  1. Long story short I'm on my first playtrough and I'm playing as a dunmer assassin/spellsword hybrid Skills I devote perks to are one handed, archery, light armor, illusion and sneak I was thinking of utilizing another magic school, possibly conjuration or alteration, since I devoted many points to magicka and my character is supposed to be a hybrid of assassin and mage. I'm open to suggestions both for statistical reasons or simply because a certain skill could fit this type of character's narrative Also there's skills like speechcraft that i have at high levels but don't get perks because I don't find it necessary. My character is level 35, with dark brotherhood completed but other guilds and main quest have barely started.
  2. I actually already used those methods and saw that page before even playing the game. So basically I just have to accept the game is slightly buggy right? It's not game breaking or anything I'm just a bit picky. I was a bit afraid it was because of the specs
  3. So basically are you saying that the microstutter is a normal feature of the game? I notice no other game stutters like skyrim, I can even play more demanding games and it will run with less FPS but no stutter or lag
  4. So I have a problem with suttering when playing Skyrim. I will proceed to describe the problem as detailed as possible PC (Laptop): Intel Core i5-7200U 2.5GHz Nvidia GTX 950M 2GB dedicated VRAM 8GB DDR4 Memory 1000GB HDD Windows 10 64 bit operating system I'm playing Skyrim, Legendary edition. I installed it in my C unit as I have no other unit but OUTSIDE of the C program files by creating a separate file named "Skyrim". I proceeded to install nexus mod manager, then skyrim script extender, and finally I installed a few plugins/mods such as SkyUI, crashfixes and the better map mod. When playing the game it set my default graphics to high so I'm playing mostly with everything on high/ultra. The problem experience: When I'm playing the game, specially when I'm running (mostly outside but also sometimes inside cities) the game seems to suddenly drop from 60FPS to like 55-56 and this causes a stutter, as if the game froze for a second or so. Sometimes it's lighter, other times it's heavier. Most of the time the game is at 60FPS and never drops below that, but when it does it stutters a bit I experience this primarily when I'm sprining (both on foot and horse) and when I'm inside a building and quickly leave a room to enter another it also happens sometimes There are two things I'd like to add that might be relevant: Oblivion is an older game and stutters considerably as well, maybe even more. I have no idea why I tried lowering the settings but the suttering persists equally, as if nothing had changed I wanted to find a solution, I appreciate advice if anyone has any idea what I should do Sorry if there's any error english isn't my native language
  5. Hey thanks for the advice to both. I'll try to see if it works (Tomorrow) - I plan on installing a few mods (if the game ever works decently), mostly to improve combat and probably some better animations, faces, bodies and so on, but I don't plan on installing MGO
  6. I am able to run Oblivion decently on medium settings with about 25-60 FPS, but Morrowind runs terribly. Here's the specs: Sony VAIO CPU Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.2Ghz GPU Intel HD 2000 (Before anyone says anything I had an integrated graphics 3 generations older that could run Morrowind at 30-60 FPS) RAM 4GB Windows 7 64bit Home Premium The game is the GOTY edition and I don't have any mods installed, it's the vanilla version. The game runs decently inside buildings but outside runs at about 15-20 FPS, sometimes lower than 10, no matter what settings I choose (Lower settings seems to increase slightly performance but not nearly enough). I've also tried to use the FPS optimizer with no result. Can anyone help me, please?
  7. I figured I can beat her at level 16 without any tricks, just straightfoward combat with my heaviest armor and powerful weapons, as well as some restoration spells. Side question - Is there a way I can turn into a vampire and to get really ugly with a wrinkled face?
  8. I should have mentioned already that I have the quest award leveler so weapons like shadowhunt level up as I do. I'm now level 16. Should I get umbra right now or should I wait until I can do the quest?
  9. Hey this is my first time trough Oblivion, I'm playing as a female dark elf with the mage birthsign and the crusader class. I was looking for some tips and to get some questions answered. I'm level 12 with already some good equipment and I'm relatively familiar with the layout and engine of the game. I'm also halfway trough the mages guild quest, almost over with the thieves guild, halfway trough the darkbrotherhood and in the beginning of the fighters guild quest. I'm also a member of the arena and I've advanced two ranks (can't remember the name of the rank) and I haven't started the main quest yet. Here's a short list of my equipment (weapons, armour and shields): Weapons - Chillrend, Dragonsword of Lainlyn, Glass bow, Shadowhunt, Elven war axe, mages staff (fire), slutterhorn, blade of woe Armour and shields - Dwarven cuirass, orcish "pants" and helmet, steel gauntlets, mithril boots, boots of the bloody bounding, boots of the cheetah, cruelty's heart, escutheon of chorrol and some rings and other necklaces that are useful Major skills - Blade, hand to hand, blunt, destruction, restoration, heavy armour, athletics Questions: - When should I start the main storyline? - Should I keep shadowhunt or enchant the glass bow I've found? If so, what enchantment? My strongest soul gem is a "greater" sould - I have room for 280 but I'm already occupying 220, I need to store something, where can I store items (I fear I might forget where they are at)? - Are the two swords I have good enough or should I enchant my own? - What enchantment would fit better my axe?
  10. Good evening. When one wants to follow the glorious path of PC gaming, deskops win by far because of (1) Upgrade-ability (2) Price (3) Performance (most important I guess)... Despite this, I have several reasons that do not allow me to build or buy my desktop and so my best bet for the next couple of years would be a laptop with reasonable hardware. I will ignore any comments telling me to buy a desktop since I'm already making a point that I can't, unless I had enough money to buy both a desktop and a laptop at the same time. The reasons that stop me from buying/building a desktop are mostly related to portability, not gaming portability but because I need my personal computer to fulfil tasks either when I'm working or when I'm at college, a desktop will not allow me to lead my daily life comfortably and productively. That being said, I mostly play RPG's like Skyrim, Oblivion and I'd like to try Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas. I also play Age of Empires, some Civilization, sometimes I'll play some stealth titles - But I don't demand to play all the recent games or anything like that - I only need a mid-ranged laptop with a decent graphics card (dedicated memory) - I've been looking at the Nvidia geforce GTM 840M 2DDR - It's mid ranged and will allow for the experience I'm looking for. Most other games I play are older games I used to play on the PS2 and will work fine on any modern discrete graphics card. I'm also not exactly rich and my country has been going trough a deep economical and financial crisis since 2008 onwards so I have no problem in admitting I can't afford something too expensive, gaming is, as it has been said, a luxury and I've got to go with what I can afford ATM - Something between 500$ - 800$ is what my current budget will allow and no more than that - My currency is € but feel free to present the value in US$ if you wish too. Keep in mind that games like Morrowind or Oblivion only work on one core, so I'll need to be careful when choosing the CPU, taking into account that Oblivion runs well on 3.0Ghz speed according to the recommended system requirements... So basically, CPU wise, a mid-ranged core i5 will do the job I think. RAM memory is fine if it is 4 or 8 and the traditional screen size for laptops (15'6 I think) is also enough for me. I'm not crazy by graphics and I prefer having high FPS (60+) although some games look fine with an average of 30, and the minimal resolution I demand is 1024x760. I'd like if I could play Skyrim at ultra-settings but high isn't bad either A question - What is turbo boost and how does it work? Let's say the speed is 2.0 and turbo is 3.0 - What does that mean? Thanks in advance for everyone that may bring suggestions
  11. I'll be sure to check youtube videos on the gameplay of those games, though I doubt some of them like Fallout 3 or Darksouls will run satisfactorily on my laptop. Old school RPG's will probably work fine. Most games made until 2006 run above 30 FPS, but it depends on the game. Getting the occasional 25 FPS during combat is ok for me, but I prefer if games run at a steady 30 or 40, and if possible 60 of course but that is harder. Some games are playable on higher settings, for instance Half Life 2 runs at 60 FPS and 40 during large combats. A lot of people have somehow a slight misconception with the most recent integrated graphics - They are not good for gaming at all, but saying they are incapable of running 3D games is just wrong, most games I listed except maybe for AOEII run fine and are 3D, I just can't play demanding games. I won't be able to play any of those games right now since my laptop is actually with a technician because the keyboard is corrupt, I spilled water in it accidentally - I want to build my own desktop, but b sides the work it takes I don't have enough funds right now, I don't have any problem in admitting I can't afford it yet and I better try to deal with the situation with my Sony Vaio until I can get a good desktop - Some people don't even own a PC so I always look at the positive side. Baulders Gate is actually a game I've been wanting to play for a while, but I've heard mixed reviews on it - Some people say it's boring, others say it's the best RPG of all time. Thanks for the recommendations, Vagrant0
  12. Since it's my first time trough Oblivion I'll share my only character: - Like Skyrim, the first hero I chose for Oblivion was a dark orc - This time it was a female - Her name's Kaguya (taken' from the manga/anime Naruto - I like using japanese anime names for my videogame characters, but female names sometimes sound unappealing - This one sounded like a goddess/warrior's name so I liked it). She is not overly attractive or sexualized like other female characters (I'm a straight male), but she does look fairly attractive and badass, dark blue skin, red eyes and a haircut with really long hair tied all the way to the back of the head. She isn't particularly intelligent or agile, but she does pack quite a punch - Her physical strength is enormous, as well as endurance, she does pretty well with the chillrend sword (which I came across by pure luck) as well as the escutheon of chorrol shield (her block skill is not high, so a good shield is important). She also excels a lot in destructive magic, using fireballs and her own mages staff to blast enemies, as well as electric shock and ice attacks. Restoration is also good, she uses it frequently during battles to restore health, as well as the occasional hand to hand combined with purely magic offensive attack and some blunt weapons like axes. Despite not being very good with other skills, she learned enough to steal moderately well, as well as too sneak properly and complete quests decently for the dark brotherhood and thieves guild. Illusion is one of those minor skills that she masters specially well, using the captivate spell to persuade people. She wears currently a dwarven armor, steel greaves, leather gauntlets and some special boots she got in some quests which increase skills, as well as a helmet that increases magicka (combined with her 50%+ magicka from the mage sign she's a beast). She also likes wearing the dark brotherhood armor and hood, and she travels using her horse shadowmere She makes her living trough quests money, as well as stealing - Except for the dark brotherhood, she doesn't kill any people unless she is threatened, and there is no bounty over her head - She steals when people are asleep to prevent being discovered and then sells the stolen items over a fence. She doesn't kill out of nothing, but if you mess with her your head will be ripped off, such as it happened with the orc who tried to rob me in the middle of the road. Apart from the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves guild, she's a part of the Mages guild and Fighters guild (for the last, she only completed one or two quests). The thieves guild is probably the institution she is progressing more and more. The dark brotherhood was her major strength but she hasn't completed missions since she killed (SPOILER) everyone in the hideout and got shadowmere after. She's not very smart and not very captivating, her speechcraft skills sucks, but why care about it with so much brute strength? :P She's currently level 10.

    Hello!

Hi, I joined a few days ago but I didn't realize there was actually an introductory section. I'm a 20 year old male studying law in college, I come from Europe (I won't reveal which country I'm from). I've been gaming since I was about 5 years old, from PC gaming to gameboy colour and advance, to the PS2, PS3 and now some more PC. Favourite videogame series: Metal Gear Solid - In particular MGS2 Hitman series - In particular Blood Money Age of Empires - I love both II and III Tomb Raider - My favourites are still II and III Splinter Cell series - Chaos Theory is my favourite Half Life series - I slightly prefer the original over HL2 and the episodes God of War series - God of War II Devil May Cry series - Both DMCIII and DMCIV Uncharted series - UCII Rayman series - Rayman 2 and 3 Resident Evil series - RE4 Lately I've been exploring RPG's and I've been playing a little of Deus Ex (original) as well as Oblivion, I also tried to run Morrowind but it lags like hell and has low FPS. I'm also a fan of anime and manga, as well as a music lover. I also love cinematography and filmography, and I spend lots of time watching series and films/movies. My favourite series up to today was Breaking Bad My favourite movies were "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, Goodfellas and many more So again, Hello and I hope my time here is long and amusing
  14. May I ask what are your computers specs? I suffered from stuttering but I managed to fix it with the stutter remover as well as some ini tweaks mainly related to sound, and I have a very low end laptop. I, like you, understand the necessity of having a laptop for work (in my case, for college) and it sucks that you can't have a desktop, since it would be costly to buy both a laptop and a desktop - The next time research more, some laptops with decent prices (under 1000€) come with mid ranged graphic cards that should be able to run Oblivion and even Skyrim. Heck a friend of mine bought a HP laptop for 400€ and he can run Skyrim on high settings. Oblivion isn't optimized to use more than one processor, IMO my problem with Oblivion is not necessarily my Intel HD 2000 but rather my CPU speed, since each of my cores only has 2.2Ghz and the game recommends 3.0Ghz - I'm assuming I'm not using both processors since I have a dual core. I too am trying to build a desktop but it takes lots of research and information - Mounting is no problem because I have a relative who will help me, but he doesn't game so he can't help me picking up the pieces. For now I'll have to set with my laptop, which is enough for some casual gaming and does every other task just fine.
  15. Hello. I have a low end laptop (for gaming, but it is sweet for everything else I need it for), it's a Sony Vaio - I was thinking if someone had any suggestions about any not very demanding games that are worth playing. I have a preference for action/adventure, stealth, strategy and RPG games similar to The Elder Scrolls series. Specs: CPU - Intel Pentium Dual Core B960 2.2 Ghz GPU - Intel HD 2000 RAM - 4GB Screen - 1366x768 as maximum resolution Examples of games that I can run (so that everyone has an idea on how "powerful" my laptop is): Strategy - AOE and AOEII (ultra settings), AOEIII (medium/high settings, medium resolution); CIV IV (High settings, high resolution, but not maxed out completely) Action Adventure - All Tomb Raider games up to anniversary (Both Legend and Anniversary run at high settings); all GTA games up to San Andreas Stealth - All Splinter cells up to Double Agent, all Hitman games up to Blood Money, all Thief games up to Deadly Shadows First Person Shooter - Half Life 1 and 2 (HL2 runs almost at ultra settings except for the AA that is turned off), Return to Castle Wolfenstein RPG - Oblivion runs fine on medium settings after some tweaks, Morrowind lags and has low FPS for some strange reason, Skyrim will probably be unplayable unless I want headaches as a bonus. Any game similar to TES series that is not very graphically intensive will be welcomed (at most, as intensive as Oblivion). Deus Ex (original) runs fine with mods too PS - By running a game I mean I can run them with playable FPS ranging from 25 to more than 100
  16. I didn't actually edit the controls in-game so I'm not sure if there's an option to change "Exit" to another key - If there isn't, I'll recommend going to the ini file and searching the configuration you seek to change. Just go to "My Computer" (If you are on windows 7), documents, games, search for oblivion and edit the ini file. Don't edit the ini that you're presented with the game's folder because the saves you make won't be changed
  17. Hey there. I'm running Oblivion and I'm experience what seems to be some kind of micro-stuttering problem - I'm playing on a low end laptop and I reckon it may be the problem, but still I'm hopeful some solution will come up. Specs: CPU - Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.2GhZ (seems to exceed the recommended requirements) GPU - Intel HD 2000 integrated graphics card (The worst part but it supports directX 9.0) RAM - 4GB OS - Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit - I installed the game on a custom folder created by me to avoid putting it on the programs x86 - I installed Oblivion Mod Manager, as well as OBSE - I am using streamline2.1 as well as Oblivion Stutter Remover - B sides being able to cap my FPS, it doesn't seem to help me at all - Other mods I am using - Unofficial patch, Quest Award Leveler, Low Poly Grass, Quiet Feet, Optimized View Distance. I am not using any graphics overhaul - I am playing on medium settings with FPS ranging from 25 to 65 (if I disable V-synch sometimes I'll get 120 FPS). Here is a brief description of my settings: Texture - Medium Resolution - 1024x768 (sometimes I play on 800x600, but no change) View distance - Maxed out (lowering it doesn't seem to change anything, I'll get stuttering on minimal view distance) - I have Distant Buildings, Lands and Trees off Shadows - Minimal Water and water effects/reflections - Normal HDR and Bloom - Off Combat Blood - Low AA and AF - Off V-synch - On (Turning it off raises stuttering) All other view distances are set to default (usually about a 1/3) except character, grass and trees distance that is set to 2/3 (again lowering doesn't make a difference) When stuttering happens: - Mostly inside cities during daytime, and happens more often when I'm around NPC's. I also happens when I'm riding horses, but not as much since I installed the low footsteps. It may happen from time to time outside cities but it is more rare. Even during combat it never stutters or lags - Being on 3rd person view seems to trigger a massive stuttering a lot worse than when I'm on First person view (I don't know why) but even on 1st Person View the stuttering is annoying - Weirdly, the more time I play in a row (about one hour or so) seems to decrease a little the stuttering involved - Nothing I tried seems to work, at most I will get more FPS it seems to be high enough to not stutter or lag - I've had games running on less FPS and never had any frame skip problems I tried: Editing the ini file (I disabled music, lowered the sound, increased cell buffering since I have 4GB RAM) Using streamline (from the lowest to the highest variation) Oblivion Stutter Remover - It reduces a little of stutter but not much. Using optimized view distance mod - This is not helpful since I have few stuttering on the outside Low footsteps mod - It helps a little but again not much. On the inside the game runs just fine, as well as inside caves and forts, even when fighting a lot of enemies I know my graphics card is not supported, but I'd really appreciate any tip. Morrowind, curiously, runs even worse than Oblivion, but that is something I'll discuss on another thread. Thanks in advance for any advice and having the time and patience to read my little issue. Can someone tell me how do I post a video of my problem? I recorded it but I have no way of posting a URL - I don't have a facebook, twitter or instagram (Nor am I interested), I don't have a youtube account and I certainly won't create a Vimeo account just for it. Any tips?
