  1. After your first encounter with them, they just go somewhere and stand around looking sad. Maybe one could make them happy again by offering more Honningbrew or maybe the encounter could just recycle after a certain amount of time. Anything would be better than just seeing them moping around 24/7 in wherever they've decided to land.
  2. Nothing hard about endorsing those mods you appreciate. They're all there on the "Mods" tab in NMM and one click on the Latest Version link brings you right to where you need to be. About once I week I make sure that my endorsements are up to date.
  3. Mods are installed in a "Data" directory under the directory in which Skyrim is installed. This is probably C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim but it could have been changed when you installed the game (mine is C:\Games\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim). NMM needs to know this path. In NMM, click on the "gears" icon to open the settings. On the "Skyrim" tab, check the value of "Skyrim Directory" vs. reality.

    Secondly, Skyrim knows what mods to load by looking at the file C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\Skyrim\plugins.txt. Check to make sure that this file isn't set to read only! If NMM can't change this file, it can't tell Skyrim about the mod and, when you come back to NMM, NMM will not think that the mod is activated.

  4. I use the Educated Horses mod but, every now and then Frost will not come back regardless of how many time I call. In those cases I have a bat file, named findfrost.txt, that I use. One line: player.moveto 97e1f. He's usually just spooked by a sabre cat or something.
  5. I did some FONV modding so I'm not a total noob with the CK (but I'm close). I'm not sure what's going on here. I'm trying to make a mod for just personal use. The plan is to take some armor/apparel from another mod which is only available via console commands, add a leveled list and let Radiant Raiments sell it. After that I wanted to copy some of the pieces and add enchantments (they aren't enchantable by default). So:

    1. Open the CK
    2. Double click the mod that I want to enhance
    3. Double click my ESP file (already created)
    4. Set my ESP the active file
    5. Create a list, add the items and add the list to Radiant Raiments
    6. Save

    And nothing works in-game and when I go back into the CK my List is empty. I've checked that the ESP file isn't set read-only and verified the timestamp after saving. A similar thing happens when I duplicate one of the items from the other mod and give the copy an enchantment. The copy and the enchantment works but it totally loses the model. Everything looks good until I save, quit the CK and restart and everything is gone again. Is there some restriction on referencing things from other ESPs?

  6. In normal gameplay, the keyboard works as expected but, when I toggle the freeflying cam with 'tfc', even the slightest touch of W, A, S or D sends the camera flying about a meter or more in the indicated direction. Makes it very difficult to accurately position the camera for a screen shot. Is there a setting somewhere that would slow this down?
  7. F12 takes a "Steam Screenshot". I don't know what that is since I never play with Steam in online mode. The wiki says that F12 "Takes a screenshot that is saved to the Steam screenshots folder. Hotkey can only be configured through Steam settings." I just use the Prt Sc key which saves a BMP file in the ...\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim folder. At 1600x900, my sceenshots are 4.1M, but like everone else has said, a quick trip through Paint (or IrfanView or GIMP ...) to convert to JPG and you should be able to get it down to size.
  8. Your saved games are, by default in the directory C:\Users\Nate\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves. That's the directory to back up. The save files remember what mods you have loaded and you will be warned if one or more is missing when you load an old save.

    You can change the location of your save files by editing skyrim.ini. You can edit (or add, if they aren't there) these lines:

    [General]

    sLocalSavePath=<whatever path you want relative to C:\Users\Nate\Documents\My Games\Skyrim>

    So when I start a new character, I create a new directory like C:\Users\<MyName>\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\MySaves\CharacterName. I've got a save file in the "regular" save directory that I made just before the character creation and execution scene that I copy into the new directory. I then edit skyrim.ini to point to the new directory:

    [General]

    sLocalSavePath=MySaves\CharacterName\

    (note the final backslash!) start Skyrim and load the saved game.

    There are utilities that can do all this for you. This one comes to mind. I used a version of that one with the Fallout games and it worked well but, if you do an advanced search of the Nexus for mods with the word "manager" you'll find pages of mods to choose from. I've just gotten used to the control of doing "by hand".

  9. I always make my characters pretty similar to myself in real life

    I was just thinking about people who say this earlier today. I don't see any reason whatsoever why I would want to play myself in a fantasy role playing game. I, personally, would never go into a cave that I knew was full of murderous bandits or wild bears or walking undead! I, personally would never raise a weapon against another person. I don't like going out in the rain or riding horses (much less riding a horse in the rain)!

    Much like Rabbit, my characters are decidedly not me. I never refer to them in the first person. They are "he" and "she" -- and the shes greatly outnumber the hes mainly because they are more fun to watch in action (there, I got back on topic).

  10. He started asking me if I ever got the the Cloud District just as I was entering Breezehome so he ended up inside the house with me. One dagger slash was all it took. No witnesses, no bounty but now I've got his carcase laying on the bed that Lydia doesn't use.
  11. I'm glad I did a search for this before posting a new topic. I recently started a non-magic-crafting character as well and and had similar thoughts. The one thing I would add is that, in addition to the service being expensive, you would also need to supply the item and soul gem -- or at least purchase them separately before hand.
  12. If your character is a Werewolf you no longer receive that bonus.

    I should have mentioned that she's not a werewolf (ironically enough, her name is Ilsa Wulf-Dotter but I doubt that that's the cause).

  13. I started noticing that I wasn't getting my Well Rested bonuses any more -- I tried the beds in all of my owned houses to verify. So I started removing mods to see if I could identify the culprit. After that started getting tedious while yielding no results I decided to try a different character save. I loaded the save with all the same mods active, went to sleep and, lo and behold, this character became well rested. So, either my main character has been doing too much skooma or there's something wrong with that save file. I'm okay with giving myself the bonus via console when it's deserved (player.addspell fb984 works just great and times out appropriately) but I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered this and possibly found a way to fix it.
  14. "Skyrim - Interface.bsa" does not have a favoritesmenu.cfg either. It does have a favoritesmenu.swf though. Loss of the swf file would cause the menu to not show up but it would have to be deliberately removed from the bsa file.
  15. The word 'bastard' is actually used quite a lot, especially by bandits.

    That's technically just a statement about someone's parentage and not a curse. A curse is a request for the recipient's future.

  16. Wrye Smash is reporting a corrupted Update.esm:

    Unexpected subrecord: TES4.ONAM
    Error loading TES4 record and/or subrecord: 00000000
     eid = <<NO EID>>
     subrecord = ONAM
     subrecord size = 44
    Update.esm: Unexpected subrecord: TES4.ONAM
    Error loading TES4 record and/or subrecord: 00000000
     eid = <<NO EID>>
     subrecord = ONAM
     subrecord size = 44

    TES4?

    It doesn't appear to be causing problems but I would like to clean it up.
