  1. TES5Edit doesn't work on mac, and it doesn't work with wine/cider either. Anyway, glad to see we're using a lot of the same mods  I'm on almost exactly the same system you are, specs and everything. I run between 30 and 50 mods. I can get away with 100+ mods on Oblivion, but I will get CTD's as soon as I get to around 75 mods on Skyrim. It's going to take you hours to find the conflict on a Mac... and it might not even be a specific conflict. Figure out how many of these mods add scripts or require simultaneous script functions. CTD's on my iMac, when they're not caused by conflicts, are caused by script overload. So I would either give up on using this many mods, or transfer your data folder over to a PC and run TES5Edit to check everything out... then WB to make a patch if possible, then transfer all of it back over to your iMac and write the new bashed patch into plugins.txt. If you don't have a PC then I think you might be hopeless with this many mods.
  2. this video doesn't solve anything. he literally didn't do anything that wasn't already self-explanatory. i still haven't figured out the problem with the cider version on TPB, but it just won't run mods or DLC or even the official update at all. i've created a plugins.txt, a DLClist.txt, a loadorder.txt. then i've modified Skyrim.INI, Skyrimprefs.INI, Skyrim_default.INI, and so on, to allow data files selection, still won't work. my load order is 100% fine. i did this exactly the same way i did a cider version of oblivion. oblivion worked fine, every mod worked perfectly. obviously still can't do SKSE or ENB but it's not a huge deal. what is a huge deal is that this version of skyrim seems to be stunted. it won't load any of the updates, patches, or mods, period. i've been modding oblivion for a long time so i know that i'm not doing anything wrong. i've looked at every thread regarding skyrim on mac, on this forum, and haven't found any answers that weren't simplistic and obvious. the problem seems to be much deeper than people assume. this isn't a basic beginner mistake or something. the game can't even recognize DLC, which is pretty serious. my solution is to download the latest windows legendary edition, basically. i haven't finished this yet but i expect it to work. i'm simply going to replace all of the key program files, especially .ini's, with the new legendary files. all i'm going to keep from the cider version is my save files and mods. the trick to this is really simple, to anyone who's still looking for an answer. all you have to do is find a windows version of the legendary edition (NOT an .iso or anything that uses a launcher). this means you have to either pirate the game illegally or use a PC to install your purchased copy, then copy the files from your PC to your mac. an "installation launcher" absolutely will not work. neither will an ISO disk image. if you don't have a PC then your only option is to pirate a complete, installed version of the game. i know a lot of people make mistakes at this point... you have to check the torrent's file contents before you waste time downloading it. if the contents include an ISO or anything that says Install, don't download it. you will want to download a torrent that has a file called The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, and within it you'll see all the same files and folders your cider version has, including DATA and all that other stuff. if you can't find what i'm talking about, email me at [email protected] and i will personally send you the link... but you can't just replace everything. you have to maintain the same folder hierarchy that you have in the cider version. for example, in the windows version, the folder you have called %USERPROFILE% or whatever will probably say someone's name, or User. since the cider version was built on the hierarchy that comes with the cider version, all of the folders have to keep their names. so again you will be dragging files into folders, rather than overwriting entire folders. you only want to overwrite individual files, not folders. never drag a folder into another folder unless that folder name doesn't already exist. if it asks you to overwrite a folder, always say no. you don't want to delete anything, you just want to overwrite the important files... the prepacked cider version is from 2011. it's old... i think build 1.3 or something. you can theoretically update it to build 1.9.something, but i haven't been able to get the game to recognize the patch at all. that's why i'm doing all this... a lot of the DLC is dependent on that update. i think all of it is, actually. so you are going to HAVE to fix this problem. so you're gonna replace all the key files of your cider version. you're basically dragging the new windows copy of the game, all of its folders, into the existing cider wrapper directory. the cider wrapper should still work for all these new files. i haven't checked it yet, but the game hasn't been changed that fundamentally so it shouldn't make a difference. with the new build you should be able to get all DLC and mods working properly. the cider version from TPB intentionally left out plugins.txt, DLClist.txt etc. i don't know why, i guess the compiler was an idiot and it never occurred to him that people might want to update and mod his game. it seems like no big deal; you can easily just create these files, there's nothing special about them. but there's something else causing the game to be broken, and i flat out can't figure out what it is :/ i've looked through just about every important file that pertains to this issue and i can't determine the difference between it and the normal windows version. my theory when i first noticed this was that maybe the plugins.txt and DLClist.txt can't be loaded by the game if you've edited them manually. maybe this specific version requires you to set the load order in the launcher, which you obviously can't use in cider. it's not giving me the reset problem, obviously. it only seems to do that on windows... so it's not the "read only" issue. i'm not making any mistakes here, as you can tell. see, i thought maybe it was just impossible because it won't let me enter the Data Files window of the launcher, and editing the plugins list manually doesn't seem to have any effect on the game. i've put massive overhauls and small mods alike, and nothing works. again, not even the DLC. so i thought maybe this is just broken... and yet i see other people managing to do it fine. people leave out the most vital information in their posts, and are purely self-serving most of the time, so as soon as they solve their problem they just say bye and disappear, instead of saying how they fixed it, what version they had, where they got it, and generally giving information that would help other people. for this reason i have no idea if anyone else is even using the same cider wrapper and build that i'm using. because i can't tell who's got what, i have no idea if anyone with the same cider wrapper actually got it working. nevertheless, people are getting DLC and patches and mods to work on wineskin/cider in general, which means it's possible. that's led me to believe that it's not completely broken on mac; it's just my build or wrapper that's messed up. so i'm going to try a new build, and if that doesn't work i'm going to simply make my own wrapper. i will try to post back if i figure this out. if you need help with something just email me. here's my email again: [email protected] Banned -DrGrimm
  3. no, no, no. first of all, you don't need to underscore in place of spaces in the plugins.txt file. that's just not true. second, .esm files ALWAYS go before .esp files. Skyrim.esp HAS TO GO FIRST. DLC and UPDATES come second. after that, you can put in any .esm's for mods. after all the .esm's, you can put in .esp's. you can consult a boot order guide on placing those. make sure you put any official .esp's before any mod/unofficial .esp's, EXCEPT for anything modifying vanilla scripts, like those mods that improve your fps and s#*! like that. third, if you're on a mac, DO NOT OVERWRITE FOLDERS. our installation is different from a windows installation. if you drag a mod's "Data" folder into your skyrim folder, all of the files that were in "Data" previously will be erased. on a mac, when you overwrite a folder, you don't just overwrite the files within it with the files in your new folder. no, no, no. the entire folder, and all of its contents, get replaced. so any files inside the folder previously will be removed. if you did this on a mac i feel really sorry for you because you'll now have to copy all the original files back, from a newly unzipped cider/wineskin version of the game. basically, what you need to do is go into each folder and copy ONLY the files to their respective folders. so if you have a Data folder for a mod, then Meshes, then files... you will copy the files inside the Meshes folder, then drag them over to your game's Meshes folder. you never replace/overwrite a folder. you only replace files WITHIN the folders. it's extremely tedious and takes a damn long time if you want to install more than 50 mods. but hey, that's how it is to have a mac. we have it reallllyyyy bad when it comes to this kind of thing. once you've copied all those INDIVIDUAL files over to the folders in which they belong, you obviously drag the .esp into the Data folder. after that you copy the name of the file (no underscores, come on) and paste it in your plugins.txt. you have the right idea, you just weren't aware that .esm's HAVE to go first. they're the base game files, really. to anyone else viewing this thread trying to figure out how to do it on a mac, read my instructions carefully. overwriting folders will cost you a LOT of time. be very careful and meticulous about copying files over. always double check what you're doing... make sure you know what it is you're replacing. any time you think you're saving by being willy-nilly about this will cost you double in the time it takes to replace all the s#*! you f*#@ed up.
  4. the above does not help anyone running a cider port. need to find some way to configure an already cidered port with OBSE, because most of us are not using playonmac, it's way too hard to set up. also playonmac oblivion doesn't even work on OSX 10.9, so it's pointless anyway. there's a total dearth of information on this so it's not going to happen unless someone makes a single port, an oblivion launcher with OBSE incorporated in it, then compiled as a single cider application. and since oblivion is an old game it's just probably not gonna happen. the best you can do is install bootcamp (nearly impossible to do on 10.9 without an official windows CD, impossible to fake an official windows CD since most iMac superdrives break after 6 months, i know because i have one) and transfer your data folder over.
  5. The nordic carved armor from skyrim would be GREAT. I wonder how easy it would be for you to port it to oblivion? If you're not aware, this is what I'm referring to: http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130208164403/elderscrolls/images/5/5a/NordicCarvedArmor.png While you're at it, you might as well import dragonbone and daedric armors too, if it's at all possible. The armors from skyrim were among the best of any video game I've ever played, in my opinion. I love Oblivion so much, and due to nostalgia I probably enjoy playing it even more than Skyrim, despite all of Skyrim's improvements. So it pains me that most of Oblivion's vanilla armor is so... well, lame. It'd be cool to add some of the dragon priest masks, too. Also, I'll post images of some other armor sets you could custom-make. You might be able to dig into game files and find the meshes, too, but I have no idea how these games' model systems work. I'll leave that to the experts  PS: I'm talking male versions, by the way. I got no problem with female armor, but I play male characters so I personally want male armor. But you're the one doing alllllllllll the work, so I don't exactly have any bargaining chips  http://i.imgur.com/wAIjD.jpg http://images.mmorpg.com/images/galleries/full/152012/9ee588c9-e7aa-470c-8378-a221b4b63d84.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/oJ2Yv.jpg http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140317222140/darksouls/images/d/db/Dark-souls-ii-11.jpg http://fandomania.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/14/T10_Warrior_Official_Sample-479x400.jpg http://media.mmo-champion.com/images/news/2011/june/tier12/warrior_female_nightelf.jpg http://s3.amazonaws.com/inspiresynergy-duncan/pictures/85234/Untitled_large.jpg http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/211/a/9/wow_paladin_by_haikai13-d4258o0.jpg
  6. I am now primarily playing this game on a macbook pro, so I made a wineskin port for Oblivion and it works beautifully even with max graphics and 100+ mods. But I've not managed to make an OBSE port that actually functions, and as far as I can tell, nor has anyone else. There are quite a few mods which I desperately need OBSE for, but I've had to make do without them. What I'm requesting could come in many forms. Maybe an experienced porter has made a cider OBSE port. That would be a dream come true... but more likely someone has figured out a way to disenchant items without OBSE. A few other things I want would be OBSE-free versions of: multiple enchantments, swapping item stats (damage, armor value, etc) from vanilla items to modded items, etc. I've spent hours and hours looking, and have come to the conclusion that there are tons of ripoffs of the same mod. They all do the same thing with the same scripts, which amazes me. Why would someone remake a mod that already exists, unless they were going to improve or alter its functionality? Not a single modder that's determined to figure it out for those of us who can't run OBSE for whatever reason, which is sad. I'd normally take that as a sign suggesting it's not possible, but it seems like such a simple, fundamental thing. It amazes me that you'd need unlocked scripts to pull it off. In my mind, there should be a way to simply duplicate the selected item from the db with its default stats. If I weren't primarily dealing with modded items, this wouldn't be a problem, as I'd just use the console to generate a "fresh" item. Which brings me to my other question. Is there any easy, ingame means of "looking up" the console codes for modded items? I don't even know how to do this out of game. But since I'm playing a cider port, my version of the game has no windowed functionality. It's running in a virtual machine anyway, so the only way for me to go and "look up" the item code, even if I knew how, would be to save and quit the game, find the code, and start back up. The time expenditure would start to add up in the course of playing. And even then, I still have no way to add multiple enchantments. It's definitely more believable that there's no way to do this without OBSE, and I don't know much about modding Oblivion, but my gut tells me that such a thing should be possible through some means. There are already items in the game with multiple enchantments, so it should be possible to do. The problem is that damned enchanting interface. My intuition is leaning towards a mod that would allow you to use sigil stones or runeskulls or some other item/spell to enchant gear that's already been enchanted the normal way, since the vanilla enchanting interface only permits one effect. But hey, maybe that's impossible. I'm not looking for a non-modder who thinks he knows to tell me that it's impossible. I already know that none of these mods exist, so I know why you'd think it's impossible. I'm looking for an experienced modder, who actually knows the feasibility of such an undertaking. Will the game's code actually allow it, based on your expert opinion? Thanks a bunch in advance if this leads to anyone making a revolutionary non-OBSE mod, of any type really. And thanks a lot for confirming whether or not it's possible, so I can stop wasting my time searching! edit: Oh yeah, shield on back without OBSE would be great too, if it's possible. I know 1h on back is easily possible without OBSE, I use it already. But it doesn't work with the spears from KTSN spear mod, so a mod that would stick those on your back would be excellent. I find it really silly that my spear is constantly clipping underground unless I'm on a mount. Even then, it looks silly sitting on the hip, and it clips into the back of my mammoth, which is even worse than the ground!
