My friend has had no problems downloading the same mods that I want with NMM

I just downloaded the NMM, the most recent one, and as first I was able to download mods to the NMM. But now with any mod that I'd like, I only have the option to manually download. There is no option to download to NMM. I have looked around if there have been similar issues and so far what I've tried is: Reinstalling, Switching internet browsers from chrome to firefox, Fiddling with options on the NMM settings nothing seems to work. Any advice on what else I can try would be greatly appreciated!
