  1. On occasion during a play run my screen will freeze for 20-25 seconds and if I let it ride out it eventually leads to the screenshot below where my pipboy display is miniaturized sitting at the center of my display. Only way to get out of it is a restart as my mouse pointer and the whole ui is locked up, nothing else functions, ctr+alt+delete don't work. At first I thought it may be the readius mod causing this but after going back to the default pipboy it happened again. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

  2. Just turned level 30 on my highest level character and am quickly noticing all my skills are at or close to 100 so he is quickly becoming a Jack of all Trades Master. This is with Hardcore mode turned on and using mods like Project Nevada.

Any recommended mods that nerf the skill points a tad for high level balance sake?

  3. it seems like there haven't been hardly any activity. Or at least, judging by endorsements. I just got back from Skyrim. Decided to dust off my trusty hunting rifle and blow some brains out. Then suddenly, it's like everyone packed up and left. What happened? Everyone go to Skyrim?

Depends what you looking for. I am still finding amazing mods being released. Recent one I just love is the "usable toilets" http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/46043

Again, if developers really want to dumb the game down and take shortcuts they could just make their game text only as it will save them millions of dollars and development costs and time.

Well, Mr Development Expert - if you say so.

And as for the Morrowind fanboy - I suggest you actually read what people are posting.

I did read it. It's obvious you a Morrowind Fanboy, it's all good man

  5.

If this were true I wager the gaming industry would save millions of dollars and just do away with hiring voice actors. Text read only games are far cheaper and easier to produce.

The whole thing has to be candy coated after all - even more so for the lowest common denominator, who usally looks at the shiny surface. They do away with development time and effort, which by the way, costs a whole lot more than voice acting. Scripted events without any real choices are much easier on the budget than a forking storyline with consequences and different outcomes.

LOL now you just blowing smoke and sound like a bitter Morrowind Fanboy. Voice acting in itself takes a ton of development time. Developers have to go through all the tryouts, make contact with the actors some of whom are overseas, arrange to fly them in, get hotels set up for them and schedule recording time. This of couse does not include the thousands and thousands of pages of dialog they have to go through to ensure they know what voice actor is going to play what role.

  7. or so many people claim.

Just what game am I missing then? Please do not mention another TES game. I have played them and Skyrim is better by any modern standard. I am actually just starting a game of Daggerfall on Dos-box but I am talking about a modern game here.

My all time favorites are Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment but they are way to dated to consider at this point. I am talking about a game released in the last 2 or 3 years that even comes close to Skyrim. PC only please. I do not own a console.

    What am I missing?

Dead on. I actually took 3 hours to download Morrowind + all expansions FREE online, also setup the graphics mod etc. I fired the game up and was in shock. What a garbage game! And the nostalgic folk actually doing Skyrim a disservice by comparing it to Morrowind? hahhahaha

At least Baldurs Gate 2 has great gameplay still even on modern machines. Morrowin UI, combat and gameplay is sheer utter garbage.

  8. Vanilla Skyrim > Vanilla Oblivion

Modded (5+ years of mods) Oblivion > Vanilla Skyrim

Modded (5+ years of mods) Oblivion > Non CK modded Skyrim

5 years from now, Skyrim modded will blow Oblivion out the water..

  9. What was the point of rewriting the intro? We all saw it...

In answer to your question, personally, i just really like reading, and writing. I believe that the Elder Scrolls Series would make excellent books, as the world that they take place in is rich with.. just about everything. I chose to stay completely true to the game because... well, i find it hard to create brand-new ideas, after all, I'm only 15 haha.

Very well done at 15, your parents and teachers should be proud!

  10. This is pretty much my issue as well. Morrowind had an amazing flow, questing, storyline, and general gameplay as well as insane replayability. Yes, the graphics were pretty bad. Yes, the combat was almost laughable with the weird stiff jumping and chop chop melee. NPC movement and reaction was kind of weird.

There were a ton of different armor slots though so you could mix/match endlessly. The leveling and skill system allowed for a ton of different combinations and characters actually felt different because of it. My alchemist mage I spent 100's of hours on could simply not pick up a huge warhammer and do anything with it. She'd be swinging forever to even land a hit. This makes sense. She's a mage. To top it off, you could create your own spells and enchantments to feel even more personalized. In Skyrim, near as I can tell so far (haven't done a mage yet) for damage you have the choice of fire, ice, or lightning - that' it - 3 spells the whole game and they never actually improve so once you fill in perks that's it.

I actually took the plunge earlier in the week and added Morroblivion to Oblivion. I did this for two reasons: 1. Curiosity. I had always been curious about it, but I wasn't aware until recently that you could now get it in its complete form, as the last I had heard, Bethesda had put the clamps on the modders that were working on it, so naturally, I had to try it.

The second (and bigger) reason was I wanted to see if maybe my mind was just playing tricks on me. I thought, "Maybe I'm being too hard on Skyrim. Let's see how Morrowind does with an updated engine." Morroblivion is essentially a re-make of Morrowind (and its expansions) with newer tech added onto Cyrodiil, so I figured I'd put it to the litmus test.

And the result is: I'm having a blast with it, and Skyrim is already all but forgotten to me. Morroblivion is bamf. It confirmed what I suspected. It's not just mere nostalgia or rose-colored glasses. Morrowind is a great game made even better by Oblivion's more advanced engine. Almost all of the original quests, npcs, armor, etc are there, and I can't get enough. Much as I wanted to, I just never had that sort of awe factor with Skyrim.

P.S. - Being able to traverse freely between Cyrodiil, Elsweyr (with that mod), and Morrowind is f***ing sweet. Skyrim who?

LMFAO, so basically you saying you need a heavily modded out game to enjoy <insert game here> to its fullest over a vanilla released version.

    Your point again was what?

  11. Just smith what you find and dig up, not vendor bought when working the skill. Reason smithy is so easy is cheap resources can be had by the two npcs at whiteun, Iron and leather. You don't even have to step out of town....just buy out the vendors grind out iron daggers, rest 24 hours and repeat......
  12. Thera will be no overhaul mods until the CK comes out. And even then Overhaul mods takes lots of time to do. Majority of mods now are texture mods and small tweaks like Horse running, Ore veins easier to spot in the dark etc so it's not gonna imbalance your first playthru by using any of these.
  13. All my characters feel like a jack of trades and I don't feel I ever really emphasise with my character. but the problem is my Mage can quite easily start to get good with a sword, or be proficient at wearing armor.

What are you a Troll? Read what you typed here, lol

TES series has always been a jack of a all trades game. If you don't want it to be that way and want to play a pure mage, start off by not wearing armor or yielding a sword, hard concept huh?

I realize Skyrim is not for everyone but some of the arguments and examples given are grade school material

My point was in Morrowind and Oblivion it was far harder to switch from your current character class into those kind of new skills and professions. I would personally prefer more restrictions. That is my opinion I don't have a problem with it if you don't feel the same.

However I certainly don't appreciate being called a troll simply because you either don't like the discussion or feel it is infantile and beneath you in some way quite a few people have expressed similar views to mine but I do consider everything people have said and many of the reasons I don't neccessarily share have been equally valid and thought provoking.

I'd appreciate it if you don't like something to simply state that you don't agree and why because that would have been a far more sensible and tactful response to the one you adopted. Hard concept huh?

All I know is your quote below is pretty priceless.. Yes you are a Troll, no doubt about it....

All my characters feel like a jack of trades and I don't feel I ever really emphasise with my character. but the problem is my Mage can quite easily start to get good with a sword, or be proficient at wearing armor.

  15. Moredhel: Is it Morrowind or is it just a tendancy to see past happy memories through rose tinted spectacles?

Funny you mention that, I heard that quite a lot :D No, I really REALLY like Morrowind, it's the best game I've ever played! When I get tired of Skyrim or any other game that's gonna come out soon (SWTOR, ME3) I'll pick it up again and start all over using no mods at all.

Ahhhh, getting Fargoth's ring, getting killed by a cliffracer on my way to Balmora, being Lord Indoril Nerevar again :D

Fargoth my you bring back the memories he was such a loon, that crazy wood elf Glarthir in Oblivion's Skingrad reminded me of him, that was a great quest. For me it was Baldur's Gate 2 that I have true RPG nostalgia for, loved that game still do, still play it to this day.

Baldur's gate 2 was pretty awesome.

Frankly I never understood the love for Morrowind or Oblivion. Highest level I got to Morrowind was level 12 before it bored me to tears. Oblivion I got up to level 15ish, even bought Shivering isle expansion but never even went there, haha.
