  1. The past day I've been having a weird problem with Mator Smash/Merge Plugins Standalone. Essentially certain records are being mis-read/mis-written (i.e. armor keywords being replaced with workshop references, or just random references). I've been using these applications for Fallout 4 mods. Is there anything that runs in background that can interfere with xEdit scripts? Was wondering if this a new problem or unique to me?
  2. Having seen things like the Cannibal Overhaul and the various youtube videos discussing the usefulness of the vanilla perks I have decided to enter the modding scene with the goal of improving the whole perk system. Because honestly things like V.A.N.S. are complete garbage. Now I am a complete noob when it comes to modding and anything other than getting print "Hello World" to function but hopefully with the mentor-ship of the community I can make a start on "fixing" some of the more "vanilla" vanilla perks. My current methodology is to take a perk that is lacking in scope and power and apply a rule of three to it. Make it fun, make it useful and give it (multiples of?) three ranks. Example 1: V.A.N.S replacement Replace with a new perk called Tour guide or Sightseeing or something. Rank1: Green arrow vanilla thing plus an exp bonus for discovering locations. Rank2: Further bonus exp for discovering a location with a companion. Rank3: Massive bonus exp for discovery and reveal all locations on the map, like the Explorer perk from previous Fallout games. Reasoning: That 1 INT perks needs to do something useful for INT's main goal which is exp gain. Can maintain the old perk picture even, and gives the player another option for low INT exp gain besides Idiot Savant perk. Example 2: Ghoulish replacement/improvement Maybe rename it Rads-posure or Radical Exposure. Rank1: Perk gives hit points proportional to Rad value, mitigating disadvantage but still allowing for rad gain. Rank2: Bonuses like from Hancock's perk for various Rad thresholds (e.g. that haphazard feral ghoul pacification from the vanilla although more effective at higher rads), so now riding the line on radiation induced death can be fun and advantageous. Rank3: When the character hits max rads (or 999 rads) explode with energy, force and radiation and resetting rads to zero. Now you get to be a walking nuke! Reasoning: It's a high attribute perk that currently doesn't work as intended and even then is rather dull and weak. Explosion + Rad immunity (although friendly fire is a fun disadvantage) at max rank is cools. Example 3: Commando improvement Doesn't need a new name but definitely needs to pay homage to a forenamed action hero. Rank1: Tag the skill! Give lvl based bonus to dmg and V.A.T.S. accuracy to replicate the old skill point system. Rank2: Unlimited ammo clip. Like that legendary but for all automatic weapons. They rarely ever reload the gun in the movies. Rank3: Enemies don't attack you while you're firing at full auto. Suppressing fire is now a thing, and it's more like that scene where generic soldiers are just constantly running out of cover to get machine gunned down. Reasoning: GET TO THE CHOPPA! Other Mod Ideas Outlines: -Turn the crafting mods into single perk lvl based unlocks with further ranks either unlocking the crafting lvls sooner in lvl or giving other misc bonuses. -Tag! the weapon skills. As shown in the above Commando perk redesign, turn the vanilla weapon perks into something which replicates the skill point system used the older games. This may be unnecessary as the weapon perks can just as simply be extended into 6 rank sets with the number buffs at every odd numbered rank and the more colourful effects at every even numbered rank. - Add/change perks that play around with the V.A.T.S. slowdown effect (maybe add the freeze frame effect of the old games back in) Further changes to the mods are planned but neat ideas need to be thought up and given gameplay based effects, as I mentioned earlier i know next to nothing about creating mods and would appreciate any help figuring out how to make these mods in the first place (like how do I even add more ranks to a perk?) and generating these effects to help bring my vision to life would be well appreciated. Although if you just want to do all the hard coding for me and I just think of the design ideas that could be fine too. Cheers for reading and happy Wastelanding.
