  1. So without a "snap-to" feature, that means all this stuff was placed BY HAND? Wow. Grid snap and the pivot-point snap in one of the Bethesda videos are nice, but still... wow. I'm trying to place light "emitter" objects over lampposts and it's brutally annoying trying to get the XYZ's correct. In 3D CAD, I would be able to select the light object's bottom side and make it "stick" to the top of the lamp object, Then I could adjust the offsets in any direction, but those two objects would remain mated. I'm now even further impressed with how much work goes into some of this stuff. The "1 to hide" is helpful, kinda. I mean, it's better than nothing. Well, this proves I was using the tool correctly, to the best of what it can do. I was afraid I missed some crucial step. So be it. Thanks for help, guys.
  2. I'm tinkering around in the GECK, trying to learn a few things. Right now, I'm playing with the wonderful Fallout Streetlights mod and attempting to add a few additional lights in and around Springville. Getting the lights to work properly is a topic I haven't yet conquered (need to examine the scripts they use), but I have a bigger question to ask. When placing a new object, is it possible to automatically "snap" that object to an existing object? I come from the land of 3D mechanical design, so I'm accustomed to what we call "constraints", where two object faces are stuck together. I'm hoping there's something similar, because the GECK render window isn't nearly as flexible as a 3D CAD program. I know about holding X, Y, or Z to move in a specific direction, but it's pretty tedious. I know I can dial in precision numbers in the Edit dialog box. I've read about this Shift + Q thing, but I can't figure out how it works. I sorta have an idea, but it's not clear. ---- Related question... when I load up the cell I'm working on, is there any way to hide everything BUT what I'm working on? I know I can use 1 to hide individual designs, but I wish there was a way to select the items I want to SHOW and hide everything else. Can I do that? Thanks in advance.
  3. I seem to have found it. I overlooked one of the technical patches (either Unofficial Patch or perhaps the 4GB patch), assuming those were already done. I re-installed those, re-installed the 4GB patch, and everybody is happy now. The bad news is that my laptop seems to have become sensitive to overclocking with Afterburner. I was letting it do it's automatic OC-profile thing last night and it BSOD'ed. I don't know if it's a thermal event or what, but I think I'm just going to steer clear for now. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll probably need them in the future.
  4. Hi all. This isn't exactly a Vortex question, but a general mod question. I've just been through a complete and total system meltdown and had to reinstall Windows and start from scratch. I managed to back up *some* of my mod archives, but not all of them. My last save before the crash was about 2.5 hours into the game. The previous ones are less than 30 minutes. I know I'm supposed to make multiple saves, but, my bad. Anyway, I've reinstalled most of the mods I know of, and most of my older saves will work. However, the most recent one gives me the warning of "Relies On Content No Longer Available", and then crashes the whole system to the desktop. Is there a way - besides trial and error - to figure out which content it's trying to find? Thanks for any tips.
  5. Well, thanks for looking. I figured I'd ask here, among the people who know a ton more about this stuff than I do. I had a mod for FO4 that let you assign hotkeys to Pip-Boy pages and it was handy. I was hoping to recreate it, but... oh well. Thanks again for searching. (I would have replied earlier, but I'm just recovering from a catastrophic system crash. Man, I love Windows.)
  6. Hello all you lovely and talented modders! I'm just digging back into FO3 when learning it's been 10 years since I devoted my life to it on the Xbox 360. Now I have a PC, and I've gotten obsessed with mods (and yes, I endorse those I like and use!) I would like, however to try and make on of my own, if possible. I'd like to map certain keys (or better yet, make them assignable) to pull up your Pip-Boy and automatically show a specific page. Foe example, press "M" and have it pull up the Pip-Boy and go immediately to the World Map page. And similar for other important and often-used pages, like Aid or Weapons. I'm by no means any kind of serious modder. The most I've done is fool around in Springdale, learning how to properly place objects and save the results as my own .esp file. Does anyone know if this is possible? I haven't seen anything in the console commands or script references I've gone over. There's a console command to turn the Pip-Boy knob, which is kinda neat, I guess, but not very useful. Anyone have an idea? Thanks in advance! Does anyone know if this is possible? I haven't seen anything in the console commands or script references I've gone over.
