  1. I think it's a matter of simple colour change (for example, in GIMP). I did that already and it works. Simply find your texture file (of the hood, of course), open it in GIMP (you might need dds expansion) and then do with it whatever you want. Then put it back in the right place in texture folder (remember to put it back with dds format). While saving it, check to generate maps (no idea what these are for, but I know it is obligatory or something). EDIT. If you want to use textures of the armour itself, you can also open it in the GIMP and copy the texture.
  2. Hm... I guess I'd have to make the foe invincible for a while, so the player wouldn't kill him while changing/making some spell/etc. But how would I do this without making him invincible forever? Anyway, thanks for your help!
  3. So, for the past few days I was simply learning how CK works and I have been thinking about battles. In vanilla Skyrim, battles usually can be described as: grab your weapon and smash that guy! So, yeah, quite boring and predictable. I was thinking about a challenge, something demanding more tactic from you. And I got that idea: Multi-stage battle - is it possible? My idea in detailes: You fight a guy who is told to be powerful. At first, nothing interesting happens, you get his Hp really low and then... Let's say: he turns into a werewolf, his Hp regenarates and he fights with werewolf template combat. So okay, you take him down again and then... He teleports to someplace you can see him but not attack him (some cool effects in background) and he... let's say, conjures four annoying spirit wolfs to bite you in the... you know what. So you take down the wolfs, he appears in the battleground again (for the sake of your annoyance, with his health regenerated) and you fight with him. Etc, etc, etc. So, is something like this possible? I mean, what would it mean for a modder to do something like this? Since I'm now creating a "training" mod to learn CK systems, I'd like to try to create something like this for learning purposes, but I'd also like not to smash my keyboard after facing things I have no idea about. If it's possible, would someone be kind enough to explain me step by step how I should get to it? Or at least, what kind of things in CK would be needed to get it done? Thanks!
  4. Oh, no, I understand you perfectly - I played Dark Souls 2 on PC and my first hours were spent on trying to figure out how you jump without a controller. It was pure hell before I managed to discover how keyboard worked in the game. I think every game has the same problem, not only those on consoles - cut out content because of lack of time or not enough will to finish their job. I wondered though why Bethesda is so keen on cutting out more and more content with every new game. I don't know, I think the only way to stop this wave of errors is to decide whether next Bethesda games are going to be only on consoles or PC. Otherwise, we're going to have pure chaos. I really hope you are right. Perhaps I'm wrong about this, but I believe this whole mess with different consoles is only for a certain period of time - after some years it should start stabilizing and it won't so troubling as before. But I only believe in it. And hope that if it will change, I will be still alive...
  5. I think your complaints are more because of limitations of console playing. I mean if just compare Oblivion and Skyrim controls. IIRC Oblivion uses more buttons than what's present on an XBox controller. Excuse me? Sorry, I don't understand what are you talking about - I'm playing on PC and using keyboard, so there are hardly any limits here. I don't want to be a... well, I don't know even what to call it, but I never played any of TES games on a console and never going to, so I hardly follow what happens outside of PC world. Doesn't matter if you play on a PC. The point is Skyrim was built to be playable on a console. Which means it is still restricted to what a console can do. Skyrim was built for the XBox 360 and just ported to a PC. Practically speaking, you're just playing a console game. Doesn't matter how many buttons the PC has, the base game is limited to console capabilties. Basically, playing Skyrim on PC is like putting an ounce of water in a 1L bottle. Sure it works, it's able to carry water. But it's not using full capacity. So that's what you meant. Sorry, I didn't understand you before. Hm. I must admit - it's kind of embarrassing but somehow I always thought they first make a game for a PC and then squish it all into a console version. I know, a mistake on my part. Sorry. I don't really think that making a more interesting game is related to buttons - seriously, it's a really lame excuse. I mean, you have all the buttons you need - just add some unique options to different objects, not to buttons. That's at least my own opinion, sorry. Honestly, I prefer it that way. PC gaming used to its quote-unquote "full potential" is expensive out the ass. The graphics card alone can easily be as expensive as a newly-released console. I honestly wish more developers would tone the graphics down just a notch so people with tighter pockets can have access to all the juicy stuff PC has to offer (e.g. user-created content that doesn't necessarily come straight from first-party servers, console commands, or the ability to back up your saves in a separate folder in the event of a crash or corruption) without having to pay for the equivalent of three consoles just for the hardware alone. At the very least, developers should offer reduced graphics settings that are actually compatible with lower end PCs. Not the current system of "low specs" which still require $150 graphics cards. And more importantly, the definition of a "lower-end PC" or a "mid-tier PC" should stay consistent for at least the lifespan of an average console. Upgrading my low-end PC to keep up with the times should only be about as expensive, on average, as buying a new console. For example, when a new console comes out, it usually runs about $300-450, but it lasts for an average of five years. This means that new hardware for consoles (not counting replacements for broken hardware) is about $60-$90 per year. Upgrading a gaming PC should be about that expensive, not the $150-$200 per year that it actually is. Then I could have more money to spend on buying ... ya know ... games and stuff! So I wish Bethesda's attitude about PC gaming was actually the norm. I agree with you about graphics - whenever I want to play a new game, I have to check if my good old PC will survive it. Heck, that's why I'll probably never play in the Witcher 3. I don't really understand what's with this all great graphics today. I mean, take Undertale - a great game without 3D. Working? Working. If someone asks me, game companies of today have been misled into thinking that if they'll make a beautiful game, it will be a hit. Eh, YMMV. I personally prefer Skyrim's base UI over SkyUI, which i find to be a cluttered mess that fails in every way to convey information in an efficient manner or be visually pleasing. Even with it's customization options, i've never gotten the damned thing to feel like anything but a chore. So, i personally don't think it's a good starting point for discussion. It's just another in a rather long line of terrible RPG interfaces, and the entire thing needs to be re-examined from the ground up. But, that's a general problem with TES (and most RPGs). They're built on a familiar framework, and that framework is basically garbage. Weight Behaviours, Armour Classes, Menu Management, Durability, Classes, Conversation, Stat Management... Hell, even basic controls are burdened by traditional thinking that doesn't take advantage of modern solutions. I'm afraid that traditions are going to stay. I played in one game that had everything kind of different and I thought I'm going to die - old good ways have its advantage, I think. I wouldn't say "no" to some genious changes in this category, but seriously, I doubt it will ever appear.
  6. Working on the mod halted. Due to serious problems with getting the mod working in the game (quest not triggering right, dialogues don't even appear) I officially inform everyone that for the moment being, there is no progress with the mod and won't be until I'll find out what I'm doing wrong.

  8. Taming animals? I'm in! I think windows like this would be mostly possible only with an open world otherwise those would be just pictures of the exterior, I think. When it comes to placing clutter around - I don't even bother in Skyrim because the game will throw them back to their first drop-place whenever I leave home. I think Morrowind (yes, again) was better in this with its system of placing items around. When it comes to generic people, I'd like them to replace all dead people, so if you like murdering annoying people from time to time, you won't end up with a ghost town. I don't know what Bethesda had against spell creation, really. It was my main source of spells in Morrowind and a way to avoid boring and sometimes useless vanilla spells. So yes, I'm for to bringing it back to the game but with some tweaks (for example, you can choose an animation or a colour of a spell for variety). After my first post here I was thinking for some time and I realized that I'd like Bethesda to change one things: more Daedric quests. I mean, Daedric artefacts are nice and all, but it's sad you barely can do anything related to Daedra before you get "Quest ended" in your face. The only Daedra Prince they ever elaborated was Sheogorath, really. That's not enough.
  9. I think getting a tie would be very rare since your skill are developing all the time, but I managed to solve it on my own. I thank you all for help - I consider this problem solved. Now, I simply have to find out why the quest doesn't trigger in the game (I believe that's because of mods, another my mod isn't working as well)... Well. On to taking my exam and then to clearing my game off every mod... This is going to be a long day.
  10. Thank you so much for a quick answer! I'll check if it's working as soon as I get home. Thank you again! :)
  11. Well, I'd love to see Elsweyr or Black Marsh  I'm probably going to cry if they'll give us Vallenwood, though. I'm not sure why, but Bosmer people never got my heart (they're even more annoying than Thalmor for me, which is kinda terrifying). Frankly, though, I'm less worried for a setting than for a plotline and mechanics. We already saw in Skyrim how much Bethesda can cut out for a "new content". I swear, for each little pixel on their textures they take away something good from the previous game. Darts, spell creating, telekinesis and skills themselves have been changed for a better graphics and annoying bugs. This is just my little dream, but I'd hug Bethesda if they will make a game with mechanics taken almost entirely from Morrowind - I'd love to see dialogue text box  No, but seriously. I really hope they will stop taking things away and start giving. And that their guilds will be more than a single, 5-hour plotline...
  12. I did a bit of searching before posting here but found nothing useful. So, I was trying to put one of my quest into my College Mod, but having completely ZERO experience with Papyrus Script, I found myself almost entirely unable to get some of my ideas alive. Considering how close I am to smashing my keyboard, I beg you for help with these awful, rude and annoying scripts. Here is my main problem: Checking player's best skill when giving him/her reward. What I want to do: without spoilers, player manages to finish his task and is given Apprentice Robes (I'll make it more special later on). BUT these Apprentice Robes are supposed to be based on his/hers best skill (Destruction, Illusion, Alteration, Conjuration, Restoration). I guessed I need to make a loop - but I have no idea how to do it with these variables (not to mention I don't remember how I was making loops in C++, especially I have no idea about it in Papyrus). My best idea that actually worked... to some extent: float Destruction float Illusion float Alteration float Restoration float Conjuration if (Game.GetPlayer().GetActorValue(Destruction > Illusion)) Game.GetPlayer().AddItem(<itemname>, 1) endif And here... I stopped. As I said, I don't know how to turn it into a loop to check all possible skills (spaming the whole space with "if" doesn't seem right... though I'll do it if I'll have no other option). Do I even have to make it a loop? Is there a better way to do this? If someone decides to help me - Thank you!
  13. Ok. I'm not an expert (actually, I'm an amateur), but lately I've been reading a tutorial on quest making, so I'll try to help. And the guy that made the tutorial uses Additem function - adds an item from nowhere (if it's not in game) or from game if used proper reference. Look, I'll copy you what I'm talking about. I guess you'll get the main idea. Alias_<aliasname>.GetReference().AddItem(Alias_<aliasname>.GetReference()) ^ This one for something that is in game. Game.GetPlayer().AddItem(Gold001, 500)^ This one for something from nowhere. I'm sorry, if this is not what you are looking for - just wanted to help. As I said, I'm barely scratching the surface of scripts at the moment.
  14. Progress: Finished the draft for the Sorcerer promotion quest (sadly, I decided to make it bigger and I will have to add side quests to make it playable - no spoilers :P) Created custom mesh and texture for added books - to avoid problems with my modded meshes and textures. Cleaned Arcanaeum off locked bookshelves (not all, I left some for decoration). I will start filling the place with books soon. Added about 10 books to the game (Daggerfall, Morrowind, TESO). Started making Apprentice promotion quest in CK (temporal problems with scripting, I'll do it trial and error way of doing). Plans: Make essential side quests for finishing the Sorcerer promotion quest. Finish adding books to the game (from other TES games). Finish implanting Apprentice promotion quest into the mod. By the way, if someone is actually reading this, I accidentaly made a mess in dialogue view while writing Mirabelle's dialogue - I wanted to hide one branch to clear my view, but of course, it hid only that colourful box, not everything. And now I have a mess. Anyone knows how to fix it?
  15. Initial post edited to make it easier to read and find useful information. Progress: Finished drafts for promotion quests (Apprentice, Evoker, Scholar, Wizard). Ready to implant them through CK to the game. Finished drafts for side quests: The last stand, The last men standing, The last wish (all quests are optional and may not appear if chosen wrong options). Ready to implant them through CK to the game. Plans: Finish the draft for Sorcerer. Help would be appreciated and would smooth the whole process! If someone has time to check the drafts and tell me what should be better, please, give me your e-mail and I will send you the file with the drafts. If someone is good with meshes and textures and has nothing to do at the moment, I'd like to ask for creating an artefact. Thank you!
  16. Then I have no other help for you: try an old good way of fixing things... and turn off some mods. See if anything is working without them, if not, put them back on and turn off others. This way you may find what is bugged. Or uninstall all mods and try installing them in small groups while checking if the game is running. EDIT. I think you can ignore mods you know they should be working properly.
  17. This is very strange. I've been also using many additional resources from Nexus and never had such problem. Sorry, but I have to ask you (perhaps it's stupid, but you never know): are those files you are using (meshes, textures) in right folders? (in Data directory, then textures and meshes folders) I know it's stupid, but it's better to ask. Anyway, maybe you should try a different approach? Save those items in another esp and then use this esp as a required file? It sounds too easy, but who knows, maybe it will help.
  18. I don't know if this will help, but have you tried TES5Edit? It helped me a lot - if something is wrong, it will tell you. Or show you that here you have a fatal error.
  19. Have you tried Safety Load mod? It blocks the infinite loading screen. It's here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/46465/
  20. Depends on what you mean. Do you want to create new clothes from the scratch (new meshes, new textures) or only change properties of clothes in the game? If you want to create new clothes from the scratch, you will need NifSkope (as far as I know this is necessary), but I heard you can play with Blender too. There are plenty of tutorials how to make meshes for Skyrim. Then you will have to make textures for them - you can use Gimp for that (or some similar programs that can read dds files). This is all I can tell you right now since I'm also a beginner and I have just gathered tutorials to learn from them :P Good luck with your mods if you really start making them! Gods know we need more original clothing in Skyrim ;)
  21. Honestly, I thought there will no reply at all :P As I mentioned, my prime target is to stop this ridiculous big promotion Student -> Archmage. That's why I intend to change how this mod with Tolfdir works (it allows you to chose him as the Archmage, so after change there won't be any choice at all if you're not a Sorcerer). I thought about diplomatic quests, though I'm a little afraid to venture there too much because of others questlines - I just don't want to mess it up. I'm already messing up with Clavicus Vile and he is just first on the long list of Daedra that you as a mage will have to deal with. If you have some specific diplomatic quest ideas (a simple draft like one or two sentences will be enough), please, write it here and I will store it on my main computer on which I'm working (stupid no-Internet at home). Hm. Improving the Court Mages position may be a bit tricky since it is already mixed with Fame (as a Wizard) and Grand Fame (as a Sorcerer) - I wanted them to treat you respectively to your rank in the College. Though perhaps some additional, even personal side quest should appear as you become more experienced? I need to note that down. The problem with radiant quests is that they feature: "go to A, defeat guy B, bring me C". It's... well... boring. And I think they include Dwemer, so it wouldn't be that dangerous. It's not tough to kill something, but I thought about keeping something alive for a while... No, sorry. As you see, I don't have yet any specific ideas about these. Thank you for your post and for your help! :) Noting your nickname down should the mod actually appear one day.
  22. EDIT. Changed this post to make it more clear. Hello! As you can see, I am relatively new to the forum, though I have been using mods from Nexus for years now. Just a quick warning: for as long as I can remember, I have a big problem with English grammar. So, sorry for mistakes. But straight to the point. A few days ago, I started working on a big project for the College of Winterhold mod that would change... well, most of it. I don't plan on changing the main plot itself but making joining the guild more useful and fun. How did it start? My main targets are: *quests that allow you to rise in the ranks of the College (from Student to Apprentice, etc.) *special side quests (not radiant) that will become available as you become more important *impossibility of becoming an Archmage before acquiring the rank of the Sorcerer (Tolfdir in your place if you finish the main plot sooner) *more dialogues to make it roleplaying-friendly *creating a real Arcanaeum (which involves copying no longer used books from Daggerfell and Morrowind and writing my own to fill all shelves) *hidden quests that will be open by choosing correct dialogue options *new treasures and artifacts As you see, I'm facing a real challenge and the fact I have no idea how to deal with scripts in CK doesn't help at all. I decided to start with promotion quests and it's going quite well for a moment. But you probably wonder what is this whole topic about. I would like to ask you all for help. For tips from veterans of modding. For simple ideas. I don't ask you to make the mod for me - any help will be welcome, but this is my burden to carry. I don't promise to finish it, but I will try my best. Still, I know that fighting with big dragons of challenge on your own usually ends in failure. This is why this topic. If you're interested in helping, keep reading. If not, thank you for your time. For now, everything I have is on paper - planned and ready to be implanted into reality as soon as I have enough to make a Demo version of the mod (probably involving only promotion quests). I'm going to use the mod Not So Fast and modify the one allowing you to chose Tolfdir as the Archmage. What I have at the moment: (Edited 09.09.18) For every help and word of encouragement - thank you! What kind of help do I need? From whole drafts (everything explained, described, etc.) to simple one-two senctenced ideas. IN WHAT I COULD USE HELP WITH: Side quests - from easy to hard, might be connected with other mages in the College. Radiant quests - I have them mostly planned out, but it you have something great on the mind, don't be shy and share! Artefacts - ideas for them (textures and meshes are very welcome!) Diplomatic quests - suggested by Alexandrina. Quests involving you representing the College - other than diplomatic. Book writing - more of less lore-friendly books for quests and for Arcanaeum. It might be about science, magic, races, alchemy, history, traditions, etc. It might be even fiction  THANK YOU! Alexandrina - for good ideas IsharaMeradin - for help with scripts foamyesque - for help with scripts cdcooley - for help with scripts Magistrate2020 - for permission to mess with his mod :P
  23. Hi there! Impressive mod, though I'm more impressed with your willpower to continue making it for so long :) I just went back to good old Skyrim and I'm thinking about trying the Prologue of your mod... right after I'll fix every 5 minutes crash -.-' (too many mods I guess). Anyway, I wanted to congratulate you and offer some help - I'm a terrible graphic designer (frankly, I have no skills at this field at all), but I write a lot and I have been told to have a talent, so perhaps I could aid you somehow. Why I'm offering? I'm too lazy to study, but happy to help with anything that is connected with games :P I also have some experience with Construction Set. I'm just offering, of course. You can ignore it :D Won't blame you ;) Good luck with your mod! :)
