I think upgrading armour and weapons yourself and not being able to pay a blacksmith to do it was a poor move by Bethesda. You should be able to pay a blacksmith to upgrade your weapons and armour for you, possibly even wait a few hours / days depending on which level of upgrade your going to. Is there a mod like this already? or could someone create one?
