  1. I just reinstalled Oblivion. Kind of. I have the GOTY CD version, but my computer has no CD drive. My solution was to make ISOs of the CDs an a laptop, then transfer those, mount them on a virtual drive, then install. SecuROM wouldn't let me. Okay, second attempt. Install Oblivion on the laptop, then transfer the installed files. I even tested the ISOs to be sure they'd let me launch Oblivion using them, and it worked just fine. I transfered everything to my desktop, mounted the ISOs, and launched. The intro movies played, but froze after the last one. I had to kill Oblivion via task manager. That happens every time I try to launch, no matter what else I do. I get the same thing every time. It's in a custom, non-program files location. Compatibility mode does nothing. Run as administrator does nothing. Deleting Oblivion.ini does nothing (even though it was never modified in the first place). Trying different graphical settings does nothing. I only have one monitor, so it's not a dual monitor problem. No-CD patch? That doesn't work either. At this point, I've run out of ideas. My best guess is that this is related to my inability to do a proper install. I'm out of ideas on things to try. System specs: Windows 7 64-bit i5 @ 3.4ghz 8GB ram NVIDIA GTX 760 No CD drive
  2. @bben46 Thanks, good to know. @Guinefort1 My preferences are first progression, UI, and gameplay related stuff. Environmental stuff comes next. After that, this is where I'm open to suggestions for "stuff". Anything that makes the game cooler. No specifics. I've always had a hit or miss experience with immersion-related mods, but I'm open to looking into what's out there. Graphics are lowest priority for me, but after everything else had been installed it's time to make it all look pretty.
  3. I'm thinking of reinstalling Oblivion. I only have vague memories of the issues I had with vanilla, most mod lists I see are either dead links or haven't been updated since Skyrim came out, and looking over the most endorsed files list only gets me so far, so I'm asking here for help and suggestions finding and remembering stuff. First off, mod managers. Does NMM work for old Oblivion stuff? I see OBMM hasn't been updated since 2011 but is still on top of the endorsed files list. Is it still good or are there better ones out there now? I'm gonna first install the unofficial patches and OBSE. Are there any other essentials? I remember two major problems with Oblivion: UI and progression. I remember DarNified UI being top tier and it still seems to rank high so I'm likely gonna go for that. As for progression... I really have no clue. And of course after all the gameplay tweaks and enhancements, graphics mods. I never really used many due to not having a good PC at the time, but I do have one now and would like to take advantage of that. I'm also perfectly fine with people throwing general suggestions of mods or mod lists at me. Tell me your favorites! Other than all that... is there anything big that came out between now and 2011, or are there any big mods that changed developers or got a successor? I'm currently working off the assumption that most of the stuff in the older mod lists I've looked over is probably still good and I can look in the same general place to find the latest versions but I also don't want to just pretend it's 2010 when I start out, then find something cool that relies on a new dependency that turns out to be a new version of an old mod that changed hands and keep pulling that thread until I find out that half of my setup is obsolete. So yeah. Any help is appreciated.
  4. I'm having a problem where Oblivion freezes on startup. I start the game, see the loading screen (my ini is configured to skip the intro movies), but it never loads. It just sits there at nothing, frozen. I have to use the task manager to forcibly quit Oblivion. I tried messing around with recently installed mods, but that didn't fix it. I keep a clean copy of Oblivion on my hard drive as a backup (it has Knights and SI. It's otherwise completely unmodded), I swapped it out with my modded one, made sure that it was using a default ini, and tried launching that. As soon as I skipped the intro video it froze just the same. I'm not even sure where to begin troubleshooting this problem anymore, any suggestions?
  5. I third the colthing divisions.
  6. Whenever I approach Bravil from the outside, Oblivion's framrate slows until it eventually freezes. Trying to quick travel there causes the loading bar to halt at about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through and then it freezes. I'm having a similar problem on the inside of Bravil, where the bar will freeze at about the same point for a minute or so, then it'll finish, however the fair deal and the lonely suitor lodge are missing. All that's left is the door (havn't tried going inside) and maybe a few objects around it, but the building itself is replaced by a missing mesh thingy. Outside of Bravil, everything else seems fine. From the last time I visited Bravil, the only mod I've installed is Kvatch Rebuilt, and uninstalling it produced no change. Any idea how to fix this?
  7. Okay, now I see. I rewrote the script a bit so that it continually displays "I am in combat!" when in combat instead of just when it begins but it works perfectly. I'm thinking of adding some sort of visual effect on the player when combat begins to make it more noticeable (already looked up a function for that) but now that I have half a clue what I'm doing I think I can figure it out. Yes, it was rather easy. What was stopping me from doing this was that I didn't know what I was doing XD. And I did learn some stuff instead of learning nothing having an .esp given to me, that was the reason I asked for help making it instead of that. Very nice reply, there were a few things I didn't get at first but I was able to fill in the gaps in my knowledge with the CS wiki. :thanks: Oh, and to grmblf: you can change how often a quest script runs like this float fQuestDelayTime set fQuestDelayTime to <something> Where <something> is how much delay you want between how often the sript runs in seconds. Looked this up because 5 seconds was way too long a delay for me.
  8. I've read the beginner's guide, but it didn't tell me much for something like this. The problem with GetDetected and the sneak eye is that it returns true for any detection, not just hostile ones and I only want this to happen when a hostile target detects me. That and my current character isn't a stealth type anyway (and I like to do some level of roleplaying, hitting sneak every few seconds just wouldn't feel right). Having a message pop up saying I'm detected would work, but not the way I'd like. It would suffice if I can't get a custom effect though. But I do realize that I was rather vague in asking for help so let me elaborate on what specifically I don't know how to do for this. 1. How do I have a script constantly be running (would you use a script for this or is there a better way)? 2. Can I use some kind of trigger event to display something or do I have to have a loop constantly checking if I'm in combat? 3. Just how do I make changes to the interface anyway? That's mainly what I'd like answered for now, if I have more questions (and I'm sure I will) I'll make another post with them, but as far as I can see the three things I asked are nessacary for basic functionality.
  9. Hello. I'm new to modding, I've messed around with the CS a bit but I have no idea how to do anything like this. What I want is a mod that will give a visual warning whenever the player is targeted by an enemy for combat, like a red box around the edges of the screen or something. I mainly want this because I don't always have sound on and therefore can't hear the combat music, thus if I get targetted from the side or behind I don't know about it until the enemy is attacking me and I havn't even pulled my weapon out. If someone knows how to make this, give me some general tips. I want to get better at modding so I don't want everything done for me, but at the same time I have no idea how to do interface mods nor do I know how to check whether or not the player is in combat.
