specifically for chocolate or ice elves) and only one is active =)

Another great link tomtom =) Do you think it would be possible to get warcry and TIE working along side FranMMM? without OOO? I did a few searches for FCOM without OOO etc... but I don't think that its possible to use the FCOM esps without OOO Esps loaded. Now I havent checked the individual comparability of warcry and TIE, but I would guess you could wyre bash them up with Fran and MMM without to much trouble? as they mostly changed leveled lists...?
-
Hey tom, thanks for your link, maybe i'll make a second copy of oblivion and install FCOM there =) Hellbiship your right on with describing OOO... it really does a good job with the details, defiantly superb there in fleshing out all the "generic stuff" and making it special. and Wolfhound646 by Zomb 13 one I mean http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19086 28 Days and a bit 2 zombies...

I'm gonna say apachii godess store... could also be oonas outfitters

First of all I am starting this topic to see what other peoples opinions are so please vote =) or explain what you like, and maybe why. Maybe if you can avoid flaming try to explain why you might not like certain features but lets not be mean =) I'll start off. I think my favorites now have to be FransMMM plus all of the other little quest and adventure mods (lost spires etc) and area mods (Elswyr) right now of course body re placers too =). I really like FransMMM because it is pretty nonrestrictive on were you can go and what you can do for the most part and does not conflict with allot of other mods that like to tweak little things here and there. Frans and MMM with some extra item mods bashed in with frans rare bosses is great. Its takes everything good about oblivion and makes it better and polishes it. I'm gonna give this very easy to setup simple combo a 8 because it just was real easy to get working, worked with cobl and half the other billion crazy little mods I like. And I only had to read about 20 lines of a readme.... very elegant, this is the bar everyone should strive for for installation ease. Frans and MMM are very nice also in that they have a very modular plugin based aproach... I can use their plug-ins or switch to the original mods their based off with some skill and use those instead. I use to play with OOO almost exclusively (for a year or so), then I switched to OOOMMM for awhile. I found OOO to be real hard to get to work nice with other mods and it kinda penalized early game exploration. It also makes the game slightly harder then I would like... also there are a few hard coded artificial barriers like minimal lock picking etc... Now all that off my chest, I think OOO was perfect, it accomplished all of its goals and the mod did everything it said and flawlessly. It truly made Oblivion's world unique. Another small drawback was that every game was almost the same as far as you knew were all the best stuff was so if you "learned" the mod... the exploration game was kinda over for me. It was also very hard to get working right with some of my other mods but it did make me learn some things about modding. So I would rate OOO or OOOMMM at around a 7, a vast improvement over vanilla oblivion. Now FCOM, Warcry, and TIE, I have not tried these yet. I have to say FCOM looks promising and cool, but I still do like a very dynamic world, almost a random nethack style game generated every time I log in. From what I have read FCOM is still largely static like OOO. FCOM looks great, but is daunting to even a programmer, and someone who has dabbled with almost everything computer/gaming (10 year IT field veteran here). The list of compatibility patches can get kinda endless and tedious to manage. I'm not trying to bash anyone, but it is very daunting to a casual gamer. Just finding the right patches and ESP's and fixing the UOP patches to work with the MOBS system is a little harsh, the Wrye bashed stuff is easy compared to managing all the files and patches you will need. Being a big omod fan, it just is daunting to have to merge, build and create omods patched up to work properly with this mod. (But I do greatly thank the community for all the effort you have put into supporting those guys). I think in maybe a year or 2 if its still active the community will be able to consolidate allot of patches, fixes etc and make this install a breeze. I almost think a database program for managing all these files for FCOM needs to be written specifically outside of what Wyre and OBMM do =P My wish for FCOM would be a very light on the combat, item stat, damage tweaks, maybe only included frans AI behavior, was more dynamic, maybe only a few "Trademark static dungeons" (the rest of the world 100% dynamic). I know you can still teak it greatly by installing OOO Lite and such, but I wish OOO was just a little more modular. I'm not gonna rate it as I have not actually spent more then a few hrs trying to get it to work and I really cant say what its like to go from 1-30 in FCOM. Also the above mods really don't touch magic at all or all that much... so I would say Midas Magic was the coolest magic overhaul out there... I like a fast paced quick sandbox game on moderate difficulty 50% slider (I can die if I really rush into a fight etc). At level 30 I want to be an indisputable god =) Some of the things that really shine about Francesco's to me are the AI tweaks... their amazing!!! I plan on throwing deadly reflexes and unnecessary violence over my FransMMM not sure if adrenaline fueled combat will work on top of all that as well, but if I can get them working on top of FransMMM, I'll have one heck of a fun sandbox to play in =). There is also a stealth mod out there that really makes 1handers, and daggers viable for rogue types and brings a bit more combat fun to stealth characters, not sure if that will be compatable with frans and the other combat mods yet

I have a mod which I downloaded and turned into an OMOD. The mod is fairly complex with OMOD conversion data and an install script. The mod is OOO 1.3 It has a beta 5, 1.34 patch which contains 2 esps, and some mesh/texture updates. Now what is your preferred method of installing the patch to OOO or a similarly complex mod through OMM? Do you copy the patch archive into the pre-OMOD OOO 1.3 archive data and merge the mesh/textures files and replaces esps then recreate a brand new OMOD for 1.34 OOO? This latter method seems prone to error to me, specifically if there's OMOD scripting that needs to change. I plan on using a few other pretty complex mods with patches. Right now I'm just creating an OMOD per OOO's instructions and then creating an additional OMOD for the patch and I think OMM will override the 1.3 OMOD's data with the 1.34 Beta 5 patch OMOD data. Please correct me if I'm mistaken. I think at least the way I am doing it you can revert back to OOO 1.3 without the patch through OMM easily by deactivating the 1.34 patch data =) All my previous modding experience has been without a management utility and OMM is looking pretty awesome... like you will be able to easily swap between different mods without having to deal with massive messes of files in the DATA folder =) I had to do all the picking and choosing of conflicting mesh files manually and backup/restore the hard way =/ Thanks for any input.

Just a quick question about getting the amount that a skill is modified by luck to show up in the character sheet (were it shows skill levels and skill modifiers (in some mods) (apologize for the nested parentheses)). I did quite a bit of googling and searching around on tesnexus to no avail. Any one think that it might exist, or may be a simple xml edit to the menu_config.xml files? Just to be clear what i have in mind is something that says: Ability SKILL BASE LUCK ENH Blade 76 45 20 10 Where SKILL is total skill BASE is skill with no modification from luck, spells etc LUCK is the amount luck modifies the skill and ENH is whatever is left over from "Magical" buff/enhancement of the skill Thanks all for reading, hope something like this exists or is doable.
