  1. The red box with an '!' is for missing textures the game can't find. The flickering textures is also a symptom. Download this and use it instead. You turn it on once and forget it. Also, are you using FOMM ( Fallout Mod Manager) to install your mods? If not, you should be.
  2. Okay, but do you now have Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common/fallout new vegas/ Data? If you do, then add that textures folder you downloaded into the data folder and you're done.
  3. Where is your FNV game installed? You need to find out where FNV was installed. Is it in your Documents/My Games folder? You need to find it and then follow the steps listed before. If you can't find it, then I don't understand how you are playing the game? If you can't find it, do a re-install and install it in the program files folder.
  4. The folders common/falloutnewvegas/Data should already exit. Do not make new ones of them. I just downloaded the mod. I extracted it to my desktop and it has a folder called textures with a folder called weapons inside. Goto your Steam/SteamApps/common/falloutnewvegas/Data folder and look for a folder called Textures. If it doesn't exist, place the extracted textures folder you downloaded into the Data folder. If the folder Textures already exists, place the folder called weapons inside the existing textures folder. Inside the weapons folder is another folder called 1handpistol. This folder contains all the texture (.dds) files for the 357.
  5. What was the mod that you downloaded----and .esp, or an .esm? If it is an .esm, the textures/meshes would be in a separate .bsa folder found with all the other .bsa folders in the Data folder. If it is in a .bsa folder, it will have to be opened with FOMM and the textures would be inside the .bsa. If the mod was an .esp then the textures would be inside the Data/textures/NameOfMod folder-----if the modder did his folder structure correctly.
  6. If the mod is an .esp that the BAR is in, then go into your Data meshes and textures files, and find the folders containing the mesh and textures for the BAR. You will need to copy/paste this into folders you make for your npc mod ( if they don't already exist).----i.e. Data/textures/NameOfMyNPCMod (the textures .dds files will go here) and Data/meshes/NameOfMyNPCMod (the .nif file will go here). Next you will need to go into Geck and locate the BAR in the weapons and add it to the npc's inventory. It should now be usuable in your game. As long as you don't re-upload your mod without permission from the BAR mod author or NPC mod author if you did not create the npc, you should be okay to use as you wish.
  7. Need some clarification, please. Are you trying to add the weapon to the npc via the geck and it is not showing in game? Or are you giving the npc in-game the weapon? If you are trying to use the geck to add the weapon to an npc in another .esp, then what Quetzsacatanango said is correct. Another option would be to copy/paste the meshes/textures from the Bar mod into your new .esp. If you are trying to give the npc the BAR in-game, then what the others were talking about is correct.
  8. Start here The "C" catagory has about all you need for getting started...good luck!
  9. Changing either your PC's body or a companions body is done with a mod. There are several mods in the model and textures section of the FNVNexus that you simply download and install and they will change the body for you. I hope this was what you are asking about.
  10. Actually this link in the above topic you guys gave to me seems to be the solution. It talks about the updatefacegen problem and having to hand edit the items in FNVEdit. I just did it for Boone's beret (it works! ), but there are dozens of hats and sunglasses that are missing the flag being set as well-----lot's of editing to do, but at least I know the fix now. Thanks!
  11. I have begun testing my new mod and when it loads, Boone's beret hangs off one ear. Without my mod, his hat is normal. Where should I start looking to find out what the cause may be---my mod adds new npc's, but I haven't messed with Boone at all. I have re-texed a combat armor helmet (which does not do this) and some armors/outfits, but I don't think this is the cause. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  15. Happy New Year Bud!!...don't go too crazy, but have a good one non the less...:)
  16. Could you please provide more information?...Is this a new install of FOMM? If it is, you probably need to use the regular launcher to open your data files and make sure all your files are checked (FOMM doesn't initially 'check' all your files and you may need to do it manually). If you can't even open FOMM without it crashing, it may have been a bad install and you may want to re-install. The best place to look if you are having an issue is in the comments section of the mod itself as the issue may have been discussed and a solution listed there. Good luck.
  17. Download Fallout Mod Manager and let it do all the work for you----use the package manager button to get to the place to extract and activate any mod. http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36901 If you do not want to do this....extract all the files from a mod and place them in the Data folder, then check the mod in the data section when you launch the game.
  18. This is the Geck you need ( First one)---do not download the update.....it is for FO3 only.......good luck. http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/downloads/geck.html
  19. This is the best FO3Edit tutorial available out there and it should apply to FNVEdit as well because it is almost the same program. This is the most important tool a modder can have! http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8629 Yeah I've looked through the parts of that faq that had "merge" in them and none of them specifically gave a tutorial on how to "merge plugins". I don't suppose you'd know whether there is in fact a part of the faq that actually talks about that? No, I do not...I use it mostly to clean my mods before uploading them.......sorry.
  20. Sounds like you may not have the plugins loaded correctly...I use gimp and the location is kinda hard to find....GIMP-2.0/lib/gimp/2.0/plugins. Not sure where it goes in photoshop.

  22. You are going to need 2 plugins to do textures. You are going to need a .dds plugin to open the files---I use GIMP but they make one for photoshop too and you will need a 'normal map' plugin---this is to manipulate the gloss/texture layer of the .dds. You can probably do a search and find the plugins. Also you might want to download one of Miax's manuals found HERE to help you along. It talks about the GIMP, but the approach in photoshop is the same. Good luck and have fun.
