  1. At my wits end here, nifskope doesn't want to load up "any" texture no matter what mesh I load up. I've told it where to find the textures yet the meshes still come up void of texture. Here I thought it was just a max nif tools problem. I was following a tutorial but got stuck half way when he started talking about copyig the bslighting property as I said, no textures will show. This is frustrating.
  2. Thank you for clearing that up, I had thought the burnt texture was from the fire logs lol. I'm still struggling with importing CBBE or UNP into max with normal skin textures. The vanilla models import fine, both male and female but both CBBE and UNP don't and that's what I'm trying to fix. I'd like to make my own body re-placer since I have a few ideas and some experiments I'd like to try. I wasn't sure how those aforementioned authors increased the poly counts on their models but the density is a good starting place for me to have fun with.
  3. Thank you for a kind reply, I was half expecting a snarky reply telling me to "search" before posting. I do that ofcourse. I'll be keeping an eye on this aswell, adding the texture directory directly into the niftools.ini didn't make a difference.
  4. I've extracted the BSA's to separate folder so I can work on things without interfering with mods that are installed. The vanilla female mesh loads up in max properly with correct textures however loading either UNP or CBBE, max wants to apply the burnt log texture. It does this with hands and feet to so I'm wondering what have I missed? Is it because it's a custom mesh so max doesn't know where to find the texture and gives it a default one?
  5. What I have is: Acer aspire 5560G-sb413 AMD Quad A6-3400M (1.4Ghz- Turbo 2.3Ghz) AMD Radeon HD6540G2 1Gb dedicated 8 Gb 1333Mhz Win7 home premium 64bit I REALLY need some help on this, does anyone have a similar laptop and would you please advise me on what settings/mods you use to get the best performance/visuals. I've gone through the STEP instructions and tweaked Skyrim accordingly. The auto detect set it to high but my fps gave me an average of 15 on the run from Helgan to Riverwood. After some further tweaking I managed to get that average up to 17-20 on the same run. I know this is still going to be too low when it comes to things like civil war battles and the heavy places like Markarth and the Rift. No mods installed yet and I really don't want to have to drop my settings to low just for smooth play.
  6. Same thing here Pogono, I initially had BOSS installed to c drive and installing wrye it showed up but when BOSS updated to a new version the icon vanished. I'm running BOSS 2.0.1 and wrye smash 295.5, BOSS is installed directly into my skyrim folder yet no icon in wyre. I tried adding the path to the config file like the readme says but it still doesn't show.
  7. Ok thanks! I have Skyedit but it looked rather confusing, i'll take a look at snip. Thanks again for the quick replies!
  8. I've been hunting around and yet to find something that operates the same as FNVEdit. I want to be able to open esp's and compare record data. I have Wrye smash, SkyEdit but niether of those seem to work the same. My lack of knowledge I suspect. The thing I'm looking for is a program that let's me load up an esp and have a quick comparison view of the records the esp has changed or added, like FNVEdit did. Is there such a program or is it in the works?
  9. Was Adobe Flash/Scalform also use to make the borders of the world map? We all know there's more landmass outside of Skyrim and I for one would like to pan the camera beyond those borders to view some mod ideas I have.
  10. I made an NPC as a starting point for my quest but I can't figure out how to get it to start in the position I want. The NPC is supposed to be the victem of a robbery so it starts out already dead. I want it to be chained or tied to a tree but when I place it, it always starts in a nuetral pose, since I can't pose it directly I chose a torturevictem animation but it doesn't take. I looked through everything here on NPC's and found nothing about this. Have I used the wrong search term?
  11. Just created my first npc, he's already dead so nothing real special about him but I wondered if there's a way to pose them or is it all done with idle markers? I want him pinned to a tree stump, is this possible?
  12. Ahh ok thanks. I figured I'd have to wait for patches just wasn't sure. The arrow thing is not a game breaker so time to move on to more modding.
  13. I've seen some disscussions about some of the windows not displaying properly but so far no solutions. For me it's the referance window so far that looks like the contents are too large and since these windows can't be resized this creates a problem with editing. Oddly this happens on my desktop but not on my laptop, any ideas why? Another issue, aside from the normal warnings that pop up at load there's one that happens whenever I exit the ck and it's about forms leaked during cleardata. Seems to be a memory leak of some kind. And lastly, not so much an issue but rather my lack of CK knowledge, I was attempting to add arrows to the forge list and couldn't get them to show in the appropriate sections. Started with steel arrows, got them into the game but they show up in the misc section and I couldn't find the list that tells what appears where. The GECK for NV was easy to add new recipies and assign them to the right sections or even make my own sections but it's not so simple with this.
  14. Aye I was browsing some other forums on the subject, my main reason is so I can take the game with me to the trailer and packing up my desktop each just seems like a hassle. I don't suppose there's a desktop build I could find that would be fairly portable?
  15. The point is that texture mods cost performance and memory, and you wont be having that much of that with mobility GPUs. You will play fine on stock settings though. Hell, im playing with a GTX 560 Ti 1Gb, on a 17 inch monitor, and my vRAM usage goes to 950Mb all the time, without texture mods (actually one, for the sky textures). DONT go Quadro for gaming. For quadro cards you pay a very, very high price for OpenGL features (quad buffers) that you dont use in gaming. They're high priced cuz they perform better in aspects that pure brute force of common cards doesnt cut it. For example, you can bet that rendering on Maya and 3D Max on that card will be faster than in the 560M, even if that Quadro 1000M has actually half the shaders/cuda cores than a 560M (192 against 96). But for gaming its a different story. You'd getting the performance of a GT525M (pratically same specs as the Quadro 1000M, 96 shaders for both, Quadro is at 700Mhz, 525M is at 600Mhz) with that quadro card for gaming. So better go with the 560M (192 shaders, 700Mhz, wider memory bus, etc). I knew they were good for animation programs but I always just figured they'd be good for gaming to. Well I guess the Asus is the route to go. It fits my budget, has some good specs to. I got a couple months to find a better deal still, ty for the assistance in this delicate matter.
